When they increased the player races I am assuming this also affected the number of romance options?  Eeeeee, are Iron Bull and Varric an actual possibility??!

In a twist you can only romance Iron bull as a dwarf and Varric as a qunari.

I don't think we can judge content. Afterall, one area which is a middle sized area is bigger than all of Origins. If the scale is that increased for maps, who knows how big everything else is. Plus they've worked on it since Origins went gold. So having that many romances but them all being really deep is possible.

I was hoping all the female companions weren't Lis. This is looking more and more unlikely.

Although I wouldn't prefer it, it probably makes sense all things considered, especially given that we have less than a handful of female companions this time around. So you'd think they will want to make the most of their presence or something.

ME3 had more romances than DA:I has companions, that seems unlikely. Maybe they only counted the "full-fledged" romances in ME3 (Liara, Garrus, VS, Tali), and didn't mean the shallow ones (Traynor, Allers, Kelly, etc.)

I'm guessing 8 or 9 is most likely now. It's possible they didn't count Jack, Miranda or Thane as those people weren't party members. I'd be surprised if there was another Dragon Age game with an uneven number of romances (an extra male, but I've been surprised before).

 

We know for certain that Cole and Leliana aren't romances, so assuming all the romances are main members of the inquisition, we're looking at a max of 10.

That's likely how they'd work in racially restricted romances.

I think with the gating of romances based on gender/race, it will be fine. It'll probably end up that most people get 2-3 options (except bisexuals, who would only be gated by race).

If it really does have more romances than Mass Effect, I hope some of them are really specific.Like, in other games as long as you're the right gender you know they are romanceable or at least they have the flirt options but i'd like to see something where you actually have to work for it. Like, say Iron Bull can only be romanced by a female Qunari. If you play human, you won't see the options and wouldn't know he was available. Or Vivi maybe she is only for human females but you have to make certain choices throughout the game rather than just choosing flirt all the time. That kind of thing would be good. (As well as the usual 'easy' romances too of course)

There were 8 achievement granting romances in ME3. Even if you don't count Kelly, it's looking like 8 or 9 is now reasonable.

I'm still counting on 6. Going from "We will not be increasing the scope of romances in Inquisiton" to 8 romances or higher would be absolutely ludicrous.

But I do agree I wish things were a bit less lopsided gender wise but it seems that leliana and morrigan at least will be both very important and un-romanceable.

 

And honestly I'm still squeeing about how very badass I can make my Qunquisitor looked I had been afraid she'd have to be oddly dainty for a giant race.

Wouldn't help. The reason I said that is that content felt quite thin. Unless you romanced Garrus. But I prefer, fewer, deeper, romances.

There certainly shouldn't be race gating. It's going to be annoying enough with the gender gating. I can't believe anyone actually wants to gate content more.

True the important females we have are quite plentiful in number. I just feel odd when the only female companions are all romanceable. Didn't like it SWTOR not gonna like it in DA.

If they have a wide variety of options I would be less annoyed if they gated an option or two with arbitrary race restrictions.  I want Varric outside of playing a dwarf, don't get me wrong, but if I have three-four other men available to me when I'm playing a human I can't be that put out.  Same with the straight/gay gating.

 

I'm wondering if the inclusion of so many romances was the thing DG mentioned being against & overruled?
