Oh so where done with the Harry potter stuff? In fact I doubt it would be open season on Magic users. I think you down play the fact a war like that would bring the Muggle's and the magical community together in more ways than one. When you see death eaters blowing up bridges full of Muggle's you'd expect them too do something about it? No Voldemort wouldn't get Osama bin Laden done to him. They would send a magic user against him. The Muggle's would get protection spells for their leaders I would think the purge of magic users is kind of pushing it. As we've got witches today even like those whom practices Wicca. We don't purge them, I use a lot of their techniques in my side job as a paranormal investigator for cleansings

Missed the point entirely. I'm not talking about average joe civilians, though there would be bigots and fear mongers among them as well (and how do you expect the Church would feel?) I'm talking about how some people at the highest and most hidden levels of government would take a threat bigger than nuclear weapons, bioterrorism and chemical warfare all put together potentially coming from a teenager down the street. Forget the war. Voldemort doesn't matter (beyond being used as further justification for what they're capable of doing). The mere existence of these powers in seemingly anyone is a bigger threat than anything we currently have or could have for centuries. It's actually a bigger threat than most superhero universes because while some superheroes may be stronger, the circumstances in which they got their powers are often unique or accidental, hard to recreate and typically a one time thing. The closest "natural" example that's similar is X-men mutants, but they're nowhere near that uniform in terms of power levels or even organization.

And you want to talk about Voldemort, sure. Let's look at him. Now here's a dude that had a shitty upbringing and fell into a bad scene at school. Where would he have ended up without magic? In a gang perhaps? Killing and stealing and raping on the streets? Or how about shooting up his school? Why not, he's clearly a bad apple. Now what would happen if we gave our real-world bad apples the ability to teleport, mind control and kill with a single word? What if we gave them time-turners and cloaks of invisibility and giant snakes that kill with their eyes? Are you sure you want to live in such a world? I sure as hell don't.

And sorry no offense to Wiccans but bringing them up here is downright laughable. I respect Wicca as a religion people can follow but don't tell me they have powers. They don't have powers any more than my priest literally feeding me the blood and flesh of a god every Sunday. The purge wouldn't target symbolism or ideology. It would target an actual, genuine threat.
