It seems rather pointless for Gaider to strongly imply this is the case if it isn't.
Yeah, this is where my train of thought is as well. It'd make no sense.
What, exactly, has been shown (not suggested, implied, or even stated, but shown) that suggests where not going to get DAO levels of romance?
One of the developers answered someones question and said that there would be romance restrictions based on race?
At least two separate regions have each been described as being larger than all of DAO combined. I can't help but feel that by trimming down those regions just a tad - so little that people wouldn't even notice - that we could have used the development resources to keep the romance department to at least DAO levels - where every given racial/gender combination has at LEAST two romantic options available to them. At the rate things are going, I don't think we'll even get that.
straight men and women got 2 options
gay men and lesbians got 1 option
Honestly we don't know what they plan to do with all of the various LI combinations. Trimming a few trees and some grass won't likely change that.
Being a lesbian, it's kinda awesome when you get one choice in a game, so I'd like if everyone got who they wanted. I'm all for everyone being happy, but even DAO wasn't exactly fair.
Gaider and team needed a boost in fan tears to fuel their crunchtime process, so he pushed the red "talk about the possibility of racegating muhahaha" button.
Oh Divine Gaider, look what you have done, most holy!
Did someone say popcorn?....
LOL oh my, well then!
Maaaaaaybe a little, I admit, I just didn't think it was that sensitive of a subject
my friend Xin knew I was joking so I assumed it was obvious lol
as for the latter, you actually made me turn red lmao
Well, atleast i can still make the girls blush trough my screen, that´s good to know
so all fun and games then, ok ![]()

To be honest I think gaider just wanted to level expectations after the comments about "more LI's than any other Bioware game" sent them spiraling out of control.
It's better we know race restrictions are in now then find out at release.
I BLOODY HOPE THEY ARE ENTERTAINED THEN

If they end up race gating, the two likeliest candidates, in my opinion, would probably be Varric and Iron Bull, and maybe Dorian w/ Qunari. I feel that those who are race restricted have a higher chance of possibly being bisexual.
My initial thoughts on it (before Gaider implied the possibility that not every sexuality/race combo will get the same amount of choices, which now occurs to me could be a red herring) were that the bisexual options were going to be complementary. For example, Cullen only likes elves and humans, the Iron Bull likes qunari and those sturdy dwarves. Then the straight and the gay LI would be open to all races. I still rather like this idea (and it nicely adds up with the amount of possible female LI's).

Sadly I doubt it's this simple.
I rather they cut down on the number of LIs and made them availabe to all races and genders but *shrugs* that's how the cookie crumbles.
So this race restriction reveal stuff… the way I see it at worst it's as extreme as one romance option per race: "You are playing a Qunari; therefore Iron Bull will be your romance. Want to play a dwarf; Varric's the only romance for you, and I don't care if you don't swing that way.", and at best it's the most evil way of hinting at an exclusive female dwarf only Varric romance, ever, lol
The problem is, I doubt the romance info will come out in full (at least in regards of the full LI cast), until they've shown the whole cast. We'll probably have to wait weeks (if not more) to know how they system really works.
If it'll happen, it's gonna be over the next month or two. I was hella surprised that they busted out Sera two night ago, on TV no less.
THEY ARE PROBABLY CACKLING WHILE SIPPING ON CHAMPAGNE
Or thinking, "Man, I should have just stayed in bed." We do have a nasty tendency of taking words like, "probably," "possibly" or "what I would prefer" as Word of God. With the whole racial gating thing, I'm not going to believe it unless DG (or another member of the DA team) says so with no room for doubt. None of this "maybe" stuff, it's going to be a yes or a no. I hope for an answer soon, as I'd rather not wait until I play the game to find that out. That would be a bit of a bad shock.
People have also mostly felt that the LI's would be fair across the board. Excluding DA2, that has never been the case. As much as I'd like it to be fair for everyone, that might be unrealistic. I've been told that I am horribly pessimistic when it comes to romance expectations, but that's really just experience talking. My point is, I think whether you are gay, lesbian,bi or straight, you can expect at least one option. Anything more than that is an added bonus but not a guarantee.

I'll say what I said at the beginning of this conversation. I am 100% okay with a particular NPC having specific preferences. I am not okay with PC Qunari or dwarves having 0 romance options due to animation implementation issues.

More then a shock imo...

It depends when they'll show the other companions and advisors (considering that some of them are LI).If it'll happen, it's gonna be over the next month or two. I was hella surprised that they busted out Sera two night ago, on TV no less.

The first word he put in his response to my question about the existence uneven number of options between races was a single word sentence: "yes."
There's no 'possibly' about it: the game will clearly have at least one race restricted romance.

And if you want to play as a straight male qunari?
Who exactly do they get if things are restricted by race?
