I'm pretty sure Cullen will be straight, and he's NPC, so two other male LIs will be gay and bi. And I think it is very possible that Scribbles will be either straight or bi, and she's NPC as well...

so, at least this time gay romances won't be shoved to the sidelines?

I never said DA2 didn't, and that's why I put DA2 above Origins with regards to romances. I just want to see some diversity, particularly in regards to gay/lesbian companions, of which we haven't seen since Juhani.

I say at least one bisexual and at least one heterosexual companion because while we've had many of each in previous games I want to make sure the team remains diverse. As unlikely as all non-straight is I would take issue with it if it did happen.

And yeah, having a straight LI in addition to four bisexual LI's is still being more diverse. Unless there were already straight companions who just weren't romanceable, like Varric.

Diversity for the benefit of straight dudes...color me enthused.

Sorry, but 1 straight, 2 bisexual female companions is never going to be better than DA2 from my perspective.

It's not the diversity that makes it better than DA2 (There is presumably also a straight male LI in this setup), it's the fact that there are simply more romance options available. before everyone got two options, now everyone gets at least two options and some people get three.

There's no less diversity than in DA2 (although probably not more, because the above aforementioned straight male LI and likely other straight companions), so objectively it's better.

Obviously one gay one bisexual one straight would be superior because then there would be a homosexual female companion finally, but the uneven number of options doesn't bother me as long as no one ends up with less options than before, which they won't. All of this is assuming quality remains unchanged, of course.

They said everyone will have more than one option.

One straight and two bisexual female LIs would qualify.

...that would really suck. =/

I'd have no more options than DA2.  It would be objectively better if all three females were bisexual and then I'd also have an extra option than I had in DA2.

Liked da2 approach as it maximised companion li choice per orientation. I was never interested in notion of fencing off for representation sake. Have to say I'm very worried about that DAI won't have the same level of companion li choice, which would be disastrous IMO.

And we all know how much they need more options than everyone else.

Honestly I don't mind the whole SSSS thing but everyone should have equal options. None of this I get 3 everyone else gets 2 and you have to share mine but ra forbid I share with you tripe.

Well, the fact that some people would get three as opposed to two is kinda the issue with this. Hence, DA2's approach would be more acceptable, regardless of whether it offers less diversity.

It's not so much about the numbers than the distribution. The fairer it is, the better. DA2 just happens to provide a surprisingly easy solution to this.

How about 2 lesbians and one bisexual woman! :D

(okay so I'm trolling now, just a little. >_> Sorry... sorta).

That's kind of the point of 2/2/2 though.

Everyone does have equal options (assuming all the romances get the same amount of TLC, of course.  But that's not a guarantee under any setup)  But what everyone does not get is 100% overlap.

I don't agree with Ianamus, but that would get only one choice for some people, while his example provide at least two choices for everyone. A better counter-point would be two bisexuals and one lesbian.

I'll be honest, in my perfect world, all the LI would be either bisexual or gay/lesbian. :P So long as straight players have LI options, do they really need to have those LIs be straight? :)

Would likely be uproar again if there weren't any exclusively straight female Li's, take any small thing away from certain straight male gamers & they rage

I wouldn't mind 2/2/2 with Cullen as an extra because he'd be an extra for straight women (and possibly gay men if he's bisexual). Those are two groups who routinely get shafted in terms of LIs.

Even BETTER if they made Cullen bi and Scribbles gay and then straight women, gay men, and lesbians all get an extra to make up for the long history in games of getting less! :D

I thought about it at length awhile ago and decided that I wouldn't mind if some players were given an extra option and I wasn't. Not really.

An analogy I came up with is this: Which is better? A woman giving you and the person next to you £100, or a woman giving you £100 and the person next to you $1000?

Either way you get the same amount, so I'd say the latter. Therefore I think that males who are attracted to females getting three options and everyone else getting two would still be better than everyone getting two options.

I'd rather everyone got three, obviously (so long as all sexualities were represented), but I wouldn't begrudge someone getting more. More content is always a good thing, even if it's not content I will be playing.

The problem is that the person sitting next you always gets the $1000 every time the woman decides to hand out cash.

The only people who would get only one choice are straight guys. And they've traditionally had ALL the content. I'm not advocating for it (mostly joking, hence the "i'm trolling" comment), but honestly, I wouldn't get angry if they only gave straight guys one option.

(Don't worry, straight guys, that'll never happen. The gaming industry cares about you the most!)

Because if he gets $1000 why should I get only $100 ?

I hate this whole "Let's make the other side suffer like we suffered" thought process.

Right, that's the thing. Now if it was the lesbians who, this time, got 3 choices while everyone else got two, I wouldn't complain because they're one of the groups that routinely gets less. (It wouldn't benefit me since I play gay male PCs, but I would still stand in solidarity with my lesbian sisters). But if straight guys, once again, got more content than everyone else, yeah, I'd have a problem with it.

Regardless, all of this is speculation because we have no idea how the LI orientations will play out. :/

Except for the last one eye'd guy, because the last blind guy won't be able to find him to put out his other eye.

Just because straight players were more privileged in previous games doesn't mean we can use the same outlook on them now, that people used on gay players in the past. That's not progress. Progress is putting aside past slights and treating everyone equally now and in the future.
