Yes, because of beauty standards put on women in our media. Men can look like Zaeed and Beardy Warden, have body shapes from Zevran to Iron Bull, but ladies are a much more narrow diversity when it comes to aesthetics.
You know, in all honesty, I'll be happy with whoever I can end up. Wasn't even remotely interested in Zevran or Fenris, and I still had one hell of an adventure with them. So, in that regard, it's all good, no matter what happens.
I think it's important to keep an open mind. Excitement and enthusiasm for a particular choice that may be the case but ultimately isn't can, in my opinion, sour one's gaming experience. From what I understand it was a non-trivial thing for DA2 actually.

I think Cullen is by far the most attractive of the DA:I characters revealed. He's in a league of his own (at least based on my own standards of beauty). I didn't think there was a gap in DA2, though I did think there was one in DA:O.
Well, it's totally a personal perspective thing. Cullen isn't even the most attractive male, to me. I do think he easily fills the traditionally attractive role. I think Cullen, Dorian and Cole are all traditionally attractive based purely on appearance. All of the women we've seen (Cassandra, Vivienne, Sera, Leliana, Morrigan) are traditionally attractive, imo, where as the males also have Solas, Iron Bull, Varric and the warden. Maybe Solas could still be considered traditionally attractive. Maaaybe.
But this is how it usually goes. Tali is the only really unconventional looking female in ME, imo. If you're going to get a frog or bug person, it's going to be a dude. That's where they always get "unconventional" with their designs.

People say this a lot, but an "open mind" isn't going to make someone attractive to me if they're not otherwise. It's not that I just get so interested in one character that I sour others. It's that they just never appealed to me aesthetically and a good personality would only ever make me want to be their friend.

Really? I'm actually really surprised at how almost all of the guys look this time around. I agree that Vivienne and Scribe Girl are very attractive (Vivienne in particular 
), but Cassandra and Sera are just meh to me.
On the other hand, DHMG ( ), Cullen ( ), Bearded Warden (), Iron Bull (), and Varric are all really good looking guys in their own ways. Solas is the only one who's kind of meh to me at this point. I'm really happy with the guys this time around.

Edit: I wanted to add that I do love all the female designs so far, and Sera's growing on me! Vivienne just looks so fabulous (like Lupita Nyong'o) and I've always been in love with Cass's character.

Well, anyone can be attractive on an individual basis. I'm more talking about beauty standards as they're traditionally accepted. Pretty much any of these women, if they were real, could be the LI in a big budget summer blockbuster. They're all traditionally attractive women. Some of the men, like warden, Iron Bull and Varric, are very unconventional as far as beauty standards go. You probably wouldn't see them as the star of one of those movies. They're just less likely to reach out of conventionally accepted beauty standards when making female concepts. That becomes really obvious when you fold in ME characters.

And more than that, his witty humor is enough to have him in a lead role, like a John Mcclain.
All I want is for once, just once to be able to romance the tough burly macho man and not the slender/emo/submissive/soft spoken guy. Though all the characters tend to be well written and I do like them all, for a change I want to be able to romance Sten instead of Alistair, Canderous instead of Carth, Zaeed instead of Kaidan, Sagacious Zu instead of Sky, etc...

I don't think Cassandra is quote as "traditionally" attractive as. say. Viviene (who's a bit of an outlier herself by having a buzzcut, at least according to her concept art). Cass's features are traditionally attractive, but Bioware bucks the trend in a few ways - the scar, her short hair, even her more weathered face vs. the smoother and more flawless skin that Vivene has (at least from what we can see).
Dorian is just ruined forever because of his facial hair for me, so I can't comment on that. My only reaction to him is an overwhelming urge to hold him down and shave his face.
Edit: I realized I forgot to add: I agree with you overall, and I'm not saying that Cass isn't traditionally attractive. I just think she's far more off to the periphery than a leading woman would normally be - just contrasting her with Morgan and Isabella, for example.
