I think Gaider has also expressed that he just wished everyone would find out things as we play their games. Not before. He doesn't understand the anticipation.

But maybe he's just being humble.

He udnerstands the anticipation, he just doesn't understand why people so desperately wants to spoil every little facet of the experience before they get to play the game.

He happens to be right in my case. I just like the DA world anyways... unless they really screw it up. So it's an automatic purchase for me. But I see that some people look at it from a game to game perspective.

Fair enough. With me, though, every game is on a case by case basis. I don't need to know the whole plot before I buy it, but I need to know enough about it to gauge whether it would be worth sixty bucks and several hours of my time.

That's another way of putting it. I was being terse.

I find it fun to just stumble through my first playthroughs edit: But I already know about this than any other BW game, I think

  • Scribe Woman - Not available.  Yeah, I know, everyone else thinks she will be available and straight or bi.  I have a different theory.
  • Vivienne - Available.  Bisexual, most likely.  Could be straight.  I think she will be the third romanceable woman, rather than Scribe Woman.  She's been given an awful lot of attention for someone who's not going to be available to the player romantically.

I hope you are wrong about these two.

Probably said this before but Vivienne as bisexual makes a lot of sense and fits with her personality as presented in the reveal.

Frankly I've always viewed Mr. Gaider's attitude in this regard as being a touch arrogant. I can understand his frustration with some fans who do apparently want to know the entire game before hand, but some of Gaider's comments on the topic(not wanting to release any information regarding the companions or romances prior to release) to me sound as if he expects us to just buy the game with no real incentive and just take it for granted it's going to be good.

Oh come'on, I'm sure everyone on the Bioware team knows that we are pretty much crazy about this franchise and will buy the games no matter what. Hence why we're spending hours and hours reading this forum and cooking up theories. I think they find the whole thing really fun. They throw a bone at us and watch everything unveil. If they would say "This is companion X, this is is background, you can romance him both ways" our fire wouldn't last for so long. Needless to say, I don't think other people outside this forum give a flying cr*p about the characters or romances and buy the game based on other points of view. Like visuals or story or whatever.

The only facets I want to spoil are which romances are available to me. Dragon Age are the only games I know of with significant romance stories where I can play a gay character. I want to know how/who I can do that with because I don't want to accidentally miss the content, or get my hopes up for an unavailable character while I play. I tried going in blind with DAO. And I spent the whole game pining after Alistair. I don't want to repeat that, so yeah, I want to know ahead of time who I can romance as a gay PC. I might not be important to everyone, but it's important to me. :)

(I don't need spoilers to figure out if I'm gonna buy the game. I'm gonna buy the game no matter what.)

I'm guilty of making fun of Solas since I don't find him aesthetically pleasing. I even have a joking discussion where me and another person pushing him back and forth between being gay and straight like no one wants him to be on their team. Admittedly, it was childish, but I guess I just don't want to be stuck with just one option like with the previous Bioware games where I can only romance Kaidan or Anders, wasn't a fan of Zevran at all so no romance in that game.

I understand that. However, the way I see it is like if I were to walk into a bar... I wouldn't want to know exactly which of the persons inside were into what, and how I could get to be with each one of them. It would take all the fun out of it.

Yeah, I totally get that.  All I want to know is who I can romance.  I'd have already gone on a media blackout (or be close to it) if I knew that--I don't actually want the plot spoiled.  Though, I will say that it might be smarter for me personally to do so after how horrible I felt about the ME3 ending.  I don't even want to know HOW I can romance them, just that the possibility is there.

I hope you are wrong about these two.

I kind of do, too, because it means that the only non-companion romance is probably the straight male.  The implications of that are pretty ugly, despite all the lovely stuff they've done for representing female characters and players this year.  I also could see Vivienne as being too involved with herself, and with power, to be interested in romance.  She could be the female version of Iron Bull, though--willing to sleep with you but not to get closer to you than friends.  Unfortunately that would have horrible implications because of her skin tone, but it would work in terms of how Circle Mages operate romantically according to lore.

Yeah, I used to be a huge Alistair fan and after beginning a replay where I am actually romancing Alistair, I... just can't  see the appeal anymore.  I never cared that much for Zevran, either.  So I totally get where you're coming from.  Then again, I almost didn't romance Garrus in ME2 and yet he became my favorite Bioware romance, even though I don't think he's attractive physically at all (others do, I don't, and that's okay!).  So I totally get where you're coming from with Solas.  I kind of have issues with him myself, because my boss has a shaved head (and I don't find my boss attractive)... but Solas looks nothing like my boss, apart from his shiny head, so I've come to peace with that.

I think it has to do with expectations, if you see a hot looking guy, you would want to know if he's into guys or girls. If it's a straight bar and you're a guy, you don't need to get your hope up since it's more likely he's straight while if it's a gay bar, there's a high chance he's into men. People get rejected in real life all the time; they don't need to be reminded of it in video games, so it's nice to know what you're getting into. It's more common with gays and lesbians since most of the population are straight.

I'm still hoping for 2/4/2. That way those who want Vivienne can have her while I can have Scribbles.

The way I see it, dating in real life is not even remotely similar to playing a video game.

This is how I feel.

I've been accused of trolling and of negativity when I commented on how aesthetically appalling Sera and other companions are to me, but it's just that I also don't want to get stuck with one companion. Cassandra is one I do find attractive, and if she doesn't swing for my Inquisitor's team, then I'm completely out of luck in terms of romance. Yes, aesthetics don't matter all that much, but my complaint of it comes not from attraction or physical beauty/handsomeness, but sheer design. I personally don't think Solas, Sera, etc. are designed well. It's not trolling, it's just my opinion, and I sincerely hope more romance options are opened up, simply because, beyond Cassandra, I ain't happy with any of the companions that have been introduced thus far.

I've seen a lot of people unhappy with Sera's appearance, and I guess I can understand it, but I'm not able to dislike her appearance because her face reminds me of my older sister when she was younger...  it will, however, make it pretty much impossible for me to make any kind of Inquisitor who would romance her.

That's not a pot belly. That's what happens when a woman bends over. Even skinny women's stomachs do that when you bend in half. That's how the body works.

You hit it right on the head why I wasn't a big fan of Solas. I know a really annoying condescending and racist guy, and his bald head keep remind me of him. He was pretty obese though, so the resembling is more on the skin tone and bald head, but anything that reminds me of that guy just ****** me off. I used to like Alistair a lot, but since I used a mod to make him like male warden, he keeps using female pronounces to refer to me make me not want to romance him anymore. Maybe I could grow to love him like you did with Garrus, but atm, it brings back a lot of bad memories for me.

This is all speculation...

What I think will happen

Blackwall: Unavailable. Status as a Grey Warden would weigh down on romance prospects and is dedicated to the life being a Warden entails.

Cassandra: Available confirmed. Heterosexual most likely, but may be bisexual.

Cullen: Available confirmed. Most certainly heterosexual. I bet he's straight.

Dorian: Available. Homosexual. If Solas is homosexual, then Dorian would be the bisexual option to level things out. Or, he could be just heterosexual.

Iron Bull: Available, but I've a sneaking suspicion he probably won't be? Most likely Bisexual.

Sera: Confirmed available and romanceable by female Inquisitor.

Solas: Available. Bisexual, but sneaking suspicion that he may be homosexual. If Dorian's homosexual, then Solas may be bisexual to balance things out.

Varric: Unavailable, but due to popularity, maybe he'll return as a love-interest. Most probably will be heterosexual, though.

Vivienne: Available and bisexual.

Bonus: Cole: If confirmed as companion, he maybe available would probably a heterosexual option (hopefully not, hopefully a bisexual option, at least).

Heterosexual: 3

Bisexual: 3

Homosexual: 2

---

What I'm hoping for

Blackwall: Available. Bisexual.

Cassandra: Available. Bisexual.

Cullen: Available. Heterosexual.

Dorian: Available. Bisexual.

Iron Bull: Available. Bisexual.

Sera: Available. Homosexual.

Solas: Available. Heterosexual.

Varric: Available. Heterosexual.

Vivienne: Available. Bisexual.

Cole: Available. Homosexual. LOL Nope.

...Personally, I'm kinda hoping I could romance Cole as a dude inquisitor. Not expecting it, but I'm hoping!

EDIT; I haven't read Asunder and I didn't quite get what Cole was as a character, so... this raises quite a few problems.

Depending on your body fat, if it's between 8-10% for athletes, which I suspect Qunari usually are, there wouldn't be a big fat roll like that.

Nope. Fat makes that happen, whether you're male or female.

EDIT: @BattlebloodMage Beat me to it :D

Not really. Those are fitness percentages. A bit of fat gives you more strength and resistance, it's not optimal to be shredded if you fight. 15-19% for male and 18-22% for female are alright. I expect rogues to be lighter, but warriors can be quite bulky (and by bulky I mean bear-mode, both muscle and fat).

Personally, I would be content with character kits for all of the companions, for fan art and cosplay reference, but I enjoy speculation before the game comes out, even if it's wildly inaccurate, just because it's a fun way of socializing with other fans who share my obsession.

Knowing about potential romances is nice, but I'll either deal with heartbreak now or later, so I can wait on announcements.
