I was exaggerating, obviously. That would suck if you were forced into an orientation just for race choice and I really hope they don't and pray to God they don't do that.
Yeah well, thats what will probably happen as a result.

I stand by what I said. It'll be a total shock for me. It would seem incredibly regressive, and also, out of place. A PC's race was never a point of contention in the games, other than marrying Alistair if he becomes king. The only reason why then it comes up is because he knows he can only marry another noble, and that the humans might not accept a dwarf/elf Warden ruler. However, race was a non-issue prior to that point.
I can live with the return of set sexuality like Origins had, but suddenly being told that my race might not good enough as well would probably be just too much.
Agreed.
And if you want to play as a straight male qunari?
Who exactly do they get if things are restricted by race?
You understand that "race restricted" does not mean that a Qunari can ONLY romance a Qunari, yes?
It just means that Varric for instance doesn't find Qunari attractive, and therefore the Qunari player would be restricted to any of the other party members.
TA DAAAAAA!!
Cool, then he can make a public announcement about it like with the gender gating. Not some random post from another thread, but I'd like it to be officially announced. On his blog, on the homepage for Dragon Age, or an interview. Otherwise, I won't believe it. I refuse to believe the DA Team slid all the way back to 1996 (only now with LGBT characters, so there's some progress) by adding racial gating.

It wouldn't be the first time. BG2 for as much as people love the romances was actually pretty restrictive. That's not to say I think it will happen again, just that really, anything is possible.
You also have to bear in mind that BG2 had more races and fewer romances so restrictions were always going to be "more" restrictive so to speak. I don't see any particular reason why every PC race shouldn't have at least 1 option.
Um there is more to this game than the romances. You know. And the game is NOT even out yet. How about playing it before making assumptions?
Why are you even in the Romance thread if you don´t want to talk about romance in the game? :/
One is fine. This was just the name of the game for anybody but straight dudes for years anyway. I got used to it. However, I don't want them to offer multi race play, only to gut two of the races' content due to animations. (And then probably use metrics showing most people chose a human or elf to justify only having elves and humans in the future). Probably a bit on the conspiracy theory side of things, but it's where my line of thought goes.
To be fair the metrics already say that
so that's just them using their resources to please the largest audience possible. It's also part of the reason I really doubt humans being as restricted as everyone else.
Im kinda glad im in the uk now, us players will reveal the romance stuff in the days before i get Inquisition.
If there are racial restrictions, I'm thinking there might be more than 6 LIs.
It seems like they only corrected the "most romances in a Bioware game" thing because the Star Wars MMO has 21.
Did someone say popcorn?....

Off-topic, but your avi is like the perfect design for a fem qunari ![]()
Gaider does like to do a heavy-handed leveling of expectations. We often jest he is crushing hopes and causing tears, but *sometimes* it is actually for the best in the long run. Better to be unexpectedly surprised in a positive way than in a negative one. The times in the past (DAO in particular) he has spoken about managing expectations in regard to same-sex content, and that resources can dictate whether seemingly very minority achieve parity to hetero romances or any inclusion at all, has caused me to have a rollercoaster ride of feelings in Ye Olde Days. But, out comes DAO with content, then DA2 with everyone bi, etc. Point being, sometimes with Gaider where there is smoke there isn't necessarily fire. Sometimes, though, there is. All around, we should be prepared for just about anything -- and that's often the point.
Um there is more to this game than the romances. You know.
This is always the most ridiculous argument to me.
Its not exactly hard to find a fantasy game that is equal to or greater then Dragon Age in terms of gameplay. Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Dragons Dogma, Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur, Bound By Flame, etc.
The reason Bioware games are set apart is because of the romance options! Gating them is essentially removing reasons for me to play the game.

That´s one way to look at it XD

If Realism is not a good term...whats a better term?
Oh and I am sorry if I offended. I just think its great that all the companions won't instantly want my inquisitors. I have no issues being rejected.
I think it's fine to simply say that you find it preferable. A lot of justification isn't really necessary beyond that, IMO.
It works better for you and feels better. Sometimes that's all it takes and I think that that's okay. I think it works because the impression I get is that you prefer it this way because the feeling that romanceable characters are always available to the player character feels off.

He was replying to my ridiculous exaggerations.
Anyways, what if no one finds dwarves attractive? I really, really hope Cassandra likes dwarves ![]()

To be fair early game reviewers will spoil them for US players before release as well.
Or if we get a demo data farming will.

You should not have expected to be the game to be like DA2. Every game they do is different and now its even more with the new game engine.
I will play Inquisitors of All races and BOTH genders and will do ALL the romances. I don't expect things handed to me.

The term "organic" has come up a few times.

I'm not saying that will happen, just that it had in the past. I'm pretty confident they will not totally lock a race out just because they are a dwarf for example. That would just be going 20 steps backward.
That said, a lot of people have fairness blinders on and I think with the gender gating and the possibility of race restrictions, maybe complete fairness across the board is no longer a realistic expectation.

Yea, but I also think the reason the metrics say that is because they primarily market with human dudes *and* they provide more content for humans. As an example, my canon Warden is human primarily because it's the only way to be queen and really *keep* Alistair so to speak. As a related example, I felt pushed into playing a mage in DA2 because nothing else seemed to really make sense. If romances are *only* available to humans and elves, it's just going to spur people to play those more. I *really* like romances and I *really* like playing as non human races. I don't want me choosing to play a human to get a romance to be interpreted as "oh, she likes to play humans best."

IKR, i hope to make a qunari that looks like my avi ![]()

Im not expecting Dragon Age 2, im expecting to be able to have a large amount of romance options available to me regardless of my player characters race.
Not gender, not orientation, Race.
Locking off romance options because of that is sheer insanity.
I hope the romance options are fleshed out and varied between how you play the Inquisitor. For example a Pro Mage or Blood Mage character might have trouble romancing Vivi and Cassandra.
