His reactions upon meeting Morrigan for one (sneaky witch thief really?), his interactions with her later (nose jokes), dumping the responsibility upon the PC's lap with his flip floping on hard choices (One moment he's sober and going yeah Conner needs to be killed the next he's jumping down the PC's throat about it and when called on it he pretty much pouts). It's small things like that to me.

Oh, I see. I saw all that more as a matter of personality, I've met people like that wo definitely was not in their early twenties anymore  :P

Also, I started getting grey when I was 19.  However, I've always looked young for my age, people were still mistaking me for 18 in my mid-to-late 20s.  Greying doesn't necessarily mean anything about age.  But to be fair, I suppose that in art, where visual information is important to get across in character design, it often is an indicator of age.

My brain boggles at the idea that the companion LIs in Origins were in their early or mid 20s.  Morrigan, Alistair, Leliana, and Zevran seemed *at least* in their late 20s to me.  I always imagined the WardenPC was the youngest of the group.

Same. I started graying in my 20s, and it's really picked up in my 30s...but one of my grandmothers was completely white by my age, so, yeah, thanks genetics. I'm relying on the combo of my Mom's "stay young looking for ages" genes and a good hairdresser. :P

I was surprised at the idea of the companions in Origins being so young too, though I think some of it is projection.  I was 32 when it came out, and I feel like the companions are ambiguous enough that way to let a lot of us simply feel like, "Oh, he/she is about my age" without too much thought.  That's probably by design.  Or possibly just my own coping mechanism for no longer being in my 20s.  Even though a person's 30s are VIBRANT AND AWESOME. *cough*

I guess Alistair's personality is young, but I kind of just thought he was naturally awkward, charming, and leadership-averse.  Depending on whether you harden him or not, he doesn't really change much once he's on the throne.  It's just him, not an age thing.

I guess I'm confused because Alistair was definitely early 20's and Fenris, to me at least, looked very young (like early 20's).

So yeah, they are a bit stylized, but these are the guys that I'm talking about:

More like this?

Well, I don't know. They're very cartoon-y. I guess more like that in the face, if their hair didn't look like a modern art project. lol

Alistair looks like he's in his late 20s to early 30s, to me, but he's also really bulky and very obviously masculine. I mean, if he were a real human, he would be sort of an Chris Evans/Chris Hemsworth type. For a real life human, he would be pretty impressively built. For a superhero, maybe he would be average sized. That's how it seems to me, at least.

Fair enough :P I had the impression he and the warden were supposed to be close in age and the warden's suggested to be pretty young and Alistair's personality just reinforced that.

I thought it was anything between those two numbers. Thus a 20ish Inq is possible to play.

Still to much of an age gap imo

Yeah, anything. 20, 30, 40, 21, 37, 28 etc...

anything, it's just that 20 is not a default age

Is Fenris closer to what you are hoping for?  He's younger and looks much less traditionally masculine than the other m/m options.

I wouldn't call him anything close to a "pretty boy" either. In fact, I found Fenris much more masculine than Anders due to his super deep (and super sexy) voice, and just the fact that he was overall a badass. I liked that his softer look clashed with his intense demeanor, I though it gave the character some great depth as far as a gay option went. Anders and Sky were both very quirky and witty, Kaiden was very upstanding and Cortez was just your average guy (though 100% gay, which was nice), I really enjoyed having Fenris as an option because he was quite different.

His rumoured backstory (outcast magister) would imply some age.  And I think facial air makes people seem more mature

Does being a magister require being a certain age? Wiki suggests it can be inherited by heirs or appointed.

I don't view his facial hair as particular ageing, the pics that exist strike me as mid-twenties but i could well be wrong.

Agreed.  I'd rather they just take a stand.  The Warden was clearly in his/her early 20's.  Hawke was mid-late twenties.  The Inquisitor could be early 30's.

Shove it you. Let me play my 20 year old Inq in peace :crying:  :P

@Chari: I know that's great that the age range is decent. I'm still playing my Inq as a 20 year old though :P

You can make warden or Hawke look 16 or 60 if you tweak the creator enough and I doubt the Inquisitor will be different. If possible, I think it's better if you can pick from a wide variety of ages. It's just overall more inclusive.

Then they should make the story allow that.  Hawke being older than early-mid twenties in the beginning of DA2 doesn't make sense given Carver and Bethany's age (late teens) and Leandra's looks, who despite her grey hair looks young and pretty and a little sexy.  He also has to be 19 at the youngest since he's older than the twins.

A mage warden is just going through their Harrowing.  A dwarf noble is younger than Trian and older than Bhelen.  A dwarf commoner is  younger than Rica.  A noble human is younger than Fergus.  A city elf is just being put in an arranged marriage where all of the other elves involved look as if they are in their early 20's.  None of these stories make sense for the character to be any older than mid-20's at the oldest.  So there's not much "variety" available.

Hawke had a set age I'm pretty sure. 25 in act 1 I think?

But yeah the warden was pretty much assumed to be fairly young.

Well, we don't know the origins for the Inquisitor yet. It's possible that they allow for age to not really be a concern.

I've never played Final Fantasy, so I'm not sure how well I can answer this. I don't want them to be so stylized? Early 20s, though, yes.

Just post a picture of a man or character you feel fits. Give an example.

The devs said that the PC would be an indeterminate age between 20-40.

Bethesda's games usually do a pretty good job of allowing you to role play a character of any age without it conflicting with the story.  The downside is that the characters are really pretty much blanks slates with no background.  I think it's difficult to give a character a backstory, like Bioware does, and still allow a 20 year age range.  It starts to get in the way of the story for me a bit.

Early 20's I think.  I don't believe a specific age was given.  Unless we know precisely when Malcolm was taken by the Wardens, as Leandra was pregnant with Hawke at the time.

Though Hawke being 20 years older than the sibling is entirely possible.  I know siblings with age ranges like that. ;)

As for the Inquisitor, I'm sure we won't get a specific age range, so we could play anything from a hard-living 20-somethings to baby-faced 40-somethings

Didn't Leandra leave like...20 years or something ago? She hasn't been gone for 40 years. There's no way Hawke's 40.

Yep looking at the wiki

Hawke is roughly 24 or 25 at the start of Act 1. Gamlen states that Leandra left with Malcolm 25 years ago and Malcolm states that Leandra was pregnant when they left. This would mean that by the end of the game, Hawke is 30-31.

To be honest, it doesn't really bother me much if the protagonist starts as a blank slate. I'd actually kind of like it better than Hawke, to be honest. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love that the main story, companion characters, NPCs and romances are way more in depth in Bioware games than Bethesda's. I don't really find the protagonist background important, though. I like it when you can make them as much your character as possible.

Well, blond isn't necessary. It seems like they usually are when media does have a younger male. Like in Eragon or the older brother in Narnia? I guess there's Prince Caspian. He would also work and isn't blond.

I could deal without the lumpy chins. That's up to creator discretion, I guess.
