But I think this is part of the "romances will be more complex" comment. It's entirely possible that choices such as this will have an affect on DA: I romances.

That's one of the things I like about romancing Fenris.  Anders' doesn't mention it if Hawke is a mage or not, but Fenris, as I recall, notes the irony.  I'd like more of that, really.

Varric:  You know, I'm not into humans, but...

Vivienne: You're a commoner, but...

Iron Bull: I'm not into qunari, but...

Here's why I think it's really silly to argue about sexuality changing a character:

No one blinks an eye at being able to, with the click of a button, change Carver, Bethany, Leandra, and Gamlen's skin tones.  Why?  In the real world your skin tone drastically effects your experiences and could shape your personality.  However, in Thedas, it doesn't seem to have the same precedent because there isn't the same kind of discrimination based on skin color.

So, even though I hate the idea of true playersexuality, why would it matter if we did the same thing with sexuality given that there is ALSO not the precedent for discrimination based on sexuality and, therefore, shouldn't effect their personalities to a great extent.

If you are okay with one, then you should logically be okay with the other.  But, for some reason, it's only sexuality that seems to be the issue......

Though with the friendship/rivalry system, you actually could romance them still, even if they hated everything you stood for. The only thing really gating the player from successfully romancing any of them is their own choice of whether or not to romance them.

That happens in DAO! Only difference is it's acknowledged (In DA2).

Only thing stopping you from romancing someone in DAO is the obvious romance enders (much like the broken hearts in DA2). Otherwise you can gift spam/sweet talk your way into their bedroll.

And that affects her arc...how? Other than a personal impression about her?

If you think the story arc is all that matters to a character then wow. Some times a sexuality IS important to a character. Isabela and Zev are those types of characters and they would be different if they where not bi.

Yes, Zevran and Isabella make GOOD bisexual characters, it fits their personalities and it was Done Well.

I think their social status affected their personalities 100x more, than all of sexualities combined.

I think I said "most"...

If you had said most, I wouldn't take issue with you saying all.

Yes, several people complained about just that before DA II came out.

Some even said having Asian looking people from Ferelden/Thedas wasn't realistic.

They wouldn't be so promiscuous, obviously. Because all good bi characters promiscuous.

The "but" part is the problem for me. Its like all the characters have their own preference but because you are the "super charismatic chosen one PC" those preferences get thrown out the window. Also, when I say preference i'm not talking about sexuality.

You can do anything you set your heart on, Mort. :)

Someday, I shall play through one of David's romances. Someday.

I expect there will be crying.

Zevran says he's bisexual because he appreciates beauty in all its forms. Being bisexual compliments this other part of his personality.

Sarcasm, right? Because no one could possibly still be making the 'it makes sense for the promiscuous person to be bisexual' argument, right?

I never said bi characters had to be that (I very much would love Bioware to not make a bisexual rogue but knowing Bioware it won't happen)and it would be wise you don't put those words into my mouth, more so if you don't even know me.

People can appreciate beauty in all its forms without being bisexual. Are you saying that if he was hetero or homosexual, his sexuality would conflict with that part of his character?

I appreciate a beautiful woman (like Vivienne, hubba hubba!) but I have no desire to sleep with her. You don't need to be bisexual to appreciate beauty in all forms.....

I am not bisexual.  Is me saying I can appreciate the beauty of both men and women somehow undermined?

How about an asexual person thinking someone looks attractive?

I'd like to see that too, if it were ever feasible to program.

No i was making a point that Zevran and Isabella made Great Bisexual Characters because their Personalities, and Beliefs complimented that fact, regardless if you romanced them or not it was fun having them around.

While I see where you're going with this, I'm sure there are still some forms that he doesn't appreciate with his penis. One gender could have been it as easily as, say, a unicorn or a non-breached sunset.

I'm saying that I am not sure why Zevran or Isabella wouldn't also make Great Heterosexual/Homosexual characters, based on how they are presented, as well.

It seems problematic to me because they also happen to be very promiscuous and very sexually open.  Is this what makes them Great Bisexual Characters?
