My first reaction was: "wait, is that femquisitor?"

Most people seem to think that it's pretty ambiguous. I agree that it could be either male or female and I approve. Very nicely done.

The rest of the cover is awesome too.

To add my own opinion to the matter, I thought it was a woman too first time I saw it.

Nice touch by BW to leave it as ambiguous, although as this has been stated as intentional by Laidlaw I'm not sure why people are still arguing about whether the figure is male or female. BSN gonna BSN, I guess.

I'd love to see all the concept art that didn't make the cut...

To be honest that inquisitor could even be an elf.

Or it could be a qunari(with the horns tucked in) ready to reeducate some mages tbh.

Reeducate.

If you catch my drift.

I really like the look of this cover.

There will always be people that don't like something. You just have to ignore the people who always complain just to complain.

Very true. Could actually be a qunari with no horns at all (I hope we get that option in CC).

It strikes me as generic bipedal.

I have a friend who used to do some bodybuilding/fitness competitions. You know where they pose and stuff. Looking at her you'd never guess. She was never particularly ripped or bulky, but damn if even a few adjustments to posture (bit of a turn here, drop/raise the shoulder a bit there) didn't make her look like she was jacked.

The first time I saw this art I was blown away.

I also thought, "Is that inquisitor male or female?" So I think they did a great job with the gender ambiguity. Awesome art.

I love the cover. I saw it and immediately thought I was looking at my Lady Inquisitor. It really looked gender neutral to me. I mean...they could fit Cassandra into that silhouette, so, it doesn't immediately scream 'dude' to me. The waist is fairly narrow, and the shoulders aren't overly broad. I love it so much. I want a poster of it on my wall.

I think the Problem for some of us is rather that the male interpretation is very obvious while you have to really look at it from a different ankle to see the possibility of it being a female as well. Apparently some people thought the inquisitor was female when first looking at the cover while I and some others immediately saw him as male... with slightly ambiguous features.

It's really a question of Interpretation and so far no one had a very extreme opinion about it, so please don't overexaggerate it already. No reason to start anything.

Right now I think it's a good thing the picture will be very small on the actual box - the farther I roll my chair away from the screen, the more I see the ambiguity.

It looks like a bulky man is wearing bulk armour. Not a woman wearing bulky armour.

Looks like a man to me as well, especially the upper body. Too big for a woman.

Weak cover, especially with the inquisitor facing away from the viewer. Not sure why they did that. DA:O was much more striking.

I actually like this one than the one in the OP. It doesn't fall into the cliche posters.

OMG, how have you people not scene it yet.... RED, BLUE, GREEN  :o  :o  :o

Seriously though, the cover is kinda cool but clustered for my tastes. Amazingly detailed, but Clustered IMO

When I saw it I thought "So the Inquisitor can Dragon Punch with their special hand? Shoryuken!"

It's also kinda funny that the Inquisitors right hand saves the world, & People said he/she was using it too much   All that "HARD WORK" has paid off...   :police:

Looking at someone from behind doesn't automatically make someones gender difficult to see.  On average you can usually tell a man from a woman from behind.

If they were trying to go for ambiguous, maybe an out of focus robed figure might have worked better.

See any resemblance?

blueorange500_229.jpg

While it's not bad, it's just nothing special in term of color contrast (Orange/blue). The demons look cool, I guess.

I actually feel that the cover art looks quite the opposite of any of these. I really love the cover for Inquisition because it's so different than most video game covers right now of "main character facing forward in some generic action pose". The Inquisitor has a reason for the pose, and the entire piece really leaves me wanting more.

I also LOVE that the team has gone in a direction with the Inquisitor that it's not DEFAULT MALE. It's really great that the entire idea of the main character is whatever the player chooses, and not falling back on a "default canon look".

The dragon silhouette is also mega slick. I opened the full image and was left saying "that is awesome". A++++ to the art team

The inquisitor is definitely human though. They're too thick to be elf, too small to be qunari, too tall to be dwarf. The composition of the poster looks generic. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's just not something we haven't seen before.

I like how they follow the tradition of making a dragon silhouette be composed of people if you look closely.

In DAO it was Morigan and the warden
DA2 it was people in Hawkes life
DAI its mostly spirit/demons, but as someone posted you can see what appears to be vivian and solas. There maybe more.

I also like how the dragon is the dragon we've been seeing in all promos.

The only thing I am disappointed in is that it is no longer a red, but understand able.

Also quite a significant move away in terms of colour palette. That's pretty ballsy. A lot of brand managers don't like to change that up.

Yeah this has me slightly confused. I know people far more experienced and knowledgeable than I are working on this project and probably know what they're doing. But it seems odd that they're moving so far away from such distinctive brand recognition.

Though it's a very clever piece of art, it looks distinctive and at the very least doesn't include a grizzled white guy glaring at the camera. I'd definitely take a look at it if I were just browsing through games.  I really do love the design, I'm just curious to know why they deviated from the traditional.

Expecto Patronum?

The content there immediately suggests major plot developments to me - like beyond veil tears. Probably incorrect assumptions on my part. I dunno. It just seems like a really explicit cover, rather than the blood splatter dragon or whatever.

"It's a male!"

"It's gender-neutral, you..... you!"

"It's obviously a woman, people."

Can't we just all admire the Cloud of Doom or the dragon or even the Inquisitor's flaming sword? I mean, the art on this is beautiful.

There's no reason to bicker about the Inquisitor's gender on here, because it is what it is. Now, I could find better reasons to criticize this cover, as in the fact that it refrains from using the 'blood-artdirection' we've come to know and love from previous games (which I am fine with, to be honest), or the fact that this Inquisitor is obviously not a dwarf or Qunari, and that a warrior seems to get the most love here.

But you know what? In the end, it doesn't even matter. Because each and every buyer will look at the cover, go "Oh wow, that looks great! Love the ominous cloud of demons an- oh! A dragon! How clever!", open the box, put the disc in his/her console or PC to play the game. And then we will all make our own character, of a gender, race and class we want, and enjoy the wonders that the product will have to offer us.

The artwork is beautiful. The Inquisitor on it is beautiful. And for all I care, it's Flemeth standing beneath that cloud.

I don't care for the Inquisitor's design (looks quite plain), but the rest of the cover looks real nice.
