Is it any comfort that it happened to me in reverse with Miranda? I prefer playing woman when I have a voiced VA but I can play any orientation. There's something I quite like about all the girlies wanting a guy but can't have him because he's gay, makes a nice change

No because I was in the same situation, I played as a woman and tried to romance her but couldn't so instead my Shephard had nobody until ME3.

Eh if he is m/m exclusive I'll just roll a male rogue and romance him that way. I have no issue playing male characters. I just wanted to see the interaction he'd get with a Quizzy. XD

I still don't like this no siree not one bit.
I will feel bad for bad for females who want to romance that guy as a female PC.

A nice change? Every single male character I wanted in a Bioware game was not romance-able. Gay straight or whatever... jkdlsjfkld He's pretty much the Bioware Clark Gable (when it comes to looks anyway), what I've specifically whined about wanting on this forum since before DA2 came out, and he's probably going to be a LI, you can't take this from me!

People are going to be disappointed. There's no way around it with the "variety of sexualities" approach. I really don't want Solas to be the gay guy, but I'm bracing for it. I'll be happy either way because if Dorian isn't bi, then Cullen might be. As long as I get either of them (or Varric or IB or Blackwall), I'll be okay. I just don't Solas as the gay guy. Please?

I think it's the "because he's gay" part that was the point. But I understand your point.

It's the I went through this so should you mindset really.
It's why I like the all bi system
no one gets left out.
Ah well. If Cullen and Solas end up being the m/f and bi options respectively that's fine. I'll probably get someone I prefer in ME4 or DA4 XD

Really? I've heard complaints from gay guys it's over-used in fiction. While this obviously wouldn't apply to this game since you could romance him as a dude, in fiction it's used as a 'safe' way to have gay characters and establish they're gay without ever having to show them being gay with other dudes. You just show them turning down chicks.

Oh yes. Those mentions of the dead ex's gender and constant mentioning of the PCs gender as though he/she would've forgotten in the last 10 minutes really livens up the romances. XD

I admit I'm sort of like that whenever someone tries to argue why FemQuisitor should get less screentime or why dude protags should get more options than everyone else but honestly that's me being snarky.
All bi system we hardly knew ye
maybe it'll come back in another game? With a smaller cast and scope? /hopeful thinking
Ah well I'll just roll a dude if Dorian's m/m and no one else appeals to me. But chances are the majority of my characters are gonna be female so XD

Well I still had to go through the inverse with Miranda and I didn't even get to flirt with her because of a gender restriction and that's just stone cold. Yeah sure whoopie dee do I had Liara... And while I admit that Samantha turning down MShep was nifty... thats mostly because Sheploo had all the gorgeous womenz already. The only "decent" human romance Femshep had was Kaidan (and I am using decent very generously here) and the guys got him eventually anyway (and you got the mods recognized while Ashley fangirls didn't get the same treatment). Really the guys aren't missing out much on Alistair trust me....

A nice change from what? I don't understand. You're implying something opposed to this situation is what usually happens, but I can't figure out what that something is supposed to be.

I don't necessarily agree with the original comment, but why are people acting as if female PCs get turned down by gay male LI's all the time? There has been literally one single example of this. I did some stats a few months ago and female PCs have access to 98% of the male LIs. Gay males have access to about 22% of the male LIs. And only one male LI has been gay. I'm not sure exactly what the last two comments have meant to imply.

I was referring to rl in a jokey way, not in-game scenarios. In life I've mainly liked guys who don't like guys back, now it's quite nice to see girls want to romance a guy in-game who potentially won't like female-perspective characters.

They don't get turned down by gay male LIs cause we haven't had any true. Gay male characters haven't been turned down by straight PCs either if we really want to get technical.
And of course there's the whole there's plenty of male LIs female PCs were interested and didn't get a choice to have.
Honestly the whole "well it's time you got the same treatment" is what made me raise a brow because honestly while fem PCs do have it better than gay males but we're still lagging behind straight male Pcs. So it really feels I don't know...it just feels like being irritated at the wrong group.

And when you narrow it down to the dragon age games, the only one you missed out on was Alistair...To this series alone exclusion by gender is more new then it is a "experience what I had to go through" thing.
Plus really it's unfair to say that because I'm sure there have been straight people who have been unhappy with what they were given with as well. It's a really bad attitude.

98%? Assuming you just did the stats on Bioware LI's that would imply there's been 50 male LIs... that number seems a little large.
Also I understand what MCG was implying now, took me awhile to sort out. Yeah gay guys probably have the fewest options out of all the Bioware fans, hopefully this game will give you some great romances to make up for it.

Totally agreed, which is why I thought the reactions to that joke post seemed odd. People seemed to take it really seriously. It's like immediately several people responded with "Well, we've had it bad already." I think the idea of turning it into a "who's had it worse" is a bad road to go down.

Sorry, it was 96%. There have been 26 male LI's and only 1 has been an m/m exclusive.

Like I often remind, whenever this subject is broached, everyone that isn't a straight dude got the short end of the stick. There is nothing wrong with discussing where and what we lack, and how badly, but playing the minority content Olympics of who has it worse doesn't often help. John received 6 doughnuts from a company, but his friends Jane and Carl have 3 doughnuts and 1 doughnut respectively. They both snipe and gripe at each other over their lack of doughnuts, and who should get something a certain way or who is worse off; meanwhile, John just sits back and eats all of his doughnuts without a care.
