So why these stories should have anything to do with a romance? Well if you are that straight guy then it might be a big deal to you that you have been living in that island and not have any romantic relationships and you might not want to discuss about that not even with your closest friends. So that guy could only tell that story to an LI and I think that trust which he will give that LI makes the relationship more deep and meaningful.
I feel like a dude island in Thedas is really stretching for context here.
The "noble has to marry" one could just as easily be a bisexual that had fallen in love with someone of the same sex. Although, most people don't seem to give a crap about infidelity among the aristocratic marriages. The wiki says marriage isn't that tied with love in Thedas, anyway. This same scenario could be done with fantasy races, like Alistair was, anyway. It's not like they need gender to highlight forbidden love. Race is a much bigger deal than gender in Thedas.

This is really true.
Elves get hated for more then any LGBT person would in Thedas.
Like in Orlais especially.
I mean Gaspard in the book was shocked that Celene really was sleeping with Briala.
But the book notes its more about her being an ELF then being a woman.

I wish there was a better way to implement a chance for your character to be a flirt, without having it mean something serious. I like being flirtatious, but I don't always want being flirtatious to mean something dramatic or lead to a "you cheated on me, you bastard" sort of scene.
I wonder...maybe a heart icon with a winky-face in it? Meaning a flirt with no intent!
I'd love that, because my PCs tend to flirt compulsively and it'd be nice being able to do it safely, with unwanted break ups ![]()

Yeah that was silly.
"Oh hey nice outfit looks GREAT on you"
"Thanks!"

"Well I do love a man in uniform"
"WHAT I THOUGHT YOU LOVED ME!??!?| ![]()
That must get annoying.

The island was just an example. It could be any place where you are straight woman and others are women or when you are gay man and others are women etc. And I don't see any stretching for contex here. I bet there are isoleted places in Thedas. If I remember right one reason why Alistair was inexperienced was that he didn't really have an opportunity to meet any girl.
In that particular "noble has to marry" scenario the man takes very seriously the marrying stuff. He doesn't want to cheat on his future wife. But in the same time it is expected from him to marry a girl. But he doesn't like girls at all. So he doesn't have choices. So it's not about forbidden love and that's why story is different than in your example. Maybe he finds a reason to leave and you meet him somewhere and he becomes your LI and then he tells about his past. Maybe race is bigger deal in Thedas. I don't know but nevertheles this story is not about it.

Alistair was a human noble, but he broke off his relationship with women who romanced him with other races if not hardened, or kept them as only a mistress if hardened.
To me, this kind of story is a lot more relevant to Thedas. I just don't see the "gay noble" as different enough from "bi noble" to warrant gating. Not to mention, it's just another "gay angst" story, which I really want to avoid and a lot of other people have also strongly expressed wanting to avoid in this thread. It feels like very few actual LGB people want to see more "gay oppression" stories.

I look forward to finding out that Isabela is our financial advisor, and the Inquisition has no money because she spent it all on hookers and blow. This would make the game much more fun.
You would get the 'fail' ending if you choose Isabela as your financial adviser.
The final cutscene would make it totally worth it.

It's not so much that I'd mind seeing a story like this in DA:I, it would just be pretty frustrating if it was the ONLY 'gay' story. It's all about numbers. There's nothing wrong with 'coming out' stories, but when those are the ONLY kind of stories we get, it's less welcome. Just like there's nothing wrong with having a gay villain, but if the ONLY gay characters one encounters are the villains, it kind of sends a message.
So TL;DR I wouldn't mind seeing a story with one of the companions (LI or not) struggling to come to terms with a same-sex romance, I DO hope that's not the only way that Bioware represents gay/lesbian/bi folks in this game. ![]()

In DA2 it was worse... I flirted with Merrill a couple of times to see how she would react, she seemed oblivious, so I forgot about her, that is until she showed up for the love scene. I either had to only have Merrill OR I had to be the most evil person ever and just put her down. It was a difficult arena since we never had ANY real romantic scenes.

Turning her down wasn't nearly as bad as turning Jack from ME2 down. I had just been nice to her repeatedly, suddenly she's all SO ARE WE A THING OR WHAT and I'm like "What?!" and the only way out is to be like LOL I DON'T DO CRAZY and I felt horrible about it.

I still like 4 bisexual LIs.
Cassandra: bisexual
Sera: bisexual
Solas: bisexual
mustache guy: bisexual
