Reminds me of Skyrim. Where I explored the world alone, and came back to my home to say hello to my " wife."  And after a few days spent with her, the hero says goodbye to his wife and his children and go travel again. " Yeah That sounded so dull, so boring. I'm talking about the concept, not the content.

My poor Aela. I just came by to get gold or a quest every once in a while. Though...I have to admit her saying "something has shifted in the moons, sister" every time I saw her tamped down my desire to see her.  Felt kinda incesty.

I don't necessarily mind the idea of a person at the base, but they definitely need a fair bit of content equal to that of a companion so it doesn't feel shafted.

I'm hoping the characters will move around the base and interact with each other similar to how they weren't always in their rooms on the Normandy in ME3. That way we can get some "party banter" while not out exploring, and that'll help compensate for a lack of that element in regards to NPC romances.

After playing Dragon Age, it was more then just romances that were disappointing. Traveling with anyone was so silent. I guess I get why they opted for no chatter but it was just so lifeless :/ I nvr brought anyone along if I could help it, it just made me sad.

Obviously you never traveled with Mjoll the Lioness.

That woman does not shut up.

Still, I love Skyrim, but Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age are apples and oranges. There's a lot both series could learn from each other, though.

 I made her a blade b/c I couldn't get rid of her sidekick. :(

Someone linked commentary from Gaider about an "even spread" of romances in the other thread a while back, if anyone interested missed it.

Despite the nasty impression most people got from that thread, this and Allan's comments made me more confident we'll get 2/2/2 or something close. I guess I'm feeling a little more hopeful about the split.

I'm still kind of bummed that NPC romances are going to be replacing a companion romance. I know some people like them, but it's just not what I wanted at all

I think there is a bit of difference compared to ME3. Shepard was the boss and both of NPC LIs were not soldiers
This time it seems Cullen and Scribbles will be leaders of their own parties and be almost equal allies, capable of fighting no less than any companion

Scribbles doesn't strike me as a fighter.

I never doubted that we'd get 2/2/2. I thought that was pretty locked down.

She is possibly a mage and a faction leader anyway

Possibly, but everything strikes her as a true noncombatant.

True but at least this way there's no way people can complain about most of your companions hitting on you.

I guess I'm falling back on my previous guesses;

Solas - Straight

Dorian - Gay

Cullen - Bisexual

Cassandra - Straight

Sera - Lesbian

Scribe Girl - Bisexual

I'm still thinking she'll be a mage. Maybe not a very combat proficient mage, but a mage none the less.

The shot of all the companions in the trailer is perfectly symmetrical if she's a mage; going outward from the inquisitor you have a warrior, mage, rogue, rogue, mage, and warrior, in both directions.

Not buying anything more unless it's officially stated.

If they include 8 romances,my guesses are

NPC's: Cullen (bisexual) Scribe Girl (bisexual)

Playable characters

Cassandra (straight) Sera (bisexual) Vivienne (lesbian)

Grey Warden or Iron Bull (straight) Solas (bisexual) Dorian (gay)

If there are 8 romances I think they'd make the elves bisexual, so everyone can romance them. Same they'd do with the NPC's.

I hope both straight and gay people get a unique human romance.

I don't want them to replace the playable characters with NPC romances. I hope, they added the NPC romances as additional content and not on exchange. Of course, 8 romances are a lot, but they decided not to add a character via DLC, so maybe they prevent future romances by including as many as possible directly.

---

If there are only six romances (that might well be so), I think all of them are bisexual. Otherwise it'd be as step backwards to only have one companion romance for each sexual orientation. It would mean, even straight people only get one companion and the last time I saw this, was in KOTOR. Okay, in that game you couldn't romance a NPC, but I think, Bioware knows that people wouldn't be happy having potential companion romances replaced with NPC's.

so I think the companion romances are: Cassandra, Sera, Solas and Dorian and The NPC's Cullen and Scribe Girl (all of them bisexual)

But these are just my guesses.

no mustache no peace

Pretty disappointed they're not all playersexual, I don't particularly like playing fem/fem romance and I don't want my greediness for dudes to screw someone out of their preferred pairing, you know?

The likely notion of less content per LI already has me bummed sufficiently. Really don't want to countenance the notion that previous levels of companion romance choice per orientation will be removed and substituted with NPC ones.

I'm not happy about it, either. NPC romances would have worked way better if they stayed all bi/vague.

I think people should wait and see how the potential NPC romances are handled before they panic. They could end up being the best romances the DA team has ever written. Who knows?

There's no way they can handle them well for me as adventuring together is a large part of what makes up the romance experience beyond the finite romance specific content.

That's how I feel, too. Taking them everywhere makes them feel like a constant part of your entire adventure. It feels like everything you accomplished, you did it together. There's no way visiting them at camp can make up for it, to me.

Although, if an NPC romance is done well (never tried one in ME so I have little room to judge), it would be nice to have "someone to go home to," since I think we get a home base.

Well that scuttlebutt thread finally closed.

I swear, I got at least 100 likes from that thing.

Anyway, I think I'm done arguing on the NPC romance front for now. I've made my position clear and I'm not particularly persuasive. I just hope they improve on them from ME3.
