There certainly isn't a bright tone to the Asari's future from ME3, is there? Outside of Extended Cut small bits, I guess.
Unlike the krogan, the asari have scientists ![]()

At this point, no one does anymore. Mass Effect technology is something everyone knows about. Even if the sources of information are destroyed, there's no good reason why these civilizations cannot build and improve upon what they already use and what still exists by the story's conclusion.

Where would they be if they never had that beacon? It would be safe to say they wouldn't be number 1 without that beacon.
The days/weeks part certainly is. As is the amount of damage for either the Asari or Salarians. Hell, most of the stuff brought up for the Salarians is unknowable within the confines of the game. You're telling me facts, but not relevant data about the humans and Turians. What isn't canon is how late in the war the Asari or Salarians were invaded. It's never mentioned at what point in the war either are invaded. And there is no proof at all for the last statement. I won't deny the possibilty, but I will deny the liklihood. The last paragraph is the only relevant one, and the only one I'm acknowledging as complete headcanon.
I was referring to some of the planet descriptions. For example...
Agessia: Rife with volcanic activity and scorched by the nearby orange star Nahuala, Agessia is an unforgiving and ever-shifting puzzle box of a planet. Ceaseless solar winds and magnetic bombardment have thinned Agessia's atmosphere, but these features are actually a boon in wartime. Powerful magnetic fields and large quantities of airborne volcanic ash make many forms of scanning difficult, allowing the asari to hide valuable palladium and molybdenum mines needed for the war effort. Agessia's sheltered underground colonies remain untouched by the Reapers, at least for the moment.
They defended some of their colonies comparatively successful as well (Cyone and Lusia for example). Samara also sends you a message if you have the datapad app. She says the Reapers have been driven back from a colony she helped defending.
As for the days/weeks part, I admit that is headcanon. There are only a couple of mission after Thessia, but without knowing how long the Reaper War lasted, we have no way of knowing how many people died.
Unlike the krogan, the asari have scientists
They don't "need" the beacon to make technological advancements.
But they do need it to stay ahead of the curve. Now that they're on equal footing with everyone else, we'll see how they really fare.
More than likely, the salarians would surpass them rather quickly. No time for dancing. Plenty of work to be done. Research, test, retest. Always new task to complete.
You've said that in your post-war galaxy, you'd keep Reaper tech to research for new advancements. Similar situation with the Asari keeping that beacon (which is not itself a problem so much as making it illegal for anyone else to do so and not sharing that information when the whole damned galaxy was on fire). I suppose the closest equivalent in RL is development of nuclear technology - it's OK to have it, but when dicking around with something that dangerous, others have a right to be concerned (and informed as to what's going on - sort of like (remote) concerns about CERN creating a black hole). Iran, for instance, claims they only want nuclear energy, but pretty much everyone believes they want it so they can make nukes (what with their repeated threats to annihilate Israel). If Iran were seeking to build a liquid fluoride thorium reactor (safer, cleaner, cannot produce fissile material for bombs, can produce the (extremely rare, extremely valuable, and non-weapons-grade) plutonium isotope used in RTGs to power deep-space probes), I'd support their efforts. But they do need it to stay ahead of the curve. Now that they're on equal footing with everyone else, we'll see how they really fare.
With all the Reaper debris floating around the loss of the Mars and Thessia archives is trivial.
