Yeah, it's why I wasn't originally too worried when Gaider said it. Then he started being all... negative and stuff. And it distressed me.
Don't underestimate the power of this fanbase.
If there is a will, there is a way.
He didn't strike me as negative. It's really just matter-of-fact. Romances as they are won't change, and he's not going to be apologetic for what he thinks is a good choice. Some inquisitors will have less options. That's life.
I've been more or less vocal that I don't think fairness is a good measure through which to design content, even though that as a homosexual fairness rarely exists in my favor. I'm excited that they are making sure we all have at least two options. I've mentioned before that I personally wouldn't choose to give other people extra content that I couldn't access while playing a Gayquisitor, but that doesn't mean BioWare shouldn't. Just because I'm petty doesn't mean that Bioware should design content that works with my sense of pettiness.
As Allan pointed out, it's possible that the writing team had more budget for characters this time around and that the limiting factor was Cutscene development. If IB was only available to other Qunari that's six whole cutscenes they don't have to design, if a character is straight or gay then the number of cutscenes needed is cut in half. If this step in the process was more limited then gating makes even more sense.
