6 LIs isn't confirmed. 2/2/2 isn't confirmed. They just said some characters would have set sexualities.

I wish they would stop being vague about it and just tell us if the distribution is going to be even, or what. This isn't a fun kind of tension, like guessing companions, or even guessing who the LIs will be generally. It's just depressing waiting to see if my demographic will get screwed over again, like in every other game where romances were gated by gender, including Bioware's. If it's 2/2/2, then fine, not my ideal, but at least it's fair by a numbers game. I wish they'd just say it.

Like, sorry if it comes across as rude or whatever, but it's pretty easy to see where it's not safe to expect the bright side here.

Yeah. If you're going to say that the system will be set sexualities, at least tell people who will be which. Better to get the frustration out now than have 5 months of worry then the frustration.

I would seriously even take some numbers with no faces with them. Just say 2/2/2, if that's what it is. It just seriously sucks getting vague news when you basically know if anyone gets shorted on the deal, it's invariably going to be you, because it's always you.

I agree, making guesses and speculation is the worst part, being vague about it can be cause for tense situations.

Guessing is fun, but not when we have the bare-bones minimum to go on.

Since Bioware seems to be on an info-releasing streak (OMG two days in a row! That hasn't happened in age!) maybe we'll get lucky and they'll throw us the LIs as well? Or even a hint about the romance system?

They've given the romance system: Set sexuality for the LIs.

But I see no reason to hold out the LI information now, considering in the trailer we see all 9 companions.

As long as I can romance Sera as my male Inquisitor then I am good with the romance options. Please, Maker, let it be so...

I don't even need them to tell me which characters are LIs, let alone what slots they fill. I just want to know what sort of demographics we're working with. I'll be fine going back to speculating if it turns out it's just 2/2/2. I just don't want to get my hopes up speculating there will even be gay LIs just to later find out there never were any and it's just bi/straight again, or something. Honestly, then I would just feel incredibly stupid for the optimism.

No worries.  And I suppose it does accomplish those things, but I think David has also made reference that in some capacity, (and you allude to this) with enough predictions/asks coming down the pipe it's almost inevitable that some of them will be correct, and there will be those that are happy/unhappy with the perception that what they were hoping for/worried about ended up coming true.

It could also be "The writers liked where Cullen ended up at the end of the second game, and think he'd be interesting to explore further with the third."  (Note: Not a writer.  I don't actually know their motivations for using him instead of creating someone else).

So Allan, are you at liberty to confirm that Cullen is not a companion that will follow the Inquisitor on his/her adventures, but an NPC that will remain at the home-base at all times?

But they totally could! It would be the tears of the 3/4ths of the fanbase who didn't get the LI they wanted! Fresh from the source, seasoned by the fading joy from recent revelations!

My prediction of an incredibly safe (yet seemingly progressive) distribution:

For Male Inquisitors: Cassandra and Dorian
For Female Inquisitors: Solas, Sera, and Cullen
For Both: Scribe Girl

This isn't what I want (I want all of Thedas to be bi, and for love interests to respond more to the player's actions/personality than their gender)(and I also don't like playing dudes and really want to romance Dorian), but for some reason I think they're going to overcorrect on the playersexual thing. Having a set up like this is inclusive, but it won't ping anyone's "unrealisticdar". It also avoids the whole "bisexual elves/rogues" trope and sidesteps any potential trips to the Anders Memorial "But He Was Straaaaaight" Wankzone with Cullen and, to a lesser extent, Cassandra.

Ow...My sunny optimism. This is depressing, and also very true, which makes it more depressing...

It's not going to be fair either way for anyone, I'm happy there's an equal split instead of something odd numbered, I really am, but going from all to a restricted amount sucks. Obviously I'm going to wish for it to be in favor of my preference? Do you want me to lie and pretend I wouldn't? It's just from a personal point. Obviously that isn't fair, it's never fair, someone will be always unhappy or left out or whatever else.

I can't blame you for wanting what you want, but I am always a little surprised when people would request for themselves to benefit at the expense of others.  I might sound naive, but if the DA: I team asked me tomorrow what I would want, I would never in a million years choose a system that gave anyone (even those who were historically privileged) less options.  I would go with the 2/2/2 split so everyone gets two options.  I would never say, "I really hope that it's just bisexual and gay options now!"  But maybe that's just me.

If they went back to the staight/bi method.. Ugh. So depressing. Just ugh. I don't even want to think about it. I just wont be able to get excited at all about the game if that's what they're doing. It's such a huge set back.

I share your concern, but I have to remain hopeful that the team, which has been much more progressive than almost any other dev team and which has really been great about visiting us here on the forums, will not take a step back and give some people choice and not others.  I have to think that they are going to give everyone at least two options, which is why I'm still thinking 2/2/2 is most likely, even if it is a BSN rumor mill creation.

A thread in Scuttlebutt where they announced that romances are going to be a variety of sexualities (so not all bisexual).  I linked it earlier, but it went downhill fast with trolls mocking people and making sketchy comments.  Traverse at your own peril.

Ugh I found it.

I knew it was coming and I'm still kind of bummed. Please please let the companion LIs be available to all. I really don't give a damn about NPC romances being restricted.

Nothing at all worth investigating.

Anyhow, I've been lax in my devotions to the great prophet of my religion: New England Patriotism (currently Tom Brady) but this will give me a great opportunity to rectify it.

Step one: create shrine, light incense, and pray to the great Tom Brady that Cassandra is romanceable by the Lady Inquisitor.

Step two: something exciting happens.

Step three: profit?

If it's 2/2/2, then I'll be satisfied. It's not even a problem for me. I'm just not going to expect it when literally no game, including Bioware games, has ever ended up "fair" to LGB players when relationships were gender exclusive. I'll believe it and be grateful when I hear it's true, but I'm not just going to expect something that has literally never happened before. I'm just not willing to take that leap of faith. It's better to be skeptical and not as disappointed if it doesn't come through, imo.

It's definitely still possible.  We don't know exactly how these restrictions are going to shake out.

To be honest, there was a comment recently by Gaider that said something like, "People will get disappointed if they can't romance a certain character with their character" and that kind of tipped me off that there were going to be restrictions of some kind.  The extent to which there will be restrictions, however, is still up in the air.

I know.  I'll keep positive and you keep skeptical and we'll keep each other in check.  I really want to think that this game will be the one where they do us right.

Listen, of course I want everyone to be happy and included, but in my own little world it's natural that I want it my way. I'm sure everyone does deep down. I have no issue admitting that I sounded selfish, and I probably am, but I would never truly want to deprive anyone of anything, it's just what I'd want if it was just for me. But it's not, obviously, which is why I'm here with everyone else lol.

Same I remember reading that it's when I hoped Cullen/Scribe Girl would be o/s only and everyone else would be for everyone.
