I think Laidlaw said Varric won't be romancable in one of the recent articles talking about romances. He used Varric as an example for the friendship type of romances.

What if Dorian ends up having an angsty emo side? ![]()
What if Dorian ends up having an angsty emo side?
NO NO NO NO NO
Dorian is now my pick for the token gay. Let the girls have their angsty emo nonsense.
Uncool. There's no reason to go picking on folks. ![]()
Anyway, I'm actually stuck on who I want to romance- or if I'm going to at all. I was pretty much dead set on Anders long before DA2 even came out and practically lived in the character thread, but this time around? I'm totally lost. No one's really piqued my interest at all yet and I'm starting to get worried my inquisitor is totally gonna miss out, lol.
What if Dorian ends up having an angsty emo side?
But would they do that again? They must know people would compare him to Anders if so.
If there is an angsty, emo character, it's going to be Cole given all his existential baggage, and he's the one companion we can be sure isn't an LI.

He won't, the quota has already been filled.

Yes. Thank goodness.

Hush your mouth.

What if it's Solas?
SOLAS: There was a time when I had hair...
INQUISITOR: [ATTEMPTS TO SMOTHER SELF IN VARRIC'S CHEST HAIR]
I believe that, like Tali, the accent is a fabrication.
Tali's accent cannot be a fabrication!
I used to have a coworker who not only had her accent, but her voice was eerily similar. She was in another office so I only heard her voice over the phone, which didn't help because every time I was close to burst out laughing.
My predictions:
Varric will be straight and I have a feeling he will be restricted to Dwarf Inquisitors
Iron Bull will likely be straight and likely restricted to female Qunari Inquisitors
My belief is that they are not going to devote resources to do love scenes for every race and class for them
Dorian is a Magister and in Tevinter...same sex relationships are frowned upon in the nobility. He will be the one struggling
and will be the m/m only romance
Scribe Girl...tossup between gay or bi
Solas..... tossup between Bi or Straight
Vivienne...tossup between Bi or Gay
Cullen.... tossup between Bi or Straight
As for Cassandra....Since Both men and women wanted to romance Aveline so I predict she will be Bi and available to all
Female Elf Rogue.......Tossup between bi or gay
Beardy Warden.....Tossup between Bi or straight but I am leaning toward straight
My predictions:

I highly doubt they would double restrict a romance to a specific race *and* gender. Too few people would experience the romance for them to have justified spending the resources to create said romance. Especially if the romance was only available to something other than human and male.

What if it's Solas?
It's possible!
But I'd love him anyways. ![]()
The female S/S options will not be Vivienne and Cassandra. Maybe 1 of them but not both together. This is because one of the lesbian romances WILL be the ideal "hot girl" type. Remember lesbian romances are made mostly with straight males in mind.

Do you have a link to this article or is this just hearsay? Cuz this seems like important new information. :/

Here. However after reading it I may have misunderstood what he meant. He may have been referring to Dragon Age 2.
PC Gamer: I read, recently, I think it was something that came out of PAX about diversifying the types of romantic relationship in the game. I was going to ask if some of that thinking also applies to friendship as well because obviously it’s a type of relationship that people have with the companions that’s not necessarily binary.
Mark Darrah: Friendship I think is … I think we’ve become trapped by that, the word romance. I think friendship is … I actually regret that in Dragon Age 2 we didn’t have essentially that kind of bromance with Varric. He’s not a romance, but he’s, you can hang out with him and be your bud and have that same kind of depth. Some of our, what we would traditionally call romances in Dragon Age: Inquisition are falling more into that camp where they’re not … they’re more in that friendship area.

He was indeed probably referring to DA2, NOT DAI.
Hinata, has your Byakugan gone blind?

I agree, the accent is not a fabrication but truly created through the voice actor. However, it is clear that the tone of the voice is altered in the game to reflect Tali having to wear a mask. Listen here starting at about 3:05. Sorry for going off topic though.

I overexerted it during training.

Probably too busy staring at a certain blonde.... ![]()
Its sure going to be interesting coming back to this thread after the romances are revealed.
I will gladly admit I was wrong if it turns out I was off. ![]()
I wonder how many others will be willing admit they were wrong too when the time comes.
