Well, i better play a Qunari then ( i didn´t want to do it) to have any shot to romance Iron bull. IF any of this is true...

I don't think you'll have to worry about Iron Bull, since he's stated to jump into bed with ANYTHING. Inquisitor will probably have the magical PC power of not breaking easily.

Alright, how about this.

I'm playing the game and I've gotten to the point of approval or whatever where one of the characters is interested in me and asks if there's a relationship developing and this is the point where I turn them down or start the romance in earnest, if I want to turn them down, do I, the player, get the option of citing race as a reason? Do I, hypothetically speaking, get the option to tell Cassandra "Sorry, I'm not into other humans. I'm only into elves." ?

Because if I do, and I'm able to reject any advances made by npc's based on race just like they get to reject me on that same criteria, then I will drop all my complaints.

That depends entirely on whether or not companions will ever initiate flirtatious dialogue with you, though. I think they said that after Anders they would be avoiding it, so I'd imagine that most dialogue that leads to romances would have to be initiated by the player.

Though after hearing that iron Bull likes to sleep around I could see him propositioning to the player, and I'm fairly sure his race would be available for grounds of rejection. Same for Qunari PC's and human/elven LI's.

Why would you be flirting with them to only turn them down for this reason? I would assume, that with both race restriction LIs and set sexuality LIs, the first flirt you did they would say, "Um thanks but you aren't my type, let's keep this professional shall we?" I don't know how the system would work, but considering these writers, I don't see them being cruel about the LIs. They would politely or cheekily turn the PC down fairly early on.

Because that's entirely realistic, that we're going to be the only person out of this diverse group of people who'll initiate romantic advances.

Yes. There is no guarantee that a particular gender/race combination will have as many romantic prospects as another.

And that's fine. Romance options are not candy to be dispensed fairly and evenly, and if there's a particular character that you've decided before the game is released that you must romance, it's advisable you play a different PC. The most we can do (and have done) is ensure that there's no overall slanting towards a particular group-- it's all over the map, for various reasons.

Will we get to know what kind of PC is applicable for the LIs?

Thank you, David. Now, if you could tell, that there will be moral choices gating as well, which to me should be the most important one.

Please tell us LI will just get the hell out of the Inquisition if we stomp on their principles.

Well if we're going for realism, I'd like it if the PC isn't the only person making the advances, because that's certainly not realistic.

Nobody has the right  to romance somebody just because they like them. Characters should be able to turn the PC down for any reason they wish, if race is their reason then so be it.

While I disagree with your position, I would like to thank you for the reply and the effort being made to ensure a lack of slanting in favor of one group or another.

That seems unlikely.

You might not be able to romance, say, Varric as a human.

Not sure how I feel about it it reads like we paid more attention to the real world situation than we did to the game world.

In this case i kinda prefer the one for each gender deal and get alot more romance from it lol J/k j/k...im just worried that i will just play one race cause that one can romance this and this...and knowing myself, this will happen :/ owell...

And if you do so, I'm sure Varric won't approve

LIES.

And yeah hopefully the companions have spines and tell the Inq where to shove it if he/she does things they disagree with. I could see Varric being an exception because he wants to see the story to the end but everyone else should really tell the Inq to get stuffed.

I would like that too. I LOVED Anders flirting with me first. It was refreshing. But look at the craptastic flurry that caused? And if you never romanced Kaidan, he initiates... LOVE IT! However for every 1 of us who love it, there are a loud 3 screaming from the rafters about it. It is just easier and far less of a headache to have the PC make the first move.

but we already have very few options...and if we'll have gender and race restrictions as well, it gets even worse. gender and race restrictions may be okay when it comes to games like the sims or other simulation games, but does it have to be in a game with only few romanceable characters?

Cassandra was a hypothetical.

Ultimately it's just a point that if we are going to be shot down for any reason, I would like the option to shoot a LI down for that same reason. I want to treat them the same as they treat me. So if there's a companion who's "Sorry, I'm only into humans", I want a "Sorry, I'm not into [whatever the given character is]" option on my dialogue wheel.
