And you never once stopped to think, just for a second, that it might be restricted due to characterization?
No. Because these characters AREN'T REAL, and are ultimately clay to be sculpted by the writers.
Which I already plan on doing, but how can someone who wants to romance X on their 1st playthrough be sure they are picking the "right" options in CC in order to be able to romance X without prior knowledge of X's restrictions.
How can we "pick a different PC" "before release" like Gaider said, without prior knowledge?
Possibly. Our games aren't really intended to be played by way of "I'll pick the character I want to romance before the game even begins," but rather discovered organically. That said, we know there is a subset of fans who do want to do that, so it very well may happen. Whether it does or not isn't up to me, however.
Knowing who I can and cannot romance is basically the only thing I like to be spoiled with concerning the game's story.
I'm not alone in this, so hopefully whoever decides on this info's release gets to read this.

I think it's less 'Pick the character I want to romance before the game begins' and more 'avoid picking a race/gender/orientation combination that only has one (or possibly zero, for all we know at the moment), option(s)'.

While I realize that any information from a dev is suspect until one is actually playing the game, might I suggest you encourage those whose decision it is to give us that information?
Would spare a lot of headaches, on both dev and fan side.
well...lol?, and this race thing has really divided us has it not?...more then usually i mean...
As everything on these boards seems to do lol. I wouldn't say more than usually though, it's become pretty heated a number of times. I think people have kept it reasonably respectful ITT.

Ah, well. I guess I'm just going to ... bang my head gently on this desk for the next twelve weeks or so. That should distract me.
It's more that I want to know that my straight female dwarf will have more than one romance choice than that I want to know who they actually are.
Yes. There is no guarantee that a particular gender/race combination will have as many romantic prospects as another.
And that's fine. Romance options are not candy to be dispensed fairly and evenly, and if there's a particular character that you've decided before the game is released that you must romance, it's advisable you play a different PC. The most we can do (and have done) is ensure that there's no overall slanting towards a particular group-- it's all over the map, for various reasons.
1) "No slant towards" does not mean "no slant against." Could we at least get confirmation that given combinations will have at least two options?
2) "It's advisable you play as a different PC." So rather than having NPCs "playsexual", players have to be "NPCsexual"? Feels hypocritical.
3) Don't tout that we have a whole assortment of romantic flavours to pick from and then assert restriction after restriction.
4) Could we please get some news that ISN'T a limitation? Something to help put peoples' minds at ease?
Too bad? Reroll if you want it that bad.
For me anyway that sours the whole experience. Especially if I don't enjoy the playthrough as much as the other one.
But I'm not saying it shouldn't be there. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to know if you're barking up the wrong tree ahead of time. Especially since BW games do have diverse wonderful casts and a character I'm romancing I usually have take up a slot that'd usually go to someone I find more interesting XD so if I know X isn't available for romance and he doesn't interest me as much as A, C, F and G I'll drop him.

Dude.
1. Chill the **** out.
2. Some of them are previous characters that could be LIs, and I'm fairly sure that the devs wont take out the LIs that people still want, or really liked.

So they should all just be **BLEEP!** available at your leisure? Sorry, but I prefer characters with actually believable personalities and preferences. And I am happy that BioWare seems to prefer them as such aswell.

There was a bit of mess with the Sera thing yesterday, but something like that flares up every now and again anyways.
I'm actually glad we are having an intelligent discussion in here. I think this is the longest going romance thread we have had in a while.

Actually, this is pretty tame. When they announced all LI's were bisexual for DAII, that was a nightmare and a half.

Cool. Me too.

To me this basically reads: we don't want people to plan their characters out before they play the game. Isn't that the point here? Designing a role and playing it? Even if that "role" is just the player interjected into the story, I already *know* what I do and don't find attractive before I start to play the game. As soon as I see the companions lined up and have two lines of information about them, I'm already going to be measuring one against another based either on myself or my characters preferences.

Dude. Really? Blow up dolls? Wanting there to be no racial restrictions hardly deserved that type of commentary.

Exactly, "by the writers."
The writers are under no obligation to sculpt their characters to your own personal preferance.

I LOVE that you said 12 weeks! It sounds closer!

No.
No one is forcing you to play a character of a particular orientation.

I realised today that four months from now I will be deep into the game already
. I have no idea why twelve is the number where I feel it's reasonable to start looking at it as week rather than months.

Doesn't exactly mean you should just disregard the new ones straight up because you want your sexy time with Morrigan because you think she'll make a good lover.

I'll believe that when we get Lis dumping PCs over choices the PC can make that don't evolve around being mean to them in specific.
Until then...

I believe artists are under at least a small amout of obligations to their patrons.

They take suggestion from us based on feedback from the last game, but they are not obligated to follow our desires. Not in the least.
