Speculating is good and healthy. These forums are actually quite relaxing. Many people have too much time on their hands. And I've got many long and boring classes. Writing here makes a hell lot of sense :D

From an RP point of view, I find it rather immature and mentally unstable for anyone in the place of the Inquisitor, esteemed leader of a powerful organization, to get crazy over a cheating LI. From a player point of view, it could create fun scenarios and everyone can do what the **** they want in their game.

See, the issue is that I don't want a cheating story forced on me and I don't think it's appropriate for choices you make in game to determine if your LI cheats.  Being unfaithful is 100% the cheater's choice and making infidelity a possibility based on PC choices implies the cheating is somehow the Inquisitor's fault.  I think the LI could choose to break things off and then pursue another LI based on the Inquisitor's interaction with them, but no thank you to the cheating.

However, I can understand why someone might enjoy exploring a story like that, what I said about it is personal preference.  If an LI cheats, I hope we're offered many ways to react.  Maybe the Inquisitor could want to stay together, break it off peacefully, physically attack/chase them away, or tell them they need to leave the organization.  Depending on who they cheat with you should have the option to send that person away too.

I agree. I was talking about the Inquisitor killing the cheating LI/other companion (seems like an overkill to me), not the actual inclusion of a cheating LI, which I could do without.

Yeah, I also can't see myself killing a companion over cheating but I guess others are just more... passionate... romantics than I :P

I'd like that option, but only if I get a "ghetto" armor set, complete with dirty white boxers, tanktop, and shotgun.

Seriously though. Do we really need to replicate this type of drama in Dragon Age? Go kill some Ogres or something.

My Inquisitor will probably have people far more worthy of being killed than a girlfriend who decides to pull a Bond girl scenario.

Probably. ^_^

True we just need a kick in the nads option before telling them to GTFO  (and stealing all their money and property).

*sends Cassandra and Cullen to the bog lands to harvest mosquito blood *

I'd rather abuse my authority to make their lives hell by giving them the shittiest jobs I can think of.

I pass on cheating LIs.  I've already seen what that looks like from BioWare and it was terrible.  Yes, DA is a different writing team and I like them and have faith in them greatly, but I'm not interested in giving another plot like that a chance.  At least, definitely not for any male LIs and lesbian LIs.

Feel free to try it out with a straight dude's LI.  Throw in a dead spouse background for good measure.

In the interest of efficiency, it will be a straight dude's LI who is cheating on him with his dead spouse, who she will talk about constantly. Instant hilarity when combined with the Necromancy specialization.

I think it's a fairly reasonable reaction to the situation, the want at least perhaps not going through with it.  Take real life for example, if you find out the person you love is cheating on you, unless you're an extremely passive individual you're likely to want to hurt them in some way.  Most people don't go through with it because they don't want to spend the rest of their lives in jail but many many people think it at first.  In game form, one can react accordingly and face no real consequences.

Personally, in game form, I'd more likely kill the companion that my LI cheated with as opposed to the LI, because sadly my Inquisitor will still be in love.

Though I do see that a cheating sub plot isn't the most liked idea here, I think perhaps having the PC and a companion both trying to court the same LI at the same time could play out interesting.  Perhaps they can have a friendly duel, where the PC leaves the companion a scar so that they remember that day.  20 years later that companion sets in motion a  chain of events that brings the realm to its knees.

There is a huge, huge gulf between not wanting to have anything to do with someone who cheated on you - including going so far as to never speak to them again and/or a sense of schadenfreude if they go through the same thing - but want to actual physically (or emotionally) hurt them is unhealthy.

Ugg. No to the cheating please. They are supposed to be romances after all not real life simulators!

Perhaps Thedas needs it's own version of the Jerry Springer show while we're at it.

Days of our Thedosian Lives. The Young and the Restless Ferelden. General Hospice. Lord Gray's Anatomy. So many soap-opera-esque options to choose from.

All I really want from these romance stories is some quality writing sprinkled with feels. Just give me the feels, please.

Emotional hurt is more ****** for tat than anything. Unhealthy but perfectly understandable.

(really? I can't say t** for tat? ...dat filter).

Come to think of it, was there ANY female LI in a Bioware game with some sort of Carth syndrome ? I know there isn't in KOTOR, ME and DA, but in previous games ?

I see

(I'm still mad that Jack was explicitly bi, but was only for male sheps...in fact, ME2 romances were the most rage-inducing)

I love Jack as a character, but I think her romance was really, really wrong and I hope Bioware won't ever go that same route again.

Jaheria in BG2 is the original Carth Syndrome. (to make it worse you even know her husband ahead of time >_> )

To make it worse, you find him dead moments before the first romantic dialog triggers with Jaheira.

Ugh yeah and I tried to pick the "don't you think this is a bit fast" type choices but they were all too dickish :(

(and of course the "friendship" paths in BG are utterly laughable).

He just needs a name that's more fitting for the setting, like Jeralt Springhaven.

I agree that Jack's romance seems kind of...well...jacked. It doesn't feel right to pitch woo at this broken psycho living in the bowels of the ship while she's still contending with the intensity of her past abuses and feelings of abandonment.
