The Urn-quest was strange. There were many good things there and a nice difficulty, but caves can be a little tiresome and the gauntlet is also a good idea, but most of the time I am a little tired when I reach it and just want to get over with it. Still a very good story arch.
I love the feeling of the Deep Roads, but I hate the last part. Those golems were just a pain and that strange machine with 4 heads - I still don't get it. From now on I will play the deep roads without a stop to camp and just enjoy how many dark spawns attack me. Its just pure GW feeling.
Denerim's back alleys were boring. Same for the dungen crawling at the Brecilian forest... why undeads in the middle of werewolves? Somehow this part didn't fit.

Agreed! My guess is that since your city elf has the option of not giving a fig about Nelaros in the origin story, they had to use Shianni instead. But my city elf character's heart would have stopped if she saw him. Similar to how my Lady Cousland reacted... I cried real tears at that part, both when the Guardian asked her if she had betrayed her parents and when she saw her father's shadow.Sandtigress wrote...

Favorite area is definitely the Gauntlet. The emotional reveal of your companions and especially of the PC, from being questioned by the Guardian to meeting shadows of your past and yourself, is always a highlight for me. Plus I find the mountaintop and the temple areas beautiful. Dragon and all.
With my Dalish elf, I thought this part was great. It actually fell kind of flat for my female City elf though. I would have gotten more impact had it been Nelaros instead of who it was. It will be interesting to face this scene with my blood mage who doesn't really care about people though.

The four heads thing, you kill the spirit guarding each anvil, then activate the anvil to destroy part of the rotating head. First blast destroys the eyes, the second kills the head entirely. Must be done eight times (twice for each head) with you sometimes having to run to a different anvil to get the head that needs killing. If your party follows orders and only attacks who you attack, its not too bad. If they don't (which mine never seem to want to even if its in the tactics) it can be more of a pain in the butt.

Sadly I was doing it right as it seems, it just took me so long I nearly lost any kind of interest for that quest. I thought I made something wrong so that I had to fight it longer...<_<

Most liked would be the Brecilian Forest, although not strongly...I have a semi-uniform level of affection for the game beyond the bits I don't like.

Also the Docks of Lake Calenhad: the music, the scenery, yet again the creepiness... perfect.
Yes! I love Lake Calenhad, I tend to go there when I need to sort through my inventory/skills etc.
I love love love the music and the Tower background. It's sort of creepy and romantic at the same time. It's my favourite area.
As for my least fav, I don't really know. The Brecilian Forest is kind of boring (not the quest itself, but the woods).

The Ruins/Lair of the Werewolf does nothing for me, on the other hand. Sure, the encounters are different--or would be if you didn't get the undead you saw in Redcliffe already. But really, I just didn't get this gigantic Temple by itself in the middle of the woods. Why not vary the Woods some more and keep things in there? It felt to me like someone said, "We've got to have a dungeon crawl!" I don't see a forest spirit and werewolves even LIVING down there.

Heh, I must be weird, I like the Fade. And I love the Deep Roads, it's where I most feel like a Grey Warden. I can sense my PC thinking, "So this is where everything will end, hmm?"

You know, I was thinking the same thing abou the Deep Roads. I just wish they weren't so long.
With the Ruins, I didn't find them that out of place, but I started with the Dalish origin, where you find another set of old ruins from an early age, full of monsters. Imagine that. That, plus the fact that there have apparently always been werewolf rumors floating around (ala Dane and the werewolves) it didn't feel like an idiosyncrasy of any sort. I chalked the undead up to a weakened Veil, as always seems to be the case in the game. The one weird moment for me was fighting the dragons there. That felt a little out of place, but oh well. It is the Dragon Age after all, I suppose.

My least favorite is the deep roads. Something about being underground, yes I know that is not logical. I actually like the mage circle and I agree with the person who mentioned the gauntlet. I've tried to take everyone there at least once.
There is something particularly oppressive about playing underground for an extended time. I felt the same way about the Underdark in BG2. On the literal bright side, getting outside again once that part of the game is over is always a pleasure. The long underground section appears in a lot of fantasy games, possibly because the developers like Joseph Campbell, possibly because they're just thinking of Tolkien and Moria.
I wouldn't mind the underground bits so much if they weren't so dull. And they don't have to be. Shale's home-town was stunning - I enjoyed just wandering through it. If only there was more to do there.

My first time, I had all four altars glowing, and still couldn't figure out why it wasn't working. Then I accidentally clicked on one, and it totally blinded one set of eyes (No more guardian). That's how I figured it out. PITA indeed.

Regarding my favorite part of the game, hmm, well, nothing really stands out. The only thing that stands out, and in a bad way, is the aforementioned Fade.

Unfortunately, no. However if you give a certain female in Redcliffe enough gold for the family sword, Bann Teagan will marry her in the epilogue.Monica21 wrote...

Meh. I don't want him to marry her. What about meeeeee???? ;-) Seriously though, I can see Bryce Cousland (RIP) arranging a marriage between him and my PC.

The deep roads felt somewhat repetitive to me. The scenery was practically the same for 3 large areas, with the same few enemy types throughout. The last parts of the deep roads were certainly great, just didn't really favor the beginning areas.
In order of most favored to least, I would probably say:
Brecilian Forest - It's got a few great encounters, notably the hermit, the great oak (Who doesn't like rhyming trees?), the fallen hunter (even if it was short, it had the most immersive options imo.), and the lifegem. Overall it felt like the most immersing area of the game.
Deep Roads - As stated above, the beginning was a bit too repetitive, however the later areas were good. The broodmother sequence was one of the best horror sequences I've seen in a long time.
Ancient Ruins / Haven - Though no matter how many times I play through I can't justify siding with and helping such an obvious zealous nut, the gauntlet was a joy, as well as most of the ruins. (Still don't know why there was the random beast though... How did they even get it there?)
Denerim - Had some interesting people to talk to, as well as the alienage, which I found to be fun to traverse. However the tiny areas and constant load screens took away from the whole.
Redcliffe - The area never really fit with me. Maybe it was just the fact that no matter how I played through it, I wanted to strange Isolde then send her to Connor so I could strangle her again. The castle had a few good encounters, but I didn't like how you were forced to walk into obvious traps in some areas. (Such as walking into a hallway littered with dead bodies that even a child would have figured would get up and attack as soon as you got half-way down the hall.)
Circle Tower - The fade was simply too long with such basic fighting options, not to mention if you went in as some classes you would be completely raped. The tower itself was alright, not considering the rather unchallenging encounters.

Funny. I'm quite sure every area has now been named at least one time as favourite, and at least one time as most hated.
I guess this is one of the reasons this game is so great.
Personally, i love the deeproads, though i hated it in my first and second playthrough. ^^
I actually like most areas, fade is okay too. It just feels a little lonely without your companions.
The areas i really do not like are those in-house quests in Denerim... the alienage orphanage, or the hideout of these really mean bloodmages... god I died about 15 times in there...

I absolutely hated this quest line up until I got to the dead trenches and beyond (not much of a dungeon crawl person). I come in and I see some dwarves dishing out some awesome on a group of darkspawn while the archdemon is flying overhead.
I remember I went across the bridge expecting an easy fight, after all the legion was on my side right? I stealthed my way to the front, putting the party on hold, not realizing that even though the darkspawn couldn't see me, they could see my party. I went about my business, disabling traps and stuff, looking to see what I was up against. I see that giant horde of genlocks at the end of the bridge along with the shreiks and ogres, then I turn around, and my whole party is dead. Definately not good for business. I managed to kill all the darkspawn singlehandedly with my trusty long bow from afar, and my stealth whirlwind combo when they tried to gang rape my PC. When I managed to kill all of them many health poultices later, my party revives, and I walk back to the legion, presumable to ask why the hell they didn't back me up. Next thing you know as I approach them, the leader lets out a battle cry and the whole legion runs across the bridge as if to fight the horde that I just defeated.. I was mad, but proud of myself.
I felt really stupid after that stupid trap room with the poison air and golems. I wasted so many health poultices in that room, not knowing that I could have easily disable the trap.
Least Favorite: Orzammar
I get headaches when I'm in Orzammar, and I was thankful to see the light again when I finally left. I hated having to run back and forth between areas, it took me a whole day to get through Orzammar (and that's not including the Deep Roads). I frequently had to change areas (Commons to Dust Town to Commons to Tapesters to Diamond Quarters to Assembly to Diamond Quarters to Harrowmonts to Diamond Quarters etc.) and coupled with an ass-long loading time = very frustrated gamer. Ugh.. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it...
