But I'm not just critiquing that aspect of it. The harm it causes is just one of several reasons why people should stop looking for bogus meanings in the colour of people's clothing.

The main reason they should stop is that the meanings are nonsense.

Absurd.

You should drive to the bank right now, and write me a check giving me every single cent you own. Because guess what? The sole and only reason money has value is because it's ascribed value by a culture. By a government. It has no 'objective' value. It's valuable because we say and agree it's valuable.

And yes, there might be a few people who disagree, who don't find it valuable at all. But that does change anything? Does that render it worthless for the rest of us? Does that diminish it's use as a tool?

But you won't do that. Because you're perfectly happy to go along and agree with 'meaning' derived entirely from culture as long as it suits you. Isn't that right? Or is the meaning of money 'nonsense' because it's just valuable because people say so? If so, I'd like the check.

Yeah, I know :3

The thing is that there are many different cultures in the world and while some beliefs and values are shared by all worldwide... there is still a great diversity of belief systems

Indeed.

Also, I must ask. What is your avatar? It seems familiar but I can't place it.

Oddly enough, this type tends to be the straight female LI only. Almost implies that only males can 'warm' a woman's heart and not other women.

Yup, it happens a lot. In other forms of media, as well. Maybe that's why I can't stand the trope in straight romance at all. It's everywhere and the whole 'broken woman is healed by the powers of dick' (excuse my word choice) concept has become completely and utterly disgusting to me. I mean, I know theoretically that it is meant to showcase that love can heal and all that jazz, but the way it is told often seems to imply that a woman who is either not interested in or not capable of forming deep romantic bonds can only be 'made whole' by a man's junk.

(That's why I didn't particularly like Morrigan's romance in DA:O, even though I love her as a character. I never felt comfortable with the idea that my Warden can somehow 'improve her' by sleeping with her. I much preferred simply being the best friend she could possibly ask for and showing her that, yes, there are men who appreciate her for herself and not just what's beneath her clothes. It is so much more satisfying and, frankly, seems much more respectful to her as a person.)

The concept is almost non-existent in mainstream lesbian romance stories, not to mention isn't connected to earlier fictional works and their love of making all women out to be damsels in need of saving by a big, strong man, so that's basically the only way I can still happily enjoy the trope and the 'love heals' principle without wanting to smack something.

Nice, polite lesbian romances, on the other hand, seem to be the prevalent form. Which is sad for me, because I find those to be rather boring in fictional f/f relationships, while I would love to have more of them in straight romances.

Man, we just got the other Romance thread locked. I thought this one might last a whole day before descending into ... whatever the hell this is.

And again it started with Cullen...

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole DA:I crisis was caused by demons and spirits arguing over him

Who do you think the love interests will be?
-Who do you want the love interests to be?

I don't care "who" they are so much as what they are like.  I would like one male, with a sense of humor, some sentimentality and good dialogue.  And a good voice.  Would love a little teasing between the LI and my character.

-What sort of love interests would you like to see in the future?
I'd like a kind one and a sarcastic one and again - humor, teasing, make me laugh.  I can forgive a lot in a guy if he makes me laugh.

Would love someone who thinks my pollyanna character is too sweet for romancing and one who thinks the pragmatic, get the job done any way you can, step on whoever you need to, isn't their type.   Having someone who can be "turned" is nice, but not all of the options should follow my character around like they have a bewitched spell on them.

-What system do you think they'll use and what system do you want? (playersexual, bisexual, some vague combination, 2/2/2, other restrictions)
Personally I like combinations.  if I'm wishing, I'd go for 2 straight guys; 2 straight women; 2 gays and 2 lesbians and 2 bi. One "good" and one "not so good" But don't expect it so 2/2/2 would be nice.  (1gay 1straight /1 bi guy 1 bi woman/ 1 lesbian 1 straight) And don't expect that either.

-How many love interests do you think there will be?   4 to 6.

-NPC romances; Do you think we'll get them? Do you want them? How do you think they'd work?

Have no idea.  Fable?  not so much.  I like having the LI available for fighting along side my character, even if I don't always take them.  I like having them there to talk to between fights, walking through the city and just enjoy hearing what they say.

And they will. As I said, it's nothing but an assumption that can be turned on it's head at the drop of a hat. A first and immediate impression. A bit of information for the audience to attach to.

Just like Jack's romance. And Miranda's. and so ooooon...

Pretty much, everything is full of stereotypes.... These stereotypes need to die. In a fire.

In an attempt to bring us back on topic:

-Who do you think the love interests will be?
If 4 LIs:  Cassandra, Cullen, Solas, and Scribe Girl (I think that they will balance Cullen with a female NPC LI)
If 6 LIs:  Cassandra, Cullen, Solas, Scribe Girl, DHMG, and Sera

-Who do you want the love interests to be?
I want the Grey Warden or Iron Bull to be LIs.  But that's not looking likely.  I'll be happy with Cullen and, depending on his personality, maybe DHMG.  I'm not interested in Solas because I'm sick of skinny elves as male LI's.
While I will probably not play a lady Inquisitor, I might be inclined to if Vivienne is a LI.  She's beautiful and sounds like such a unique character, that I might be willing to play through once just to see what that story would be like.

-What sort of love interests would you like to see in the future?
I really want them to do a burly, hairy, masculine guy as a m/m LI.  They've done masculine hairy guys before (Anomen, Carth), but they were always female only.  Someone like the Grey Warden would be amazing.

-What system do you think they'll use and what system do you want? (playersexual, bisexual, some vague combination, 2/2/2, other restrictions)
I suspect that they are going to go with all bisexual again, but if there are 6 LI's, then perhaps they will do a 2/2/2 approach.  I'm expecting all bisexual though because it's the easiest to implement and would please more people than it would upset.

-How many love interests do you think there will be?
4 or 6.  There's a possibility that there are 5, though, with Cullen being the "Sebastian" of the group by being a straight female only romance.  Although, to be honest, that's purely speculation and I'm not even sure how likely it would be.

-NPC romances; Do you think we'll get them? Do you want them? How do you think they'd work?
I think we are definitely getting them.  Cullen is going to be an NPC.  I know that people are doing mental gymnastics to try to figure out a way that he can still be a party member, but the evidence is leaning heavily towards his being an NPC.  I'm okay with NPC romance, but I would prefer companion romance because it just allows more opportunities for interactions between the PC and the LI.  While Cortez was a perfectly fine romance, I will always choose Kaidan because he's a squad member and having him interact with Shep on the missions is really enjoyable (although, I admit I'm biased towards Kaidan because he's my fav romance ever).

I wouldn't like LI who would cheat on me or who would flirt with other characters if we have something going on. I can't think of anything else because it depends what kind of character the LI is and what kind of character my protagonist is

Exactly.  I'm tired of both the sex-obsessed rogue AND the sex-obsessed bisexual.  Both are tired at this point.

Yeah, as a bi woman i find it uncomfortable when it seems that the bisexual character is regularly like that, i liked zevran & isabella but is generally a stereotype i dislike alot since it causes people to say things like "that character can't be bi, they don't sleep around".

1. Cullen, Solas, Cassandra, Sera.

2. Uhm, everyone except Varric? I'm not truly captivated by anyone just yet.

3. What do you mean - externally or internally? Too vague of a question.

4. PS and I'm fine with it.

5. 4, but I hope for 6.

6. if 4 - then no, if 6 - likely. I'm fine with having NPC romances, if they are as fleshed out, as companion's. Otherwise it'd be a poor substitute. I think they'll work the same, as companion romances (or at least they should) - you'll be getting conversations that would progress your romance stage, after certain events. The only downside I see is that you wouldn't be able to talk with them on a missions.

Yeah, and it also leads people to make statements like "It makes sense for Zevran and Isabela to be bisexual,  but not Merrill or Fenris so they must  be playesexual." or "Well Anders couldn't be bisexual because he didn't flirt with male characters in Amaranthine....!"

Now, that being said, I liked both Zevran and Isabela as characters.  The promiscuous rogue isn't a bad character by itself, but it is feeling a bit overdone (especially with Marjolaine also fitting this trope too).  I hated Zevran as the only m/m option in DA: O though.  While I didn't dislike him as a companion, I hated him as the romance option.  I'm not interested in a promiscuous guy who is clearly more interested in females than males, but I didn't get much of a choice.

Speak for thine self, although I was more than a tad irritated that he was the only romance option for m/m.
