I should load up the game and go through chargen proper again. I am curious what the Qunari looks like (men and women) at this point. It's been a couple months.
If you don't mind my asking, Allan, how recent is the build you have? Or is it regularly updated as development advances?
Nope and nope!
You dont happen to play as an Engineer in TF2?
Miners, construction workers, and blacksmiths aren't muscular? Also wouldn't it be extremely hard to artificially breed for gender specific traits? I mean if you pair up a tiny woman and a muscly dude you don't know he's not going to pass his musclyness to his daughters and she her smallness to her sons.
Plus a few hundred years of selective breeding would be REALLY really really short time for such diverse sexual dimorphism to show up in a species.
To be fair, we have no idea how the Qunari genes work.

The build I use is at most a day old. Most of the time it's from the early morning the same day. I'm just not often going into the game running through chargen.
Off topic so if you want to have a more thorough discussion feel free to open (and point me to) a thread in Scuttlebut. But most of the work I have been doing now has been involving testing and isolating VFX performance as well as creating a variety of scripts to help out QA colleagues with assorting testing requirements.

I guess pretty much anything can explained if you say "But their genes are MAGIC" but if you're going to do that why say genes at all? Why not just go 'because magic' as the answer.

Fine, because magic then.
I was thinking since they aren't human, their genes may not do the same as our genes do.
Fine, because magic then.

But seriously, we should get back on topic.
I think what it comes down to is, even if you can say "see, we made this make sense" it doesn't necessarily make it stop being a problem. You can come up with a fantasy explanation why your males look genuinely alien and the females are still sexed up hot chicks. That doesn't make it stop being a textbook example of the way media objectifies women.

Apart from the priests what male role in the qun would they want (or care about) non muscular men? What if they didn't allow those muscled females / diminutive males to reproduce? Wouldn't that limit the occurrence people not fitting in with the body types we see? What if the dimorphism is the natural state? Do we even know how long this has been around? I was just guessing really.
Also i did get off topic, I was just kind of looking through random pages as 300 pages is a bit much to read for a forum conversation.

On topic, I think I said this in another thread, but it occurs to me it would be really shocking for a character as attractive as Viviene to not be an LI.

We don't really know what jobs males could have. But there's plenty that haven't been assigned a gender yet that don't require buffness. Scribes, entertainers, musicians. Not letting the muscled females breed wouldn't make sense since they have so many active jobs like miners, construction workers, farmers, blacksmiths ect. And again even if you don't let weak males or buff females breed, there's still no way to really prevent the buff males from having buff daughters or small ladies from having small sons.
Man we don't even know how long the qunari race has been around. Theories are they're something else merged with dragons (although considering dragons have a sexual dimorphism that makes the females much bigger, you'd think that would mean qunari ladies would be the bigger ones)
Yeah we are really off topic though.
I demand LI comments on the impressive beauty of my Qunari abs.
Edit:
And we talk about NPC romances, but personally I'd like to see a villain/PC romance. It would (1) force Bioware to actually have us interact with a lead villain on multiple occasions; (2) could totally explain the stupid decisions villains often engage in (like sending you enemies only slightly stronger than you instead of just unleashing the Uber Monster of Doom from the start); and (3) make for some hilariously awkward conversations at the endgame.
Villain(ess): Join me, and we shall rule together!
PC: I'm not sure I'm ready for that sort of commitment... maybe, we move in first?
lmao I would love a villian/pc romance. Maybe it could be a npc romance ![]()

I think all the women are really attractive out of this lineup, but some of them have to not be LIs. ![]()

We'll see. For all we know the villain is the sort where any romance leads to squick. Say, the DA:A mother-esque. ![]()

I haven't really seen a good shot of Scribbles or Sera to decide. I think Sera looks very similar to Cassandra in the one shot we've seen - short hair, similar facial structure, even a scar across her nose (instead of across her cheek). Which makes me hold out for Viviene.
Edit: It occurs to me this thought is totally not complete. I meant to add that because Sera is so similar to Cass in appearance, I have a hard time seeing them both as LIs (or at least I'd rather they not be both LIs, on appearance grounds).
I don't usually romance mages on a first playthrough--not that there's any particular reason why. But I could see myself romancing Viv, easily.

But I would love if the nice helpful NPC (or tsun tsun NPC) you meet is the main villian maybe if you're romancing them certain battles are less deadly for the protag (the orders change from kill on sight to capture him/her) just to give you hints that the antagonist might not hate you as much as they should ![]()

Well, Leliana is all but confirmed to not be so that leaves 4 so maybe they all are.

Yes, joking aside, I think there's a lot of fun to be had with a main villain romance. You just need a magnificent bastard type character, as opposed to the usual ax-crazy apocalypse causing loon we usually see in-game.
You could even have a (non-plot magic) capture, with two totally different experiences depending on the romance being triggered or not (e.g. actual dungeon vs. "dungeon").
Well, Leliana is all but confirmed to not be so that leaves 4 so maybe they all are.
Man if there were 4 LIs of each gender I'd be shocked. Happy, but shocked.
If they could do 8 total LIs without sacrificing overall romantic content or friendship based content, then it would be amazing. But I'm skeptical and I don't really want to water down the content we do get to spread it around more. ![]()
