I think that's what happened.  They never said anything.  There was like a screenshot of F!Hawke/Merrill leaked.

I remember well the day we all danced around the forum yelling "AUFGESTOCKT!!!!" when we found it was real. (The leak was from a German magazine.)

The talk earlier about there being an LI who was struggling with their sexuality could be him? I mean, he left the Qun a while ago so maybe not, but that would also be a decent way to have a character struggle with their sexuality without making it too analogous to the real world. I mean, really, coming from the Qun, any sexuality would be something new-not that they didn't have sexuality but it doesn't seem Qunari were encouraged to express romantic love with anyone. Thats still not an LI storyline I want to see personally, but it could fit, and putting it in the context of the Qun would probably make it the most interesting(to me, not necessarily for everyone, obviously).

It seems odd that a character would embrace all of the boozing, selling your sword, and other silliness that the Qun forbids w9ould then all of a sudden be nervous about the sex part.

But one is more personal than the others, and it is also mentioned somewhere that he wants to turn his back forever but has a hard time letting go

Its not going to be Iron Bull. It will be mustache guy because if he is Tevinter...same sex relationships are frowned upon by the nobility.

He's definitely the more obvious choice. I just like the idea of it being the Iron Bull because he would be struggling with sexuality period, as opposed to same-sex attraction. It would be a nice change/twist imo.

Both Dorian and IB have turned their backs on the society they came from apparently. Dorian as a activist? I guess? We don't know much about how he opposes Tevinter, if that is indeed his character. And IB became a merc, which is about as lawless and in opposition to the Qun as one gets. Both are already in opposition to the culture that disapproves of whatever their sexuality is/could be, but could still be struggling.

Not in such a way that he would be struggling with his sexuality, I wouldn't think, considering that he's exiled. If he was raised to believe same sex relationships were ok as long as they didn't interfere with heir-making (which seems to be the case in Tevinter), I don't know why he'd even care once he's walked away or been removed from that life.

I like the theory that it will be Cullen struggling, if there has to be an LI who is ( would rather not, though). As far as we know, Cullen has been avowedly celibate for most of his adult life and given his faith and what he's been through, I think it makes sense that he might have some difficulty transitioning from celibacy to being in a sexual relationship.

Couldn't that apply to Cassandra as well? I don't recall any mention of a past sexual relationship for her, though I could be missing something.

The only 'love interest' she's had so far is Regalyn from Dawn of the Seeker, and the furthest that got was a chaste kiss on the cheek from her.

That would be interesting. Although we are not sure they are going to go with that idea.

Can you imagine if they released who was romanceable but NOT the gender available? The amount of speculation would be ridiculous.

Actually, I think it would decrease. Everyone is already speculating everyone in the last shot of the trailer, so having those who are confirmed would stop the wild spitballing.

I absolutely love posting at 4am because you get cool conversations over multiple posts with the same people, its relaxed and a lot of fun :)

I feel there is speculating at this time but it is more wistful or calculating, with just the people announced it will be hardcore and taken more serious because as many speculations now there are always the reminders that we know next to nothing other than Cassandra and Cullen is romanceable, and cole and leliana are not. Out f 12 that isnt much to go on. Everyone can hope or worry about anything.

I enjoy the possibility of it like Roulette. I feel I could be happy with any of the options though I am really hoping for Cassandra.

We can't say this with absolute certainty.  Iron Bull is still very much a possibility.  In fact, at this point, one can even argue that Iron Bull has a greater chance of fitting the bill, since we literally know nothing about mustache man.

I thought the "struggling with sexuality" story was one they wanted to do but couldn't for this game and had to put on the backburner?

I know it's been PAGES, but ...

Obviously I'm viewing it through a straight woman lens, but I found the ManShep/Kaidan romance superior to the FemShep/Kaidan one, in part because you couldn't romance him until ME3. My "canon" ManShep started out romancing Ashley, but he shed a manly tear as he rescued Kaidan instead, and he had no good answer when Kaidan angsted about why. By the time I got to the end of ME1, I remember thinking, "You know, it's dumb I can't get together with Kaidan. It just works, somehow." Their fight on Horizon seemed just as charged as my romanced-Kaidan FemShep's fight, which reinforced my "Seriously, they'd be adorable!" leanings.

And then in ME3, they finally realize they've cared about each other that way all along, which is a trope I can be a sucker for if it's done right, and I think ME3 did pretty okay with it. They just sort of slot in together, in a way that makes you think, "D'awwww." It was probably the most organic-feeling m/m romance I've done in a Bioware game (although I heart Zevran forever and ever and ever, the whole he-tried-to-kill-me thing puts a teeny damper on the "does this make a lick of sense" front.). No dead spouse, no weird baggage, no attempted murder, no zealotry, just a bit of an entirely-justified trust issue that gets resolved before it gets annoying.

There was also no whining I cheated on him. That was a big plus. :P

On the WHOLE, I like DA's romances better. But I really have a soft spot for Kaidan/ManShep! <3

Hi, um... All of this. ALL. This is EXACTLY how I feel about male Shep/Kaidan. My (unrealistic) hope is that Inquisition manages to pull something off as sweet as that pairing. I know they've only got one game to work with instead of three, but man, I hope they try. Male Shep and Kaidan are probably the biggest reason that the ME franchise stands out like a beacon for me amongst all the other games, with the exception of Dragon Age.

Huh, really?? Well that's a shame, if it's true. I think a "struggling with sexuality" story would be really great. Not sure how well it would fit into the world of Thedas - where we've never, ever seen anyone persecuted for their sexuality in the first place. But still, I would highly enjoy something like that.

That's what I was told earlier(well over a hundred pages ago, I believe) in this thread, at any rate.

Hmmm, well Qunari are punished for having any sexuality other than babies. Elves can have isue being in a hetero pairing due to human babies and pressure from clan. Kings and Queens need heirs. Dwarves are very much worried about dying out and thus noble hunters. Mages are discouraged from dalliances due to losing their children and it being discouraged. The chantry likes vows of chastity.

Perhaps such a storyline can find a place somewhere along these lines?

I still haven't seen any source for it personally. Someone told me it wasn't even said by a dev a while back too.

Me too.  This is my favorite m/m romance of them all.  I think it's awful that I didn't have a romance in that series for the first two games, but the Kaidan romance almost makes it worth it.

Yeah, I understand the arguments for both Dorian and Iron Bull as the "struggling with sexuality" guys.  But in my gut, I think it's going to be Cullen.  I think he could be struggling with his sexuality regardless of  your gender too.  With a female Inquisitor, he's struggling with breaking his vows and his trust issues now that he's entering in what could effectively be his first sexual relationship.  With a male Inquisitor, it's those same things with the added, "I've never really thought about my attraction to men before...." angle.  I could be way off base, but I could see this as a way to "justify" Cullen being bisexual (given all the people who are going to complain about him being "changed").

Yeah, if a character needs to struggles with their sexuality I really hope it isn't in a way where the character is in particular struggling with how they relate to characters of the same sex. I can't think of a way that this would be done well.

I wouldn't mind a character's sexuality in some way effecting their past (i.e. Dorian facing conflict in Tevinter because of his decision not to procreate due to his sexuality, or Sera/Solas leaving the Dalish/Alienage due to similar reproductive/marital pressure). But even if this happened I hope it's not a source of conflict for the character in the present days.

Moving away from selection and choices for a bit:
Anyone else worried that the flirt line wont sound like something your PC would say?

I mean I loved that DA2 had the romance lines change at times for the personality Hawke had.

I just worry that sometimes the only way to start a romance is to say something out of character for the Inquisitor.

Or even worse, having to take it because that is your only chance to start a romance.

To early to tell but I do wonder how the romances will start this time.

As long as I don't get garbage like Shep's "You want this" during Miranda's romance (I swear I'd punched him through my monitor if it was possible. So smarmy sounding). I'm fine.
