Am i the only one that really miss the romances from BG2? I mean Aerie had my child on the field of battle, that was epic. I miss that last step in the romances, that takes them to marriage or children. I know it isn't fitting with the setting all the time, but i am a hopeless romantic.

Yes...Viconia is my favorite! I don't really need children and marriage, but it certainly helped that the BG romances are much longer than the ME or DA romances.

Rather, people need to get over this obsession with labels.

Anders likes men and women. What that makes him isn't important.

I don't understand this sentiment and never will.

Of course we have an obsession with labels, it's called language. And if they didn't exist then you wouldn't have been able to write that post, because the concept of a label wouldn't have the label 'label' attached to it.

If Anders likes men and women then he's bisexual, because that's what the word means. If I'm not allowed to say that he's bisexual because "laybewls are bhad" then I must not be allowed to look at the leafy green mass with a trunk outside my window and call it a tree either.

I think a lot of people (myself included) probably look at the Baldur's Gate series with rose colored glasses. I mean, I played it back when I was 13 and I was totally in the closet even to myself. What wasn't to love about those romances!!?!?

Going back to the game, even though I love the gameplay; I found it incredibly hard to finish the game. I enjoyed not romancing anybody well enough, but I just couldn't get over how annoyed I was that homosexuality wasn't included in the game at all. I was totally spoiled by Dragon Age. I'd be totally fine with a romanceless game, but a straight only game? Can't do it... I just ended up playing the game with a female character since women didn't have any romance options in BG :D.

Which brings me to the fact that I was incredibly excited about BG:EE. Not only were they redoing the game (New reasons to play!) but they were adding bisexual characters. I was pretty pumped. Then of course, the development decided that the only homosexual character in the whole game would be evil aligned, so I didn't buy the game.

I thought they might redeem themselves in BG:II:EE when they added a bisexual woman, but nope. She's completely amoral too (at least from the description of her.) I'm totally fine with LGBTQ people being evil (I mean, we're people too) but when you create a game where the entire representation of the spectrum is evil it just feels to me like you have an unsavory agenda that you're hiding under a mask of openness. I remember on the EE forums there were people who were complaining about the reason it was wrong to include s/s romance in BG:EE because it projects that such things are normal and moral. And I feel like the developers sided with those people. (Again, I haven't played the game, just read descriptions of it, and those were my reactions to their descriptions of the characters).

I'm just bitter because I was excited and then disappointed. Oh well, sometimes not pre-ordering is a very good thing.

I'm sorry. As spokesperson for the national leafy green mass association (LFGMA) these green organisms don't like to be labeled as "trees". What's a tree anyway? Who gave humans the right to label them so? What if that "willow" (english vernacular) has a name?

That's silly though, trees aren't sentient. People are. People are allowed to dislike being labeled. You're certainly allowed to label Anders however you want, Anders isn't exactly a real person, so he can't get upset with you. But don't act all indignant and superior if real people, who might not like labels, disagree with you.

I'm just tired of seeing people treating sexuality as this weird, surreal thing that needs to be kept hidden and ambiguous because it is 'deep, constantly changing and can't ever be understood, explained or given a name'.

It feels like it's become so detached from reality people may as well be talking about ghosts.

Also Aerie oh god Aerie. I forced myself to drag her around to the end of TOB and really wish I hadn't. And in the underdark man. *rubs temples* Least she STFU once my PC asked her to.

On the plus side, you can be super mean to her and it's really funny in that dark, just-wanna-see-what-she-says kind of way.

Jaheria with Carth Syndrome to the max,

Yeah, it really should be called Jaheira Syndrome because she was the original, "I'm getting over my dead spouse and my romance with you will help me heal...." companion.  I left the little pukey emoticon because Jaheira doesn't get her due.

Favourite Bioware romance then?

Hands down, without a doubt or question, the m/m Kaidan romance.  A-freaking-mazing to me.

I've seen a lot of people who are really enthusiastic about the m/m Kaidan romance.

What is it that made you enjoy it so much, if you don't mind me asking? I want to know what it is that makes it stand out over the other ME and DA m/m romances.

For me, it was nice because it was one hell of a slow burn. It started as a friendship, a really good one, over the course of the 3 games, before evolving into a romance in ME3. So, in my opinion, it felt more...realistic.

It should XD Carth did take it up a notch with the whole petulant teenaged kid that fell to the DS though.

Agree with what elu is saying.  I have said over and over (even before ME 3 came out) that there was crazy sexual tension between Shepard and Kaidan.  Even the intro animation for his dialogue, where he turns and wipes the sweat off of his brow and looks Shep in the eye and then it switches to Shep returning that gaze.  Ooh, boy.  They had it for each other.  Then, if you don't romance anyone else, he's the one in the opening to ME2 who Shep has to send away.  There's the whole, "Losing you is like losing a limb" thing and his genuinely hurt feelings when he thinks Shep left him behind.  Just great chemistry between these two characters.  THEN, in ME 3, Shep's panic and concern when Kaidan's injured was touching.  I see it as Kaidan realizing that he had feelings for Shep in ME 2, but didn't get the opportunity to say anything and lashed out in anger.  Then Shep realized he had feelings for Kaidan when he almost lost him.  The clincher?  When Kaidan is all busted up and bruised and shirtless and gives that slight, bashful chuckle and says, "Are you flirting with me....?"  Hot damn.  That was worth it.

Once they are in the relationship, it's just a really realistic and sweet relationship.  He's supportive, but calls Shep out if he needs to.  The whole, "Let's stay and in I'll cook you steak and we'll drink beer and cuddle" date was really nice.

I probably sound a little foolish gushing like this, but being in a really loving m/m relationship myself, it's the only time that I've ever seen anything that even remotely resembles my relationship in a video game.  It's the only time that I've ever been able to see my relationship in my favorite entertainment medium.  Just really really well done.

Now, I'm going to slink away because I'm embarrassed that I got so gush-y about a digital relationship.....!

I'm not sure I'd say it was slow burn... Shepard and Kaidan had so much sexual tension in ME1 I was shocked they didn't just tear each other's clothes off each time Shepard walked up to him.

Edit: Probably should have read daveliam's post, since, yeah, there was crazy sexual tension between Shepard and Kaidan.

My favourite romances are probably Liara, Leliana and Garrus.  I'd probably count Garrus as the best, but the other two are more my type.

Interesting. I hated Garrus lol. I do think if I had ever played a straight Shep, I would go for Liara, cause she's my other favorite companion. I love her character so much.

I'd probably say Garrus if I could play a femShep. As it is Fenris and Alistair.

Though my favorite fictional romance in general will always be Shinjiro. Shinji <3

Yeah, mine as well (except garrus, didn't romance him) since they were the only ones available to my female PC.... though they aren't exactly my types. My type of ladies are more close to Cass, Morrigan, Isabela, Viv and Ashley.
