Personally, I don't technically like calling these characters 'bi' unless it is directly stated by them (such as in Izzy's case). The simple logic is if I romance Fenris with my female Hawke, then it's safe to consider him 'straight' in that particular reality. But in another parallel universe where I romance him with my dude Hawke, he can be gay all he wants because there is literally nothing in that playthrough that states otherwise. So given these two situations, Fenris is neither gay, nor straight, nor bi. He's simply whatever I want him to be.

It's why I find DA2's approach to romance to be the best of the bunch, really. But I'm not expecting to see that in DA:I.

So just because the characters don't go around telling everyone they meet they're bi, they must only be inclined toward the gender of the character you romance them with?

It seems like it's always Cassandra and Dorian in the avatars. Half the people on the forum are Cassandra or Dorian. lol

Lately I've been thinking that Solas doesn't really belong in the line-up. Call me crazy, but the more I look at him, the more he doesn't scream "LI." Now this is most definitely not based on personal feelings, as I equally dislike the look of maybe!Dorian, but I feel 100% that he will be a LI. But Solas' look has to be such a conscious choice by the artists. It's Gollum meets Nosferatu meets Dobby. That just doesn't spell out "romance" to me.

So I'm revising:

Males:

Cullen -- bi

Dorian -- gay

Beardy -- straight

Again, this does NOT benefit me b/c I want to romance Beardy and I'd like him to be available to my dude!quizzy. But I do think Dorian will be gay (somehow I just see the writers/artists falling into the stereotype that is his overall look), and even though my greatest fear is that Cullen will be straight, I see them making the NPC bi. Now, I don't want to believe that, because I want to be pleasantly surprised, but this isn't about my personal feelings.

Why Beardy instead of Varric -- b/c of a couple things Cam said in various interviews, mostly, suggesting that no way is Varric romanceable.

Why Beardy instead of Iron Bull -- just because of the sheer size of Iron Bull and how difficult this would be to animate versus a human-shaped and human-sized Beardy. That's the only reason, really.

Since this is a video game, I would expect no less. There's definitely headcanon work involved as well. It's just more flexible, and flexibility is rarely a bad thing.

Gay guys aren't stereotypically fancy. Straight guys are just stereotypically sloppy. ):

Well I caught up and boy this thread is very busy.

I did like DA2 where I wasnt going to be forced to play certain characters. But I do see the point of it could been felt cheap to some people.

Im fancifully sloppy. :)

Im guessing that the characters most important to the story will be straight, would be a shame if that happens but i won't be surprised if it turns out like that.

I can see why people will miss playersexual, but I actually like that it's not going to be around? I feel like individual sexual orientations will allow better characters and more interesting writing. A lot of people are going to be disappointed, no matter what the assignments/arrangements are, but that's just how it goes. As long as they keep the amount of choices are relatively balanced, I think things will be okay.

lol Too right. But I meant his choice in facial hair. It's a rare look for a straight man. Pretty common for gay men of a certain age and era (not common today).

But what he said was true. He explained it pretty well. A female PC could potentially have 3 romances in ME3. Doesn't mean that it still didn't suck to play a fem PC in ME3, without having played ME1 and ME2, and realize you only had Kaidan as you're option.

Yeah, he explained it pretty well. I still don't agree. Looking at ME3 as stand alone...no I don;t agree. And potential vs. reality are two diff things. And if you don;t import, there's not even potential. I'm looking at ME3 alone, he's looking at the entire trilogy.

And it still doesn't mean it didn't suck for gay/lesbians thruout the previous two games.

And for replayability? I like the idea of there being some variety.

And I totally understand that viewpoint, as much as I liked DA2's approach. Too many people called DA2's romances 'cheap' and 'unrealistic' just because they were open regardless of Hawke's sex. I don't agree with it, but I get it.

So while I'm certain we will still get 'bi' romances in the next game, they will just be some of the companions and not the whole bunch.

If that mustache were normal, by the way, Movember wouldn't be such a big deal for men to participate in lol Nobody wants to grow a solo-stash; it don't look right in this day and age. (Something a friend of mine pointed out to me a couple days ago, and I just laughed and laughed, cause it's so true!)

I've just accepted that some people feel that way about sexuality and I'll never understand them.
