I think they've said in the past that things other than gender that would gate romances. Could be race, could be choices you make, who knows.
Wouldn't help. The reason I said that is that content felt quite thin. Unless you romanced Garrus. But I prefer, fewer, deeper, romances.

We know that Cole IS NOT one of them, which leaves DHMG, Varric, Iron Bull, Blackwall, and Solas, pick 3. Hmm looks like the idea of Blackwall, Iron Bull, or Varric being an LI isn't so farfetched after all.

I don't think Blackwall will be a romance. He became a Grey Warden by choice, and really believes in their ideals - wouldn't want to let love get in the way of his duty (like my grey warden did...)
I like the idea of Iron Bull as a romance more than Varric, because Varric has his Bianca. But I also want Varric romancable for the sake of people who wanted to romance him in DA2, so they don't get teased for another full game. So I'm hoping both of them are romances. Maybe if they're both gated by race, they'll still count as a total one 1 romance for the sake of fairness, based on how many players actually could romance them.

Considering DA doesn't have a history of locking romances due to race restrictions and the vast majority playing humans would make it...illogical at best I highly doubt it. NVM the time of day and whatnot.
DA does have a history of ending romances due to choices you made however.

I don't think its illogical, I think it would allow them to stick to their characterization. There could be a human companion who looks down on elves - at which point letting an elf character romance them muddies their characterization. Unless that companion's character arc is about them learning to accept elves, but what if they don't want that to be his arc?
They could also gate them by class - in the mage/templar war, it's completely possible some companions may not want to romance a mage. Or could think mages are superior and only want to romance mages.
I don't know...not getting along with Varric? That's a big no no to brodom for my Quizzy's.
For me it depends on how they don't get along. If they're at each other's throats like Fenris and Anders, yeah, I'm going to wind up being bros with whoever didn't start it, but it's entirely possible they're more mellow about it.
