I mean, I get that the request for younger guys maybe comes across as shallow, but the fact is that it's just impossible to find a character in a fantasy medium that I can really see myself in. Maybe I'll appreciate it in 15 years, I guess. As is, Bioware is really the only source I know of that heavily features gay characters in fantasy. There's a lot of push I've seen for specifically trying to make gay characters "not a stereotype". People suggesting making them someone like the warden. The only one we've actually had is Cortez, who has a very stereotypically manly look with the bulky figure, shaved head, chiseled features. I get the fear some people have, but it makes me feel like that's what men should want to be, regardless of sexuality. The message feels like, "see, gay men can be as good as the super masculine straight men". But what if you don't want to be that? If you don't want to be the grizzled, older guy, or the muscular, Captain America looking guy, then you're doing male wrong, it seems like. The guys I see people calling "pretty boys" are way more masculine than I am, or ever wanted to be, or want my partner to be. It seems like the only way for males to be "unconventional" is to push even further into hyper-masculinity, like Iron Bull.
I'm not saying that all of the men should be young, but it would really be nice if we could get one eventually that looked as young as several of the females already have (early 20s) and that could maybe subvert gender stereotypes at least a little. I mean, at least not being extremely masculinized physically. It's something I feel like is extremely lacking in media, generally, but especially the fantasy genre.
