Shame they're going for ambiguous this time.
I was hoping for another beauty contest poll disaster like what we had for Mass Effect 3's alternate covers.
And hopefully we won't have to see this **** back in the next Mass Effect again. ![]()

I think psychology is just playing a trick on you man.
Because it doesn't look overtly female, it therefore looks male.
Most likely. It's sort of like when people saw Samus Aran in full armour before her gender was revealed; most people assumed Samus was a man. Now if you look at her in full armour, you can't help but "see" a feminine quality to her battlesuit, even though it looks exactly the same.
Looks nice I guess, personally would like Inquisitor riding dragon.
Demons: Let as in we fairies.
Inquisitor: Nope.

The demons make me think of Brian Froud's work, and that's not a bad thing.
Really loving the color and composition here, nice ethereal quality. And of course really nice how vague the Inquisitor looks... Honestly my first impression was a woman, but could be male. Probably human, but in that armor could even be elven. And now I'm going to spend too much time wondering if there's any significance to the Inquisitor's power looking like a dragon and noting the scenery's resemblance to Tevinter architecture in WoT, though it's probably all just there to look cool. ![]()
Trust me, I'd love to see this cover art as ambiguous, but I simply can't. I could maybe get over the bulky arms and back, but I just can't unsee that huge hand he's stretching towards the sky. I've never seen a woman with hands that big.
For me personally, they failed at making the Inquisitor look ambiguous, but at least they tried and ist a step in the right direction if you ask me.
Not to sound rude but i guess thats just too bad for you. I dont see the hands as particularly big (not to mention plate gauntlets will give that look) and it doesnt seem like many others are having an issue seeing the ambiguity :/
The reverse image is cool!
Weak cover, especially with the inquisitor facing away from the viewer. Not sure why they did that. DA:O was much more striking.

I like it. Impending doom, magic, flaming sword, detailed background, androgynous main character... all nice things ![]()
The only downside for me is to see a human (maybe elf?) again. Qunari could have been pretty awesome and unique.
Wow, I never noticed the dragon. That's a great way to keep the dragon silhouette in the series.
A dwarf would have been far cooler than a qunari.
Someone over on NeoGaf created a negative of the image to make it easier to see the dragon, and then someone else recoloured it red (sorry if already posted) - thought it looked pretty cool. I LOVE the boxart, definitely my favourite of the series, kudos and thanks to the artists/designers. And to me, the Inquisitor looks female ![]()

Wouldn't it be apparent with all these comments about gender that facing away from us would keep it ambiguous.

Its a good picture, but it tells you nothing of the game.
Something like that is better for a special collectors edition.

I think my problem with the DAI cover is it's just too busy. I prefer simple yet striking; DA:O's cover was much more eye catching, in my opinion.
Aaaa never would spot that thing, even tho the 1st thing I saw is those two mysterious people in the back. I love the art, I wonder what CE will look like, most of the game do two different ones.

Agreed, blood splattered across a game cover can send the wrong message, almost implying that its main focus is killing rather than the true goal which is telling a story. If The Last of Us had blood splattered across its cover, people would think of it differently
Dragon is a Negative space trick, like the arrow in FEDEX.
Really liked the Box Cover and that sneaky dragon, Great Work.
Well, it's clearly sexual ambiguity, because the person on the cover is masculine, it's just not obvious which reproductive organs they've got.
Oh my god, it took me ages to see the dragon *facepalm*
Any way it looks amazing, I like the gender neutral aproach and personally I think it might be Solas and iron bull in the corner, not Viv.
It's confirmed to be an ambiguous gender Inquisitor so the argument is pointless. You see what you want to see!
It's obviously dwarf ![]()

Even a heavy emphasis on red can do that because its such an aggressive colour.
It obviously tells that there is combat involved, but the green implies its more about mystic stuff then hacking limbs and bleeding people dry.
