That situation was a good example of the LI not supporting your PC - mostly because it happened really late in the game, so it was really weird to have your LI be totally surprised about your past. Only Wynne asks you more about yourself and how are you feeling about stuff.

On the other hand, it does make sense that you might not really want to divulge all the details of your highly traumatic wedding. however, I wish they hadn't decided that for us, you know? Which would be solved by having two origin-specific romance conversations-- once that can happen whenever, with dialogue options, which is presented as you opening up to your LI, and another that's triggered by suggested events if the other conversation hasn't taken place.

That's a LOT of content, though. I still want it.

yep. I was a little disappointed about the CE origin. when Shianni talk about what happened at the marriage of the Warden, Alistar said something like "what? you where married?" and one of the answers where something like "I'll talk you about it later" but that conversation never happened.

I would have loved the chance to talk to a romaced Alistair about what happened.

I feel like it might have been better that that conversation happened off screen.  Tough to offer enough satisfactory options for the PC to express themselves for it.

I really love the romances in Bioware games. I think their characters and their relationships (friendships, rivalries, whathaveyou) are some of the best, if not the best, to date.

If I could describe my own personal favorite relationship type, that I would love to see in a DA game, it would be simlar to the one with Atton Rand from KOTOR 2. (I know, not an actual Bioware game) I would simply implode if we were to have a relationship/character similar to him. Not everybody liked him which is understandable; different strokes for different folks eh? And I love uniqueness, I wouldn't want an Atton clone..but his character type would be amazingggggggg. *I can dream okay. ;-;* But alas, no cleaning my imploded self off the floors..for now.

I really liked how the LI (or Aveline if you didn't have one) came up to try to comfort you after All that Remains. That was a very nice touch.

Actually, there is a quest to meet her at the Keep to offer condolences even if you have a LI.  I'm playing through ME1 for the first time right now and I'm doing the series in order.  I'll be able to understand and make ME comparisons after that.

PS: Garrus really is awesome and since he's a LI in later games, I might have to break Liara's heart...

I'd agree on the character, but not the actual relationship.  Atton's "romance" was rather disappointing (in my opinion).  I wouldn't want more cutscenes of the love interest staring at the PC from afar, and making passes that s/he can't even reciprocate.  It was made even worse because the friggen DISCIPLE was shoved in your face while poor Atton (the actual *good character*) was pushed into the background. /rant

Still, I also am a big Atton fan :P

It would have been already enough a simple "let's talk about it" - fade to black - "I had no idea" or something like that. I find strange that the Warden could't explain about her marriage to Alistair. Ok, is a bad thing that happened to her, but she wasn't (potentially) so closed about it with strangers, like with Cailan, for example. (it was more a bitter/cruel answer, ok, but she still talked about it) so it felt a little strange she never talked about it with her LI (be it Alistair, or Zev, or Leliana, whatever)

the scene with the LI consoling Hawke was one of the little pieces I liked of DA2,

I liked that too. Wish my love interest in ME3 would have had something nice to say to me after something like Thessia.  Though as far as heavy emotional content goes, I expect my Shepard felt pretty torn up after the Ardat-Yakshi monastery quest. Either way, companions showing some concern would be a refreshing change.

You know what would also be interesting to see? Characters talking to each other about you, or in the case of a romantic interest, questioning their chances with you like in KotORII. I thought that was a nice touch.

I would love to see some personal touches, as discussed above. Small hints of concern, nothing major- I don't want to feel like they think my inquisitor can't handle themself, but enough just to say "I'm here if you need me" or an unexpected gift to cheer them up. And I would LOVE it if there was more gossip about the inquisitor, maybe a hurried discussion about their favourite colour, or if flowers would be a good idea. I love hearing companions talk about my PC's and their decisions, it makes it so much more immersive because its a reaction to direct choices.

definitely. for both. I'm not a fan of forcing a character at having certain emotion (like Shep forced care fot the kid in the dreams) but one thing is having emotion forced on the PC, another is having the companions showing concern over the PC. I really liked in DA2 the chance to choosing how to react at the visit.

someting like that would be great in DAI.

I would have been fine with how the romance played out if Obsidian had actually written romances for KOTOR 2. I thought it was cute that smartass Atton seemed unable to tell the Exile that he actually liked her (but had no problem telling everyone else, apparently.  :P  ) Although I guess it was the same for the Exile since you can tell both Kreia and Mira that you liked him like that, but not Atton himself. Sigh.

As for Disciple... ugh. His voice was the only good thing about him. I did like all the extra cutscenes between Atton and Disciple from the restored content mod. Poor Atton is really jealous.  ^_^

That was my wish as well. I understand not sharing all the details - it depends on the Tabris - but the LI blurting "Wait, are you married?"...not.

One of the reasons I really loved KotoR 2, JE and especially DA2 was that everyone was (mostly) on the same page about everything, so even if no particular conversation was triggered, comments or party banter still reflected this.

Right. Having the option to tell the person asking that you feel terrible, you're okay, or to ****** off out of your business is something I expect to be able to decide for myself. I think I'm just tired of being the mother hen in the party and making sure everyone is all right no matter what "I" as the PC have been going through. :P

The occasions where they have asked (Like LIara in LotSB, I think it was?) was, again, a nice touch. And I still giggle over Atton asking Bao-Dur about the Exile. Not a chance, buddy.

Oh, this!  Very much in agreement, it's something that bothers me.  I think the closest I've seen is being able to show some kind of negative emotion...like worry, anxiety, discouragement to Wynne about being a GW etc.  My canon is a Cousland and I really feel like it would have been nice to have had a heart to heart with someone about the fact that my family and everyone I'd known my entire life had just been brutally slaughtered, I kinda wish they hadn't put Fergus out of the game until the end, I needed my big bro!  I actually felt traumatised myself the first time I played through a Cousland origin.  That's how I felt anyway...I needed a hug from SOMEONE at the very least!

Since everyone is talking about other games and I'm bored I'll list my favorite romances in Bioware games I've played from best to worst.

Jaesa Willsaam - SWTOR

Crazy as ****. The most satisfying "romance" by a mile. I actually blushed sometimes.

Miranda - Mass Effect 3

This one I can't really explain. I didn't really care much for it in ME2, I just prefered her to the other 2 (although I admit Tali was more involved, what can I say, I'm shallow). I actually thought of not continuing the "relationship" and I tried to break it off, so she burst into crying and I instantly altf4 reloaded the game. Seriously. Don't know cant explain. And I usually pride myself in not getting moved by tears.

Isabela

Boobs? Don't care. Short pants? Don't care. Attitude? Don't care.

Hearing her say "I found this amaaaaaaazing hat shop"... SOLD! Everything went downhill from there, poor Merrill never stood a chance.

Silk Fox - Jade Empire

Need closed fist path to truly shine, but she shines.

Bastilla Dark Side

Yes please, more chicks that 90% of the game are timid and then something happens and they go nuts.

Morrigan

Actually this could be better but Morrigan is smart and the Warden is dumb and can't match wits with her. I felt like an idiot most of the time.

Well, the scene when Atton asks Bao Dur if he had a chance with the Exile was pretty cute :P.  I mean, I guess I would have been OK if at the end they could actually tell each other how they felt.  The closest we get is

Spoiler

The Disciple/Atton/Exile love triangle was laughable at best.  Was there truly any competition between the two?

yes, it would have really completed the Exile journey. But as the ending was, it seems there was more for the two of them to travel (maybe a Kotor 3?) so not real a problem. (as if a Kotor 3 with the Exile as protagonist would have came out, but it never happen  :()

Spoiler

The (almost) romance of Atton will be forever my most treasured in any videogame. stop. It felt natural, and sweet, and it evolved during the entire game  and It was really "star wars style"  :P

I am really excited this time around, because the characters seem so... Unique. They seem to have places in the game, Cassandra, Varric, and Vivienne even Solas who we dont know that well, are so unique and I really cant wait to meet them.

I like mysterious and more morally dark characters. Ambition, drive, ferocity.

So, Silk Fox, Miranda, Jack, Morrigan, and evil Bastila were my favorite. I like danger and a sense of goodness under it all. I dont know, it feels like seduction but running both ways? Compassion and love is a kind of seduction when you arent inclined, just as on the opposite darkness and power are as well.

That edge of good and bad where either of you can tip the other in that direction, seems a great nuance. At least in fantasy. In reality, nice, sweet stable romances are the best. But in fiction, they are dull.

I honestly hope their alot of detail and content put into romancing not just I'll give cassandra a gift and were a couple. I honestly want bioware to make the romances in dragon age inquisition as realistic and as fulfilling as possible. Like cassandra randomly coming to talk to me about our relationship or sera suggestion we go out somewhere I really want it to be interesting and realistic you know.
