What makes you think Iron Bull? I just ask because most people seem to say Solas or DHMG for the possible male slots.
The fact that there already is two humans taking LI spots. I just think there should be more racial variety ^^

I think that's actually why most people say Solas. It's true the non-companion slots have always been elves so far, though, so the 'diversity' thing isn't going far.
Have't been through the topic yet, but I gotta say....the last one's been closed yesterday and we've already got a new one.
You can say what you will, but people gotta respect our dedication. ![]()
As far as the topic goes:
1) What I think will happen (regardless of whether I'm happy with it or not):
Cassandra (Companion, straight);
Cullen (NPC; bisexual);
Scribe Girl (NPC; bisexual);
Sera (Companion; gay);
Solas (Companion; gay);
Iron Bull or DHMG (Companon; straight)
2) What I want to happen (with every fiber of my being):
Cassandra (Companion, bisexual)
Everything else is just the cherry on top. Though if I had complete control over the romances:
Cassandra (Companion, bisexual);
Varric (Companion, don't care either way);
Iron Bull or Beardy ManWarden (Companion, don't care either way);
Sera or Vivenne (Companion, preferably bisexual)
3) What sort of love interests I want to see in the future:
- a manly man with muscles and body hair and an intimidating appearance who actually gets extremely flustered and shy when it comes to romance (he may or may not also compensate for his completely unmanly hobbies and his desire to marry and have a horde of children to pamper by trying to solve everything with his fists)
- finally an emotionally distant lady for FemPC; lesbian romances almost always seem to have only nice and romantic love interests (see Leliana, Liara, Sam), at least in recent titles, and I would FINALLY like someone like Morrigan or Miranda as a LI (Isabela was a good start with her complete lack of interest in all that romantic crap, but I would like it if this emotional distance didn't involve promiscuity); I love the Defrosting Ice Queen trope, but only for lesbian romances
- someone like Aveline ![]()
- an older man/woman (someone who will inevitably angst about the PC being so much younger than them)
- an asexual romance (and just less pressure to do the nasty with your LI in general; some companions need a good snuggle way more than sex)
- Qunari romance (one who actually follows the Qun...it'd be interesting to see how an arrangement such as this between a Qunari and someone who doesn't follow the Qun might work out)
4) Expected and preferred system
Expected: 2/2/2
Preferred: all bisexual, regardless of number
5) Expected number of love interests
Six. Four companions and two NPCs.
6) NPC romances?
I firmly expect there to be NPC romances, since Cullen seems unlikely to be a companion. I'm personally not a fan of them, since it is practically impossible to integrate them as much into the story and the PC's life as companions. Traveling with someone, fighting all sorts of monsters together, seeing each other at your best (relaxing in the tavern after a particuarly hard battle) and your worst (covered in dragon guts and who knows what else or crumbling under the pressure)....that's something that can't be achieved with a character who waits at home and sorts your papers.
I think the NPC romances will be a lot like the Sam romance in ME. Cullen and NPC LI #2 will be your advisors of sorts (secretaries, if you will) and the entire romance will consist of either you bugging them with questions or them screaming something about messages at you. They'll also have a personal quest (as I can't imagine Bioware will purposely give them less content), which I imagine will be something like "fetch me a new bottle of ink/that sword I lost on my way out of Kirkwall" or "talk to my estranged father/mother/dog for me".
...yeah, the more I think about this, the less I like the idea of NPC romances.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Now excuse me while I go back to stalking the devs on twitter.
1. Probably Cullen/Solas and Cassandra/ Sera
2. Varric, Varric and Varric
3. Romances from other species. Every game so far it's just been humans and elves, humans and elves. I'm bored of humans and elves I want dwarves and qunari.
4. Probably some combination, I wouldn't mind playersexual
5. Four seems to be the magic number
6. I don't care, if it makes people happy then why not.
The romance system and most of the love interests are still up in the air, so I thought we could use a dedicated speculation thread to discuss all things romance related. For example;-Who do you think the love interests will be?-Who do you want the love interests to be?-What sort of love interests would you like to see in the future?-What system do you think they'll use and what system do you want? (playersexual, bisexual, some vague combination, 2/2/2, other restrictions)-How many love interests do you think there will be?-NPC romances; Do you think we'll get them? Do you want them? How do you think they'd work?
1. -
2. Solas and Cullen seems to be most interesting based on what I have seen but I would have to play the game to know who I like the best.
3. I like LIs to be different and I guess their personality doesn't matter as much as the the romance itself. I have explained this more in here: http://forum.bioware...3#entry16448071
4. I think they are using playersexual/bisexual/some vague combination but I'm hoping it's 2/2/2
5. 4
6. I guess we will get them and I think it's good idea that there are NPC romances and I think they can work well as any other romance. There are ways to do it but I'm not sure is it easier to write meaningfull NPC romance when the character isn't with you all the time. I guess it's harder but it can be done.
I've heard Cullen and Cassandra are confirmed so far but I'm not too jazzed about either. I was never a Cullen fangirl outside of the fact when I first heard him in DA2 I squeed ANDERS!!!!!! lol and I'm sorry but Cassandra looks like a dude now, a very ugly dude. But I have yet to play the game so I don't know, I may end up loving both but for now, meh. I'll be really bummed if the other male LI ends up being Varric, love his personality but I don't find dwarves appealling. I was always bummed that the best male LI in ME was easily the fuglist - Garrus but he was just so BA that I got over it, lol. Hey! It's not like *I* gotta have "sexy time" with him. ![]()
1. If there are four, as in DAO: Cullen, Solas, Cassandra and Sera. If there are more than that (which seems likely if Cullen is an NPC romance) then it's all a bit up in the air until we find out who the remaining unrevealed companions are. (If we ever do, before launch time.)
2. I'd prefer Varric, Iron Bull and/or the Grey Warden for the guys. (No particular preferences for the ladies.) I don't expect to get any of the above, but I'll live with it.
3. Men who aren't pretty humans and elves? (Not that I have anything against pretty humans and elves. I've enjoyed the LIs we've had in the series so far, but for once I'd like to be able to play a dwarf and end up with another dwarf. Or a qunari who ends up with another qunari.)
4. I'd prefer 2/2/2. I have no clue what they're actually going to use, though - 2/2/2 seems a bit more likely if there are indeed NPC romances and Cullen is one of them.
5. At least four. Maybe five, like in DA2, with four companions and Cullen as an extra NPC romance. They could go as high as six, and in that case I'd expect to see two NPCs (Cullen and Scribbles?) and four companions (Cassandra, Sera, Solas and ... I want to say Varric, but Dramatic Hands Moustache Guy seems like a much safer bet.)
6. I'd be happy with NPC romances if it meant we got more options in total. It seems like we're going to spend plenty of time managing things at Skyhold, which would give us a chance to interact with people who stay there and manage things while the party is off exploring caves and closing rifts.
Solas (Companion; gay);
That wouldn't make his fan thread very happy, I think. It seems like he's the one most non-Cullenite female fans have latched onto, so I don't see it going over well. lol

None of the LIs being male- or female-only is gonna go over well. I'm afraid tumblr will spontaneously combust if they announce Cassandra to be straight...and can you imagine what would happen if Cullen turned out to be straight (or gay)? The BSN will burn to the ground. ![]()

I feel like people wouldn't be that surprised if Cullen was straight, but maybe it's just me. People would flip if he was gay, whether they wanted to romance him or not, because it retcons his Origins characterization. Bisexual you can pass off, even if some people complain, but making him fully gay would be a different issue.
I don't have tumblr, so I don't know what the community there is like. lol
I don't have a problem if Solas or Cullen is gay and I can't romance one of them because my inquisitor is female. I'm sure that there is at least one LI who interests me. I guess it makes things easier because I don't have to be afraid that this certain character isn't LI or this LI can be romanced only by male characters. I guess I'm more worried about that the romance will end badly. I guess one of the worst things that could happen would be if I could find my LI in bed with another character or my LI just leaves me and I couldn't do anything about it.

1. Cassandra, Cullen, Vivienne, Solas
2. Cullen, Solas
3. well written
4. playersexual
5. 6
6. no
People seem to forget that Thedas society is different from ours and may be even their physiology is as well. After all you have people born with magical talent, so who is to say that people in Thedas aren't bisexual? There has certainly never been the prejudice against same sex relations as in our world. People think it more usual to have heterosexual relations and may think it a little odd to opt for something different but it seems people are more scandalised if a human noble has an elven lover (as opposed to simply raping them or having a one night stand) than the fact they are of the same sex.
However, the fact is that a character will only respond to your character as gay or straight if you pursue a romance with them. If your male Hawke flirts with Fenris he will respond, but if the romance goes nowhere Fenris hooks up with Isabella (unless she is with Hawke). The only character who is openly bisexual thus far has been Zevran and even he admits that if asked to choose he prefers a woman's curves but this is true whether you play as male or female. We have not had a character who has been only available to a same sex PC in Dragon Age, though we did have two characters of that nature, one male, one female, in ME3. However, I think that is unlikely to occur in Dragon Age.
If you don't want to see a gay Cullen (assuming he is a romance option with either sex) then don't flirt with him. Same goes for any other returning character. Simple.
Isabela is very openly bisexual and I'm pretty sure Leliana also is. The others are just more vague. Just because Fenris sleeps with Isabela doesn't necessarily mean he's straight. You could think he was, or ignore meta knowledge to see him as straight in your play through, but it's just as easily to believe he's a bisexual person in a m/f pairing with Isabela.
This is like Anders' situation though. In previous games both he and Cullen showed interest only in PC and people of the opposite genderPeople seem to forget that Thedas society is different from ours and may be even their physiology is as well. - Cass for sure.
Sera and DHMG
- I'd like Varric to be LI and DHMG
- Well. it should be well written and polished. ![]()
- They use playersexual but I would rather have 2/2/2 option
-4-6
- Yes, I think for example Cullen will be NPC romance. It's nice idea, will see how it will work.
This is like Anders' situation though. In previous games both he and Cullen showed interest only in PC and people of the opposite gender
So unless it means that our male PCs were ugly as frag it seems like a retcon. And I don't like retcons
Oh, and all this "Thedas-is-100%-bi" is kind of weak since we rarely if ever see bisexual relationship outside of the party. If it was that common we would surely see such families, couples in great amounts, wouldn't we?
Unless of course bioware are simply doing a bad job at showing it in the game, novels and comics...
Well there is gay couples in game and novels. Two grey wardens from The Calling were gays and Wade and Herren in DAO and DA:A
But yea it doesn't seem like everyone in Thedas is bisexual to me. In that case Morrigan and Alistair would have been too.
Cullen is either hetero or bi in DAI. Him being gay would just conflict lore too much.
WHY? WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?
DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE HORROR YOU'VE UNLEASHED?
... I hope we get Dorian.
I want a straight elf for once. I don't want Solas to be gay or bi. All the elven LIs have been bi so far.
I hope we get 6 LI, 4 companions and 2 NPC, all bi.
And no 2/2/2, please no 2/2/2.
If DHMG is a LI it MIGHT even be my second male romance in any game (not just Bioware....well unless you count SR4 as having romances)
Yeah, but it still seems like a rare case. The grey wardens also seemed to want to escape from the world. At first I thought it was because they were hated for being lovers but after all new information... I'm confused. And Wade... I didn't even know until I read about it. I could hardly call them even friends...Well there is gay couples in game and novels. Two grey wardens from The Calling were gays and Wade and Herren in DAO and DA:A

Also, lol. Because the only reason a bisexual character wouldn't want to bang absolutely anyone is if they were uuuuuuglyyyyyy. ![]()
Those crazy, promiscuous bisexuals with their low standards and their not caring about a person's personality or ethics.
How male Amell is ethnically or personality wise different from female Amell?Also, lol. Because the only reason a bisexual character wouldn't want to bang absolutely anyone is if they were uuuuuuglyyyyyy.
