Iron Bull's head is strangely small. lol

I'm skeptical that they would write a romance just for one race, especially one that a minority of people might even use, and then compound that by also gating it by gender. That's a lot of resources for a small amount of people. I think the romances will probably only be gated, besides gender, by certain choices you make that would make the companion turn against you either way. I don't think they have the resources for race specific LIs.

I don't think grey warden have any rules about relationships. I think our warden might be pretty close to his calling, though, which would negate his availability.

It depends what that romance is. I could easily see it being a no-strings attached sort of thing, that plays out exactly the same as a strong friendship with him would, with just a few extra lines of propositioning each other and then disappearing to go bang.

True about the Warden though. Hadn't thought of that.

If it's just a "friends with benefits" sort of thing that doesn't require cutscenes or much dialog, then I'd say it's possible. I was thinking fully developed romance.

Scribbles just makes me so nervous. Different dev team I know I know...but I really disliked both Kelly Chambers and Sam Traynor in Mass Effect. Sam, more so b/c she was billed as a 'real' romance and just...comparatively wasn't (IMO).

I hope Scribbles isn't the lesbian option b/c well, yes I want it to be Sera, but I really would like us to have gay/lesbian companions fighting at our side. Making both gay exclusive options the noncombatants in ME was ...weirdly alienating in its inclusiveness? So I hope I get to see some bad ass gay and lesbian characters kicking butt left and right alongside my inquisitor.

Yeah, I understand the frustration, but hey you can take solace in knowing that she's a more well-developed and realistic character, right? ;)

Okay, that was uncalled for, but I do understand your frustration.  If I saw a bunch of Dorian is straight posts, I'd be pretty anxious.

If Bioware is really taking note of the feedback on ME3's homosexual LIs, which I feel like they do listen to us, I think they'll not go that route again. I'm really hoping that they'll make the NPC LIs both bisexual so that everyone gets the same amount of companion romances. It may not happen, but I'm hopeful.

To be honest, even if I don't get the romance I want, I'm still so excited to be friends with these companions because I think they are all such interesting characters and that I think is the true light of BioWare characters. They make me want to be friends with so many of them, and if romance develops out of it, all the better.

You should have seen the girl who posted about "let Cass please like girls", which some idiots got up in arms about and started threatening the girl. I was honestly seeing red, and I about damn near ripped those idiots to shreds.

I know, it's funny that he's mostly being put there because of thin moustache and flailing hands, but despite being stereotypes, I'm going to keep my mouth shut because I really want him to be gay. :)

Didn't they say that the "Friendship" paths will be more expanded on as well? I'm defnitly looking forward to a great bromance with Dorian, Grey Warden and Iron Bull. And ofcourse everyone else! ^_^

This. I forsee me going up to DHMG and flirting with him, and him being all, "I'm into dudes." And then I'm sad Inquisitor. But then we become best friends while I go romance Solas or Cullen instead. And then DHMG is jealous.

It's gonna be awesome.

Or he'll just hate my guts cos my beliefs differ from his.

WRONG.

Cassandra x StabbingBooks is the original true pair. Cassandra being into table stabbing is a MASSIVE RETCON on BioWare's part. They're just pandering to trapezaphile groups.

I admit, I was one of the idiots that overreacted a bit about that, but I personally didn't threaten her and I did apologize afterwards. Unless you mean something else? Was this in the Cass thread some time ago?

And that's why i want her for my lady. D:

Because she's the most interesting character for me so far, and the only one we know (DA2, the anime etc)

But of course i'd still love her even if she was straight. It's just.... she's... Cassandra. D:

Wow really? Haven't seen such post like this.. unless you mean the 'please don't be straight' pic?

Edited for typo.

I'm guessing he'll be the gay love interest because I think Sera is going to be either bisexual or a lesbian, and I think they might want a straight elf to 'balance' that. (We've never had a straight elf companion yet.) So that makes Solas straight, Cullen bi and leaves Dorian/DHMG as the gay dude.

Of course, this is pure conjecture could be completely wrong. We don't even know if any of these people are LIs in the first place. (Well, other than Cullen.) For all I know, we could end up with Cassandra, Vivienne, Scribbles, Cullen, Varric and Iron Bull.

So a few thoughts based on your post:

*  I'm not so sure that I see Vivienne as fitting within the LI mold.  Yes, she's absolutely gorgeous, but outside of that she seems to me to be more of the "unattainable companion" mold, like Varric and Aveline (and Samara from ME).  Her haughty and superior attitude could very well be written as a "no lowly inquisitor is good enough for me" type of gal.  It's just my gut at this point.

* I totally agree that I don't see 8 LIs in our future.  That is so far above what we've had in DA 2 that the comment about resources being similar between the games would not make sense.  Although, given that it's looking more likely that both Cole and Dorian are in after being told that at least one of them wasn't, I guess anything's possible.

* I am also not really going to rest my hat on the perfectly symmetrical distributions that people are putting forward.  1.)  Just because we have 1 NPC romance (especially given that he's Cullen, who has a very strong fanbase), doesn't mean that we will have more than one; and 2.) If we do have more than one, I could very easily see them having different sexualities from each other.  Just because something "makes sense" doesn't mean it's going to happen.  Look at, well, pretty much every other game where it wasn't evenly distributed.

So, I'm sticking with Cass as straight, Sera as bi, and Scribe Girl as lesbian.  It's totally based on my jaded interpretation of past tropes in Bioware romances and I'm perfectly aware that I might be completely wrong.  In fact, I'm looking forward to being proved wrong because what I expect isn't what I want.

When talking about characters who fit the LI mold but didn't make the cut, none of them have really had "we're not good enough for them" as a reason. Varric's pining for Bianca, Aveline's pining for Wesley and by the time she's done she's moved on to Donnic, Samara's got her duty first attitude, Katsumi's pining for her ex and then for Jacob, and Vega's intimidated.

I could see Vivienne as being the first who had that "too good for us" attitude, but at the same time, it's been pointed out that she's arguably a better candidate for the defrosting ice queen storyline than Cassandra is. Likewise, given any choice would arguably be entirely arbitrary, Sera may well fall into the "in love with someone else" catagory of characters we can't romance, given we know nothing of her history.

I had seen pretty strong arguments for Vivienne and Sera being Li's without Cassandra being available by those who were expecting only four Li's; as it stands, I could see either Viv or Sera making the cut; the only thing that's really been presented to put Sera over Viv in that discussion is that Sera's an elf and elves in the main games have always been LI's. But maybe that's a trend they plan on breaking.

I do agree that assumptions of balance, especially in regards to the NPC Li's, aren't a sure thing, but I think it's the best assumption to labor under for the purposes of these discussions until we know otherwise.

It's just strange to me seeing what people are worried about with this split. I will see one person say they're worried they wont get a companion human LI they like, then another saying they have to make the elves bisexual for diversity, and then another saying they don't want to be stuck with the elves. There are dedicated fans for almost every companion that will be devastated if they don't get their option, especially for popular characters, like Cullen, Cassandra, Solas, Dorian, Sera. A lot of people aren't at all fans of NPC romances and worry they'll be stuck with less companion LIs than others.

Seems like this is bound to end in a lot of tears. Obviously a lot of people aren't going to get anything close to what they wanted.

On that, my friend, we can agree. I am still dissappointed with the fact that we haven't seen any dwarven or qunari LIs whatsoever.

Here here.
