Also try to remember that this likely won't apply to all of the LIs. Just because say, one elf will only date other elves, doesn't automatically mean that the same will be true of all elves.

Hey, at least it's encouraging replayability, right?....
I'd more think it will discourage it.

A potential side effect that actually pleases me, is that we may dodge the frankly boring symmetry system, you know, the one who says Scribby and Cully will be the bi ones cause muh equal numbers of companion LIs, etc...

Except that there are only two elves and one of them is a female only romance. So when you layer those restrictions....

Why would they restrict Vivienne to elves, though?
She's a human. I don't see how that would make sense.
Bioware might make viv only like elfs. But your right she should like other humans.

This has always been my assumption, that's also why I said Solas and Sera as bi "cuz elves for everyone"
I'm glad to see Bioware proving my assumptions wrong. 'Tis refreshing.

I'm alright with this. Mostly because I already suspected it would be the case.
I do hope they announce which LI's are available to which genders/races prior to launch though, so people can plan their PC's accordingly if they are fixed on a particular character. As long as Cassandra is romanceable as a male Elf I'm content, and while possible I doubt that the race restrictions would be that stringent.
XD I didn't. Silly me ![]()
Same. Least that way I'm not wasting my time barking up the wrong tree. And if I'm iffy on a companion I know whether or not dropping them for someone I find more interesting won't come to bite me.
I'm starting to think, that there will be more than six. Most of them romanceable, but with different kind of restrictions, looks more and more plausible.
I hope so. I just don't see how that's gonna work well with six.

I'm with you that it's possible, but it wouldn't make sense, really. Just feels too arbitrary to me.

I'm good friends with a white woman who only dates black men. Some people only like what's different.

Sera will only be into big qunari woman. Semi confirmed.

I can see it still being symmetrical in a way, but I'm with you on that. It might also hinder ninja romancing which can get confusing and muddle your current romance.
Leliana, I'm looking at you.

Quite the opposite for me. More restrictions means fewer canons that I can create.
Well, I was speaking for some of those who enjoy roleplaying different race/gender/sexuality combinations.
I forget that some people don't enjoy playing as anything other than a self insert.

WHY DIDN'T I THINK ABOUT THAT WORD BEFORE.
"Organic" is a WAY BETTER alternative to "realistic". In the end, it's always artificial, but I do belive it works like the uncanny valley: fully unrealistic or fully realistic and it works fine, but half-ass realistic and it becomes quite unsettling.

? wait...so there might be a human LI who's not into humans? Interesting.
Do you remember the Magistrate's son in DA2? He had a fetich with elves...
Although, having a romance like that would be so creepy.

Ahem, IMHO, race restriction are ineffective with number of LIs being 6 or even 7
But it would be nice if race somehow influenced the romance: make it harder to finish, start, maybe add some funny dialogue lines about height etc...
We don't know how many we are getting though. 6 or 7 is a guess. That being said let's it is 7. 2 are set sexualities, 2 are race set... that leaves 3. We had 4 in DA2 (5 if you count Sebastian but I didn't get that DLC and won't go into why here) that is 1 less than DA 2. In DA:O we had 4 with the set sexuality of 1 making it 3 unless I am forgetting someone. Why is everyone's knickers in a knot? We at the very least will be getting the same as previous games based on our preference... but it could be more because we could be getting 8 or 9 or 10. If we get to romance anyone at all with an actual story, we are doing better than other games that claim to have a romance element aren't we? We get SO much. Gender, race, deciding what the PC looks like and we get to romance someone with a story not just put on a amulet and have them say "oh you're single, me too. Let's marry". Be excited that we will have not just one, but a few choices. It's not like romance is Pokemon and you need to be able to collect them all with your first Inquisitor. This is something to actually be proud of, they are putting real thought into WHO the NPC's are on every level of human existence. The NPC could maybe even break up with you because you become morally reprehensible (my speculation only). I think that would be COOL! It makes every choice be even more of a real nail biter.

Yep.
Though we can get better dialogue in the romances I guess we can be reminded of our race every 5 minutes along with our gender?

Honestly choice restrictions are the only way I'll find the rest of this palatable. Otherwise it'd seem all this attempts to make the characters realistic and not toys for the protag and they left the biggest factor in that alone.

Cass was interested in a male Hawke, she's into humans. Stop overacting ,sigh.
No, she wasn't. That's Varric's assumption.

I like the gender gating (or whatever it's called). It feels nice to have some gay characters for once, besides your own. There really isn't ever any gay companions in RPGs. Usually just straight and bi. So this feels new to me and more inclusive, in my opinion. I'm just really happy.

I sincerely hope this is true. I'm gunning for FemQun no matter what, getting Sera would be a nice bonus. If not then I don't mind, I'll make another playthrough.

Yeah, I don't see them doing that in this game though.
It's far more likely that characters of the same race will be romanceable and the only restriction, if any, will be gender. It's what I'd expect all things considered.

I am OK with this if it means some race/gender/orientation combinations get two choices and some get three. (Or more than three. Bisexual PCs are always going to have more options than gay or straight ones.)
If some players end up with only one option, like gay and lesbian PCs in DAO, then I will think this is a terrible decision
