I always imagined my Shepard living on the Citadel for the most part, which would kind of make sense for the spacer kid. I guess it helps that the station will likely remain in the Sol system for quite a long time.

But anyway, since my Shepard survives, I imagine Liara would have to deal with the shenanigans for a while longer.

My first Shepard is watching the heavens back on earth as he lies under a pile of rubble, reaching with one arm towards the sky and with a tear running down his face whispering, "We w-...."

I'm pretending that my Shep survives and everyone lives happily, blah blah, because hey I can! She forms a relationship with both Tali and Garrus filled with robot puppies and terrible dance moves.

The ones who have it hardest..... well:

I romanced Steve. I'm always so torn when it comes to the endings, as I want my Shepard to live. Widowing Steve -again-, after his husband died in Ferris Fields, just seems extremely unfair. And yet, if I do the Destroy ending, Joker loses EDI.

I suppose the double-widow(er) situation is similar with anybody Shepard may have romanced in Mass Effect 1. Shepard died at the beginning of Mass Effect 2, and dying at the end of Mass Effect 3... means Ashley/Kaidan/Liara loses Shepard twice.

It makes my heart ache just thinking about it. No matter how the game could end, somebody ends up losing their significant other.

Just another example of the writers really didn't think these endings through at all

Or they did think it though and decided that hard choices were OK.

Dying on a LI twice?

Leaving behind a LI who only just got over a dead husband?

No, this is something more.  Something darker.

Lack of presenting those "hard choice's" precise consequences somewhat refutes that. Where's the eulogy for EDI, the less savoury measures to "protect"/"lead" the many with an armada of kill-bots as well as their minions, and the at the very least transitional problems that as invasive and instantaneous a process as Synthesis pose?

Since I pick destroy and my Shepard lives, I figure that my LI, Liara will do the "gift" (complete mind copy) just before Shepard dies of old age, and have a young Shepard clone waiting to receive it, and there would be enough Shepard clones to last her entire life. She will never have to be without Shepard, and Shepard could live for 1000 years.

To be fair, BioWare does pride itself in tough choices. In many ways I love how complex the ME3 endings are - after all, look at how much debate and discussion they've made!

While I get frustrated with difficult choices, at the same time, I do appreciate them. If an RPG makes you pause and think about an action, it's a good game IMO.

They wanted dark, tragic endings and were gonna ram them through whatever we thought.  Screw choice.  Screw backstories.  Screw Shepard already spending two years dead.

They hadn't considered that maybe some people didn't want that.  That maybe killing the protagonist off gets old after a while.

Well, in the Control cases, Bio was right to stay away from getting into any detail about the Sheplyst's future actions. ME3 really didn't need any more autodialogue than it had. The right way to do that would be a playable segment, but then we get into a real resource sink. Same thing for an EDI eulogy, on a smaller scale.

But if you want to say that Synthesis wasn't thought through..... actually, I've always suspected that they tried to think it through, but never came up with an acceptable specific vision.

Except that they didn't kill off the protagonist, of course.

I think Joker gets it the worst. Especially if you pick destroy. He loses his entire family during the war. EDI is all he has and when that red wave hits... no more EDI. Do you concede to the Catalyst's will, betray everything Commander Shepard is suppose to stand for, just so Joker can keep his love bot? I'm sorry Jeff, but Hackett said it best "...dead Reapers is how we win this."

Seven out of eight.  And the eighth is only a hint.

I feel totally justified in rounding down. ;)

I'm sorry but Ashley/Kaiden/Liara/Corzts in my opinion are the one that have it worse. They either lose their first husband in ferris fields or Shepard twice in a row for Ash/Kaiden/Liara. Yeah in my mind I never heard that story of the Asri killing Joker sister. So she got off in a evacuation ship with the women and children... At least to show some hope, in a story you need stuff like this too happen. You don't beat people over the head with the dark and depressing story lines all the time. You need to at least add some hope for the story characters I get that in wars **** happens but we see that part in the Citadel with the refuges coming in by the dozen every day. We do not need sad and depressing moments all the time to show we are in a war.

Okay, Destroy Shep first...

As far as I'm concerned, it's her mom's search and rescue that finds Yoshimi Shepard on the wreckage of the Citadel, along with a few surviving reaper prisoners. Yoshimi's rushed onto the ship, where she's given emergency medical treatment. Her amp and omnitool are both malfunctioning, and eventually have to be removed. Her muscle control never recovers entirely, and the heavily augmented Shepard spends the rest of her life with tremors. Her mind's still intact, though, and she's reunited in short order with Kaidan. Since she's no longer physically capable of being a Spectre, Yoshimi retires to help the recovery effort. And adopts kids, gets married to her Spectre boyfriend, and has a pretty happy life. She stays in touch with her old friends, and if she has any regrets, she never voices them.

And in the case of my control-Shep, EVERYONE GETS MARRIED. Kaidan and Liara got married. Joker and EDI get robot married. Ken and Gabby get married. Heck, maybe even Jack and James get married (THIS IS MY HEADFLUFF DON'T JUDGE). Eventually, even Garrus stops sulking over Shepard's death, and later, gets married to Tali.

And none of them (except EDI) ever know about the AI in the Citadel that's watching it all happen with a vague monolithic sense of approval.

Totally following Gare-bear's plan. Ykno, after he casually digs my Shep out of the rubble and have her go under intensive medical treatment ...they'll retire  to someplace.. warm and tropical. Live off the royalties from the vids $$$. turian-human baby improbable but adopting/IVF-ing one human and one turian child is close enough.

Due to the mess the Reapers left behind everywhere probably feels pretty 'warm and tropical' lol. but damn as a city girl, forget the beaches, id do anyyyything to live someplace like Illium or the Silversun strip, even when retiring

The only tough choice I encountered at the end was whether or not to play honest and shoot the brat in the face, knowing it was insta-fail, or go with the only other palatable option, Destroy.

Control and Synthesis were non-options for me. Might as well have not even been there.

As for Shepard/LI - they're on Earth, somewhere quiet. Somebody else's turn now. Apparently.

My canon Shepard is the host of a game show produced by the new "family-friendly" extranet Cerberus network. Its kind of a combination of "Ninja Warrior" & "the $250,000 pyramid"

Kai Leng, Cereal Killer, Vase Filler, Mega Troll Extrarodinaire was supposed to kill Liara or the Virmire Survivor?

That would have been something I suppose. As the game was it was hard to take him seriously I still laugh when I shoot his gunship and he tells me "The real threat is in the room with you" Do you mean my squadmates? Or wait did you mean the beacon? Or are you talking about the dead scientists I could get a disease from them.... Oh you're talking about yourself. Isn't that just precious. Whose da widdle wannabe cyborg ninja yes you are, yes you are.

I imagine my shepards funeral playing out.

I'm commander Shepard and this is my favorite will and testament on the citadel. First to Ashley J. Williams. For her years of loyalty including Horizon I bequeath.... A boot to the head. And to my darling love Samantha Traynor I bequeath my apartment should it survive this war and my entire bank account should it not and my dogtags. Also all remnants of my armor and helmet. To Vega I leave my collection of model space ships and a boot to the head. And one more for Ashley. To Garrus Vakarian my oldest and dearest friend I bequeath my massive collection of level 10 firearms.... and a boot to the head and another to Ashley. To Jacob and Brynn in celebration of their upcoming nuptials and for letting me be the Priiiize. I bequeath A coat hanger.... and a boot to the head. And one more for Ashley. And finally for the Normandy which has served me and my crew for several long years I leave it to my hamster. Oh and give my fish to Javik and a boot to the head. And one more for Ashley. And lastly for my Volus Lawyer I bequeath Tali to.... hack your... olfactory unit into your .... What? OH GOD THE SMELL!!!

Because you encouraged this...
