Looks great. I hope they're sticking with it. BioWare produced some awful cover art for Mass Effect 2 and 3 (standard editions), so it's good to know they can still create great looking covers.

It's not only the arms and the back, but also the hands. All these things look very male to me as well.
As its said above, i think its psychological. Nothing on the inquisitor is gender specific so we lean towards male due to them being in armor that isnt an armored bikini.
But really look at it, the hands arent big or small, the person isnt particularly bulky or thin, and the design of the armor itself is practical rather than preoccupied with distinguishing what gender they are. One might associate armor like this with men but in actuality its gender neutral.

Shame they're going for ambiguous this time.
I was hoping for another beauty contest poll disaster like what we had for Mass Effect 3's alternate covers.

Mike tweeted about it an hour ago, actually.
It's deliberately ambiguous, "an uncertain gender was absolutely intended".
THANK YOU!
Can some of you people please stop insisting that it can't be anything but a male? Given how long some of us have been begging for a piece of cover art with a woman on the front, we finally have something that can be either male or female and some of you are trying your hardest to ruin the party.
I saw a female when I looked at that, some of you saw a male... I was happy, you were happy... Leave it!

Wow, I really liked this cover image, did not saw the dragon at first, wich made it even more epic when I saw it.
What location of thedas would this be? That many rocks and sea could be the wounded coast near Kirkwall, and the boat reminds of the boats on a gameplay trailer that, if my memory is right, belonged to the red templars. Or it could be just a generic place for awesomeness.
Anyway, great job on that Bioware.

The DA team has more sense and better judgement, clearly

Truth be told, I don't like it. It's nice artwork but I would have preferred them sticking with the blood-splatter stylized into the shape of a dragon theme. Preferably without a character on it at all.

Its the green silhouette in the middle of the cover you can see the shape of the dragons head in the mass of demons

I really like it. One as a fan, I like how even though it features the character, it doesn't spell out who that character is besides them being important. Only race really ruled out is dwarves because they are fat.
Speaking as a marketer, its quite useful in that you have a "character" to put on things as a central theme, and they did a good job making the character look unique. I don't think a lot of people realize how important something like that is.
Also, does that mountain range look a lot like the concept art for the castle we saw like 13 years ago or am I drawing lines where lines don't exist?

The "bald" head looks more like a helmet to me. There's a dark T shape in the center that looks like the face opening of the inquisition helms we've seen.

Trust me, I'd love to see this cover art as ambiguous, but I simply can't. I could maybe get over the bulky arms and back, but I just can't unsee that huge hand he's stretching towards the sky. I've never seen a woman with hands that big.
For me personally, they failed at making the Inquisitor look ambiguous, but at least they tried and ist a step in the right direction if you ask me.

Also quite a significant move away in terms of colour palette. That's pretty ballsy. A lot of brand managers don't like to change that up.
