While it doesn't particularly effect me, I will say that I'd like either Sera or Solas to be straight or gay. I do think the bisexual elf trend needs to be bucked.

Wonder if bioware will keep to tradition with a female mage romance.

When I'm trying to think who could be LIs I'm starting to see everyone as a possible LI. Or maybe not Cole. I'm not familiar with his background but he has a mind of a child? Sounds something that probably isn't a LI.
Then read the book and think yourself.
If Cole is naive and unsocialized does not mean that he is some kind of crying baby.

Because the likely 4 companion romances are Cassandra, Sera, Solas, and the other mage guy.
Exactly 0 out of 6 that I'm interested in romancing
Glad I'm not the only one disappointed with the "likely" line-up. I'd settle for Dorian if I couldn't have IB, but since common speculation is that he's going to be gay, and I'm playing a female Qunari, well.
It's nothing against Solas and Cullen. It's just the former doesn't appeal to me appearance-wise, and the latter doesn't appeal to me personality-wise.
Also, someone a couple pages back made a remark comparing DAII's choices to choosing between McDonald's and Burger King, and I just wanted to say that is the best metaphor for bad situations ever.

Might buck that, given that we're getting a female warrior for the first time.
Then again, I'm pegging Scribbles to be a mage to finish the trinity with Cullen(warrior) and Leliana(rogue), and Vivienne might still prove to be an LI.

My speculation/wishful thinking on LIs and their orientations.
Male LIs:
- Cullen: Straight
- Varric: Bi
- DHMG: Gay
Female L's:
- Scribbles: Straight
- Cassandra: Bi
- Sera: Lesbian
Other random romance related thoughts:
- I feel like Scribbles and Sera are a shoe-in, w/ Scribbles as an npc romance (female equivalent of Cullen), and Sera as the obligatory non-human LI (being that all of the other ladies are human).
- We know that there will most likely be one non-human male LI, so I think Varric, Solas and Iron Bull are all pretty much equally likely to fill that spot. My bias is the only reason I think Varric will fill that spot. Chest hair ftw.

Well then I'm not really seeing your correlation here. Iron Bull would look like Iron Bull eve if there was a female qunari on the roster; either he's ok to have as a LI as is(which I think he is), or he isn't. Having a femqunari doesn't effect that.
Some people may not want to romance a qunari. Say there are 3 male and 3 female LI. If Iron Bull was one of the 3 and someone wouldn't want him, because he's qunari, they would have one less option in male LI, meanwhile the female LIs would all 3 be more or less human-looking. Or they could make him an additional fourth male LI, but then who would be his female counterpart? Of course everyone should have options. I just don't know whether or not Bioware would say Iron Bull is an option and if you don't like him, because of his size or his horns or whatever than that's your bad. Maybe Bioware might rather give people the option of two human/elf LI. I don't know.

David Gaider has gone on record as saying that Cole has the mind of a twelve year old boy, and that the desire to romance him among a certain portion of the fanbase is something he finds rather disturbing.

What if you can romance leliana if you didn't in origins.

Problem is, for one reason or another some people may not want to romance any of the companions. I've seen supporters and detractors of all of them.
Yes, there are reasons someone may not want to romance Iron Bull; maybe because he's a qunari and they think that romancing anything not human other than an elf is gross, or maybe because they don't find him attractive; the huge muscles aren't for everyone and he's got a rather...we'll go with rugged, rugged's a good word...rugged face.
But there are several people, men and women, on these forums who've been calling for him precisely for the reasons why others don't like him. That sword cuts both ways.

They've said that isn't going to happen.

Sounds like someone clearly didn't read the book. Cole saw people having sex in the tower and had no concept of what they were doing.

So PW's possible LI character is either bi-l, or ******-lIf it is Male LI and we have three m and three f LIS, then...Cullen, unkown and Weekes' unknown LI.Cullen - likely hetero-lWeekes' - bi-l or ******-lUnknown - bi-l or ******-lThe only way he writes female LI if he writes Scribbles, then she is bi-l or ******-l. Then either Cassandra is straight, or Vivienne/Sera...Why do I even waste my time trying to figure this out?
Where the hell did you even get that?

I feel you. In DA:O, I romanced Alistair and Morrigan for PLOT, but my third Warden was single, and in DA2, while I romanced each male option across three games, I had to tweak my original Hawke concepts multiple times to make it "feel" right (from a roleplay/narrative perspective)Glad I'm not the only one disappointed with the "likely" line-up. I'd settle for Dorian if I couldn't have IB, but since common speculation is that he's going to be gay, and I'm playing a female Qunari, well.

That being said, I was more satisfied with my Hawkes' romances in the end than I thought I'd be when the game launched, so I'm hopeful that Inquisition's romance roster will pleasantly surprise me with personality and plot relevance.

And I don't have a problem with that. I'm totally cool with someone saying "Solas doesn't look like what I want in a romance." The Warden and IB don't look like what I want in a romance. Different tastes are fine.
I get a little more annoyed when people are like "I just hope it's not another gay elf!" and complain about tropes that don't really exist.
Elves: Merrill- bisexual, Fenris- Bisexual, Zeveren- Bisexual which elf NPC hasn't been bisexual? The elves are fey. It would be nice to have a queer love interest that wasn't an elf.

The romance system and most of the love interests are still up in the air, so I thought we could use a dedicated speculation thread to discuss all things romance related. For example;-Who do you think the love interests will be?-Who do you want the love interests to be?-What sort of love interests would you like to see in the future?-What system do you think they'll use and what system do you want? (playersexual, bisexual, some vague combination, 2/2/2, other restrictions)-How many love interests do you think there will be?-NPC romances; Do you think we'll get them? Do you want them? How do you think they'd work?
1. Cullen, Solas, and Dorian (mustache guy); Cass, Sera, and Scribe Girl
2. Cullen, Beardy, and IB; Viv, Sera, and Scribe Girl
3. I don't have any particular special requests
4. They'll use: 2/2/2; I want: playersexual
5. 6
6. We have them; I don't mind them, but it was a harbinger of doom for me, knowing that romances would not be playersexual; it pretty much proved that we would have 6 LIs and the 2/2/2 spread, and the set sexualities were later confirmed (if not the 2/2/2 spread).

Well, I need to redo my hypothesis on whose available to who. I'm going with 8 LIs so that each orientation has at least 1 companion LI.
Females
Cassandra: Heterosexual
Sera: Bisexual
Scribbles: Bisexual
Vivienne: Homosexual
Males
Solas: Heterosexual
DHMG: Bisexual
Cullen: Bisexual
Grey Warden: Homosexual

Ok, so, now he's got the mind of a thirteen year old boy.
Honestly, even if he has the mind of a fully grown adult come the game(which I don't think is going to happen), I find people wanting to romance him to still be somewhat creepy. People got to know the character by reading about him in a book in which he had a child like mentality; what about that is attractive?
There's also a point that, if he changes too much from his book incarnation(and he already has to change a lot to even be functional as a companion), what's the point of including him in the first place? You've essentially made him a completely different character.

It would be a miracle if he did. He never touched another human been, excepte when he killed one. He never spoke to anyone about the meaning of what he saw. We don't understand things out of nowhere, people need communication to know things. And Cole was isolated for years.
