Seriously though, I can't believe how angry some people get when others wish for characters to bisexual? It's ridiculous.
I think i remember now, it was the Cass thread... that girl posted the "Please don't be straight" pic and some thought this pic was rude and totally misunderstood the whole point of the pic.
I am beginning to wonder if race will have an effect. I think that if it's true that the lovely Mary Kirby wrote a romance it could be either Vivi or Varric. If it was Varric, it could be that a dwarven female will be able to romance him and that opens the door for all kinds of questions and possibilities.
It's also possible that Varric will pull a Garrus. "I'm not going to pretend I've had a human fetish..." or whatever he said. You could be the exception to the dwarf rule. Or he was lying to Hawke for comedy's sake, or deflecting Hawke's interest in the best way he could. I'm hoping... hoping for Varric, but I love Vivienne, too, so I'll be pleased even if it ends up being her. 8D

Can anybody trace back the roots of the "Mary Kirby wrote a romance" rumor? I've only seen that mentioned second-hand recently.
I've given my opinion on race gating.
Beyond that, I don't much care to get into it.
Yes, I do see this as an unfortunate side effect of the gender gating. I suspect that this will make them be more conservative (humans and elves, as always) in their LI choices in this and any other game that takes this approach. It especially bodes ill for a dwarf LI, unfortunately. Qunari could go either way. Some people like them, but I'm not sure if most people find them attractive (there also might be a difference for the genders here too). While I don't hate the 2/2/2 approach, I'm not going to lie to say that I think that people who are so excited for it's adoption are missing some big drawbacks from it as well.
I could more see a Qunari getting a slot if they looked like some of the female concept art I've seen or maybe like the basic male model from DA2 as opposed to the look Iron Bull has. Dwarves, I agree, are less likely.
I'm not deeply affected, since I pick the humans and elves, myself. It's unfortunate for those that were really hoping it would happen, though.

Yeah, it was asinine and they were claiming it was intolerant to straight people 
I tried my damnedest to defend her because the posts were just a little bit ridiculous. They made a mountain out of a molehill.

didn't someone already say the companions are already established in who they are? like Vivienne is Huge in the Magic circle, she was up for becoming the leader of one of the circles. Cassandra is a Seeker and right hand, Varric is Fabio etc etc. aswell it looks like alot of the characters are older than you expect, i mean we arent playing with the new kids on the block, most of the characters appear middle aged to me, so they should be pretty grounded with their own beliefs and policies and morales.

Yeah that's exactly what I was alluding to. I could see a female qunari Li given that there has been a big fandom for them since Rasaan showed up looking all sexy tiefling esque.
I'd love a male dwarf or qunari romance. But I'm suspecting that I'll just be stuck with boring old humans (elves are not so much my thing if given an option, unless there are some muscular, hairy elves out there) in the meantime!

It would actually be nice, instead of the Embarassing DAO romances, and the Emo-tastic have to prevent wrist slitting romances of DA:2, i mean come on i hope for something Mature, Smart, and Lasting if most of the party are Old enough to be Parents.

I don't think most of the companions look middle aged. They mostly look in their 20s-30s, to me. Warden is older, but nobody else looks over 40, that I remember. 
Cassandra is supposed to be within 34-45 range, Cullen should be in his mid to late 30's.

I think you're right, I think Cassandra is about 32-36
Varric should, at the very least, be in his 30s, and that's assuming he was early 20s during DA2, and I have difficulty believing he was that young. He's, at the very youngest, mid 30s, imo.
Yeah. I think the companions in general this time are a pretty good bit older than the usual party. I think it also fits with what one of the devs said in that the Inquisitior's assumed to be around 20-40 or so.

I thought only Alistair was a clueless virgin. Leliana, Zev and Morrigan all seemed rather experienced....

Yep, that seems about right.
I don't see any companions besides Sera who'd be considered in the 20's range. Varric is 39, Cullen somewhere in his mid-30's and Cass late-30's to early-40's. Everyone else within those age ranges, except Grey Warden and Solas who could be in their early 50's.
EDIT: Wow Varric's young.
