IIRC, one of the producers said only 1-2 companions are non-optional.

What?

ugggh no. Not this take the person who clearly has their own agenda that doesn't jive with yours into your party for ~reasons~ crapola. If my PC wants to wreck his efforts and run the Inq into the ground you'd think he'd be allowed to or have a difficult as hell time he should. Bah.

Or wait is that just recruitment? As long as I can tell them to bounce after said recruitment whatever.

Yeah won't be getting collector's edition because of romance mess. I'm now between day one standard or discounted much later.

Yep my plan is to either pick it up at Best Buy on release day or get it off origin. *shrug*

Do people usually jump to such conclusions about things we have absolutely no real clue about?

Look, im not unreasonable, animations are hard.

But these are game designers people! Its their job to figure this stuff out. My sympathy can only extend so far.

Hell, worse case scenario, fade to black during hard to animate stuff!

As I said, I'm not sure it's the only reason. And I doubt that the cinematic designers were the ones who took the decisions.
Without knowing what happened, we can't say for sure what lead to this decision (other than animations having an influence).

Budget. It always comes down to budget. And honestly, if they down prioritized romances, I would be inclined to agree with their choice...

It's also their job to work within a budget. More animations = more money. That's the unfortunate reality.

Romance content is optional content, it's not going to be a priority to make intricate kiss animations when they're going to need the bulk of the budget to ensure the core game is as great as it can be.

Yes.

In fact, its pretty much a requirement for being a BioWare fan.

Whatever.

Its like we have gone from "Most romance options available in any DA game!" to "Least romance options available to any given character"

I really don't think there's nearly enough information to declare romance ruined, let alone the entire game.  We don't even have a full LI list, and the only confirmed preference information is Sera being exclusively into ladies.

I know I'm very late to this party and this may have been answered somewhere else in the huge thread but if someone would be kind enough to tell me, are we really going to have race restrictions in the already gender and choice restricted romances? :crying:

Edit: Has it been confirmed by a dev or is it just assumption?

Yeah, i get it.

They also didn't want to make a character model and textures for a naked turian in the Mass Effect games! So they got creative, wrote it well, and faded to black as necessary.

As i said, they get paid to be creative. So get creative.

Going by what the dev said, you can play the whole game with a single companion. Forumites take it to mean that one companion is not optional, but the rest are. DAO was the same (up until the Landsmeet at least).

Sucks having limited options or not being able to do your favorite romance with your preferred PC, doesn't it?

As far as I know, no. It has not been confirmed.

The only true confirmation we have is that the LI's have set sexualities, and that Sera is fem-only.

Oooh. WTF that's not the same thing at all.

(had me thinking I was gonna be stuck with Merrill and Aveline all over again).

I don't mind one forced companion because yeah you need someone to always be there for plot stuffs.

Oh thank the Maker for that! I don't think I could have taken additional race restrictions. Thanks for answering that for me. :)

Its starting to sound like some actually play these games primarily for the romances....

Yes. There is no guarantee that a particular gender/race combination will have as many romantic prospects as another.

And that's fine. Romance options are not candy to be dispensed fairly and evenly, and if there's a particular character that you've decided before the game is released that you must romance, it's advisable you play a different PC. The most we can do (and have done) is ensure that there's no overall slanting towards a particular group-- it's all over the map, for various reasons.

There's the confirmation.

You should have never expected the game to be exactly like DA2. New Game Engine. New Story. New Everything.  You learn to adapt.

Well, it's at least heavily hinted by Gaider that there might be race restrictions. Check be last dev post in thins thread and the last one i the Cassandra's thread.
