Not something I like the sounds of & is such a swing away from the da2 approach I loved so much.
Think I'll be waiting to hear how this horrid gated cookie is broken up before letting any excitement for buying the game come anew.

Ahem, IMHO, race restriction are ineffective with number of LIs being 6 or even 7
But it would be nice if race somehow influenced the romance: make it harder to finish, start, maybe add some funny dialogue lines about height etc...

Sigh, the race gating saddens me a little, but whatever. Hopefully we can figure out the romance options beforehand so we won't be too disappointed come our first playthrough.Yes. There is no guarantee that a particular gender/race combination will have as many romantic prospects as another.
And that's fine. Romance options are not candy to be dispensed fairly and evenly, and if there's a particular character that you've decided before the game is released that you must romance, it's advisable you play a different PC. The most we can do (and have done) is ensure that there's no overall slanting towards a particular group-- it's all over the map, for various reasons.

Oh for goodness sake, my anxiety about Varric being possible has just shot up again... I always said I'd go Dwarf for him... I guess we'll see.
Lol. Once you go dwarf you never go... no wait, wait, that's not gonna work.

I would like that too. I LOVED Anders flirting with me first. It was refreshing. But look at the craptastic flurry that caused? And if you never romanced Kaidan, he initiates... LOVE IT! However for every 1 of us who love it, there are a loud 3 screaming from the rafters about it. It is just easier and far less of a headache to have the PC make the first move.
Fenris flirts with you aswell FYI lol

Ultimately it's just a point that if we are going to be shot down for any reason, I would like the option to shoot a LI down for that same reason. I want to treat them the same as they treat me. So if there's a companion who's "Sorry, I'm only into humans", I want a "Sorry, I'm not into [whatever the given character is]" option on my dialogue wheel.
Yeah, toally agree. It adds to RPG element

That seems unlikely.
You might not be able to romance, say, Varric as a human.
If the slanting is going to be fair one of the female humans is probably gonna not want humans.
Assuming Varric is restricted to fem dwarves and IB to Qunari then Solas to elves or something.

I'm really not bothered by racial restrictions at all, it actually makes a lot of sense to me.

I don‘t romance men. But straight men only have 3 females options left. Its unfair to take away viv and put her as elf only to force players to play that race for romance content .

In this case i kinda prefer the one for each gender deal and get alot more romance from it lol J/k j/k...im just worried that i will just play one race cause that one can romance this and this...and knowing myself, this will happen :/ owell...
Hey, at least it's encouraging replayability, right?....

This is my issue with it. I don't really think there's gonna be enough LIs for it. Especially not if there's only six.

Oh, I was assuming gender would be left out when making sure things weren't slanted towards one race or another.
Human males could have more options than human females or vice versa.
Or (example) Vivienne just might really prefer elves for some reason.

So i might not to be able to romance cass cause i play human. So in past games i could romance a elf and human with a human. Now your taking it away thats bs.
Cass was interested in a male Hawke, she's into humans. Stop overacting ,sigh.

I really think IB will be the omni-sexual one, if he is a LI.

Why would they restrict Vivienne to elves, though?
She's a human. I don't see how that would make sense.

Speaking strictly for myself, the romance element has absolutely zero impact on what I will and will not replay as.
One concern I had is that human/elf romances would be fine, but dwarves and qunari would be limited to Varric and Iron Bull. Aside from the problem of both of those being male options, you then create a scenario that says "Humans and elves can hook up all they want, but dwarves and qunari have to stay to their own kind", which reeks of bad implications and shoddy logic.
Gaider's latest comments have assuaged these concerns to a degree, but we'll see how it plays out.

I'm starting to think, that there will be more than six. Most of them romanceable, but with different kind of restrictions, looks more and more plausible.

It will add a realness to the game. I want to see my Inquisitor politely turned down. I am not interested in all the companions wanting me.
I plan to create alot of Inquisitors both male and female & will romance EVERYBODY.
It really should not be a surprise. The minute I knew they were going with a different game engine was when I realized this game would NOT be like Origins or DA2. And yes I can understand why it will be annoying to some but change happens for a reason.
And you adapt.

I'm alright with this. Mostly because I already suspected it would be the case.
I do hope they announce which LI's are available to which genders/races prior to launch though, so people can plan their PC's accordingly if they are fixated on a particular character.
As long as Cassandra is romanceable as a male Elf I'm content, and while possible I doubt that the race restrictions would be that stringent.

For all we know, only one or two LIs are restricted by race.
That wouldn't exactly give everyone equal choices though would it? Especially not if both LIs happened to be male companions (I do love how Fem PC/Male NPC players tend to get the "testing new ideas!" Lis. Yay.)
Oh, I was assuming gender would be left out when making sure things weren't slanted towards one race or another.

Ah.
Ugh that would suck.
That...would be interesting. I'd wonder why...
