Someone's swimmin' in the River DeNial.

It could be a possibility, depending on if they limit romances by non-gender things.

Like if Iron Bull is only romancable by Qunari, and it's a bit of a "friends with benefits" type thing that is the same as a strong friendship path, with a a couple extra dialog options and a sex scene.

In other news, what they did with Jacob in ME3 was seriously the biggest load of crap. I think part of why it made me so angry was because I know, deep down, they never even thought about doing that to a straight male Shepard.

I wound up playing a lot more ManShep + Kaidan playthroughs than I expected as a result, weirdly enough. The Jacob thing and the Thane thing (that one didn't bug me as much, obvs) plus Kaidan insisting I cheated on him (I SURE FELT BROKEN UP AFTER HORIZON, DUDE) just made my various femsheps way less fun.

Has to be a personal thing?  Horizon didn't bother me at all.  I agreed with him.  And I loved the e-mail he sent.  Actually have the reading Raphael Sbarge did on my itunes. That would have been a lot nicer than the e-mail, but I kept it in my inbox and Shepard would read it once in awhile.  However, I would have liked some other options when they met on Horizon.  But any of my fem Shepards who romanced him in ME1, stayed romanced.

Totally agree with  you about Jacob.  Thane didn't bother me, I actually liked it, though not shooting right away made me want to hit someone.

ME3 was a mess. Everyone lost there. Some more than others, yes, but I'd rather nothing about the experience gets repeated.

I have never played a female Shepard, so I have no idea about how his romance goes. I was talking about the character in general, and why would so many people hate him. I didn't find him to be a mind-blowing character or anything, but I liked him.

All the complaints I heard about was the romance. I didn't know they hated him in general.

She's probably sun dazed from staring at a certain blond with her Byakugan... ;)

Again, I said that's what I'm hoping for, not what I'm expecting.

It's usually just the romance. I didn't see many people who thought his character was hate-able. Just boring.

Though a friend of mine called him the Sebastian of Mass Effect. Not sure I agree.

I hate to keep making it a "who got screwed over worse" competition out of the "obviously got screwed over" pile, but it's just a little frustrating to hear stuff like this. Both gays and lesbians still only got one companion LI with decent content. Our "new" options in the NPCs weren't exactly mind blowing. I still would have taken the two companion LI + Thane deal that straight females got over the one possible companion, that straight women get anyway, plus one low content NPC. It's not like they lavished us with options. We just got one companion LI and one NPC, finally, on the third game.

at least gay/lesbian people didin't had to feel insulted. one thing is be ignored by previous installament (I want to be clear: I'm happy for the new exclusively gay/lesbian LI, I will probably never try Cortez or Traynor's romances, but I'm happy they are there. I'm not ok about being left out), another is being insulted (and expecially in Citadel DLC with Vega and Javik that's the feeling).

the message in ME3 is quite horrible for a straight female. is like the game is tryng to made it clear: "no one want female Shepard". between Joker who prefer the sexdoll, Vega who need to be drunk for just one night stand, Jacob who don't think twice cheating Shep, Thane who dies...argh!!!

is not even a problem of "how many LI have a straigh female" but "how much the writers hate straight female Shepard?"

For those who didn't romance him, I've heard he is more liked than disliked.

Yes.

I'm not saying everyone liked him. I'm saying that in the group of people who did not romance him, more people like Jacob than don't like Jacob.

I liked Jacob but did not romance him.

I'm hoping for 8 LIs, 6 companions and 2 NPCs, myself.

I hope for the same, though I'm fine with only 1 NPC (Cullen).  I don't really care if there's a female counterpart.

I basically want 3 female/3 male companion LIs.

the thing with Jacob, it's that many many people don't find him interesting at all. Basically, You can't hate him, you can't like him, you don't feel anything. he's just... Jacob. Bland and all.

And his romance content is horrible. I tried with femshep, and I totally understand why he's unpopular with the female fanbase. It's less about his personality, than the way it worked and how femshep behave without your agreement.

Except they said multiple times that they would only stop having All Bi if everything was mostly equal. And I can tell you, no lesbian will feel represented by one gay guy, and no gay guy will feel represented with one lesbian. Its why on here I say lesbian and gay because we are no where near the same group, but sometimes when they want a gay option, like Liara and Chambers, than the gay element is completed, even though gay guys are not represented at all.

That's not exactly what Gaider said and that was his take on it, not Bioware either.

Also, like I said, we have only 3 female party members because apparently the game is full of important female characters. so the gender is well represented. I wouldn't put it pass them to do the exact same thing for sexual preferences (actually I would have expected them to do that to sexual preferences well before doing it for party members gender distribution).

That's curious. I got a much better bro vibe from him than I ever did from Garrus or Varric. I guess that's why I am surprised so many people didn't seem to like him.

If they want fairness, there will most likely be a female NPC counterpart.

Basically the companions will each have a member of a set orientation(straight, bi, gay) with the NPCs being bi for more and equal options. That gives straight players 3 options, gay players 3 options, and bi players 6 options.

I don't think people can complain about lack of options if they do this.

So are we getting six LIS, 4 companions, and 2 npcs? Or is it 2 npcs and 2 companions?

We don't know.

We know that Cassandra (companion) and Cullen (likely non-companion) are romancable, and that when it comes to sexual orientation straight and gay PCs will have options.

Actually, that's not how I read it. What he said is that the character concepts they came up and decided to go with this time around happened to be mostly male, and that he didn't see what the concern over female representation was about since there were plenty of important female NPCs.

From a purely selfish standpoint, I prefer the bigger numbers (as I am one of those people perfectly happy to play either gender, and the only type of romance I never do is fem/fem, so I'd be +1 from DA2!).

You can have bigger numbers and still be fair with 6 bi.  ;)

As for Jacob, they did make new content for him and his infidelity issue.  That very same time/money/voice acting/animation could have instead gone to continuing the FemShep romance from ME2.  I do not believe "resources" in any way affected that decision.  Which is why I find it more suspect and disturbing, especially when coupled with the fact that they designed another romance option with little content to be cut off negatively (Thane is murdered, has nothing to do with his illness).

Would it have been better for Thane to have died from the illness rather than murdered?  They probably wanted to have him go out with a bang rather than in a bed.  Plus, I don't know how much it affects, but his lead writer from the previous games also wasn't around anymore.  Same with Ashley and Legion to an extent.  Don't remember what else he worked on.

Judging by all the "Find a Cure" threads there were for Thane between Me2 and ME3, I don't think it'd have made a difference.

Jacob's "bro" arc is him being standoffish and making me feel unwelcome for most of the game, and then at the very end there's a chest bump and a Citadel drinks promise OF LIES.

sexual attraction to someone that looked like Garrus, for example, but we're getting into pretty strange territory and I'm not sure we can expect the average person to "get over" mandibles for his great personality

Uh-oh, now I'm kinda feeling like a pervert. *goes for the mandibles!*

No really, is it strange to be attracted to alien races? Hmmm....
