Okay, first I read it wasn't.  Then I read it was.  Then I read DG's comments and now I'm all sorts of confused.  I would like to know if there are going to restrict by race or not.  I don't give a crap who the LIs are, but I would please like this confirmed one way or the other.

In an easily missed conversation that I didn't even know existed until recently.  I thought he was putting him/her into the friend-zone, so any romantic relationship wouldn't hurt their friendship.

You and me both.

I'm still trying to understand why both Fenris and Merrill would even have to say that they liked both men and women to become more "believable" and "realistic" bisexual characters.

Fenris is very private and a loner, other than what we see of his possible relationships with Hawke or Isabela, and Merrill doesn't have much experience to talk of, before any relationship she might have with Hawke.  I don't understand why that isn't enough for some people, or how they would have been better with more dialogue about sex.

Who said anything about believable or realistic?

Fine, how about, "fleshed out," a term which was used?

Thank you.  Although that option now isn't present for me.  Peculiar.

We can go with that. Would you say, based on one playthrough, that the sexualities of the characters were fleshed out? I'd say only Isabela's were. Not that it is a subject that has to be "fleshed out", but it goes a long way to avoid the objectification of characters.

it's common sense to expect something larger than what a human has, so no expertise needed there. Just a brain.

How is it that I, a lesbian, get this penis thing better than you?

Bigger dudes does not mean bigger dicks. Your assumption isn't 'common sense' because a look around a men's shower could tell you this. Your assumption isn't using 'your brain' because five minutes on google could explain that's not how reproductive organs work.

If you like the idea of incredibly well-endowed qunari dudes stuffing elven and human women to bursting, that's fine. Trying to suggest it's anything more than a sexual fantasy is ridiculous though.

I never said they had to do *everything* we said.  But pretending that artists exist in some kind of holy art creation sanctum with no influence or obligation is just silly.  My whole point is that nobody "owns" the story (except in some overly legalistic copyright definition of the term).  Nobody owns the *meaning* of the story.  I don't get to dictate to the artists what the story does or doesn't mean to them.  And they don't get to dictate to it to me.  Meaning making - which is what art is really about - is a process. Not property.

Not sure where you're going with all this stuff about meanings.

This line of discussion started because people were saying that Bioware are obligated to give them specific content merely because they want it. Content, not meanings.

Yes, yes it does.

Unless you are directly contributing to the game, either by way of direct financial investment or, you know, actually working on the game, your input is very, very limited.

If wanting something makes you "entitled" then you are equally as entitled as everyone else on this forum, mate.

Or "objectification", "pandering", etc...those words have been thrown around relentlessly.

We can go with that. Would you say, based on one playthrough, that the sexualities of the characters were fleshed out? I'd say only Isabela's were. Not that it is a subject that has to be "fleshed out", but it goes a long way to avoid the objectification of characters.

The writers themselves said that they wanted to "flesh out" the companions more, which was the reason for set sexuality.  Do I think that a lack of developing the DA2 companion's sexuality made them less interesting and deep characters?  No.  I could have cared less if Fenris had said, "Yes ma'am, I like boys too," because it would have changed nothing about the character.  Merrill being a lesbian wouldn't have had much of an impact on her character arc or even on Merrill as a person.

Like I said last night, if the reasons for set sexuality are for representation, then that's fine.  I managed to answer my own question last night regarding how sexuality can help develop a character, true.  However, outside of making sure that more stereotypes about non-straight folks are tossed aside, it adds little to their character.  Sera is suddenly not a more interesting person to me just because she's a lesbian, and I'm a big fan of hers.  Her character doesn't seem "more real" to me just because she has a set sexuality.

Isabela by herself was an objectification, but that fit compeltely into her character (she wanted men and women to objectify her).

Anders not telling a female Hawke about his close relationship with Karl, and just why he mattered so much to Anders? Bullsh!t.

Fenris not telling a female Hawke how Danarius used him as a body slave? Even more from the same truckload.

The only feasibly reasonable is Merrill, because she is basically mentally an overgrown child.

But still not even a HINT from any of the characters (Isabela barred). Nothing. Nada. Less than zero.

Isabela is ironically the one I am okay with, because BioWare were honest with their intentions for her.

I see the Anders  conversation as a way to indicate to the players using a male Hawke that he was available to their character.

Fenris being used as a "body slave" is in no way indicative of his sexual orientation so that example of yours doesn't really count as him withholding his sexuality from female Hawke.
