it's not about doing wrong or right. it's about not telling the difference. he wouldn't know that killing is bad if Rhys didn't slap him in the wrist. then again it may be evidence of Cole being child with undeveloped sense of morality or that he's an abomination.

 

i don't care about Cole much, i just dislike abominations (he might be on or not, i like the idea that he is). giving mages bad fame, that lot. if he's a follower, in one of PTs my PC is going to be his BFF.

his abilities are odd (and too OP for a party member), they resemble those of spirits more than mortals. or maybe he's some kind of mage whose inborn talents went sideways. and that would totally change my opinion of him.

The only blood magic Cole's used in a battle situation was trancing out some templars so they wouldn't react as he killed them one by one.  So far his abilities are related to stealth, but in a fight he always melees with a dagger.

 

Just having magical abilities doesn't make him a mage anymore than having magical abilities made Fenris a mage.  Templars have some magical abilities and they obviously aren't mages either.      Cole is literally a spirit rogue.  He has blood magic abilities because he's a Fade entity.

 

Mr Gaider said that those of us spoiling ourselves here shouldn't expect to see someone there's been no hint of so far.  Considering there's been no one else hinted for the last rogue spot aside from Cole, I think he's got the best chance.  Cole was listed as a rogue companion on the old survey.  And he's a major character in a novel setting up DA:I, so it isn't like the character was swept under a rug.  He also fulfills the "spirit" or/and "unusual" companion that's always on the roster. 

 

In a game dealing with the Fade and a demon invasion, someone like Cole would be very relevant.

But throughout the book he struggled very often with controlling those abilities, and still got heavily knocked about in the real world and the fade. Him killing the guards at one point near the end of the book took so much concentration and focus from him I'd imagine it'd be impossible to do in the chaos of battle. Then his recovery after it staggered him horribly. I always personally figured his fighting style would be that of like, an arcane rouge. We haven't gotten one of those I think, so it'd be really fresh and interesting to see how they have creatively set up a fighting style like that.

This is another reason why I'd love to have him as a companion now. With the veil breaking down, there's no better time to introduce a companion that we can learn about spirits from.

I like the sound of Cole. Makes me think of One of Many. Demon rogue with childlike mentality, very morally ambiguous/evil, invisible when he wants to be.

Now, I know nothing of Cole other than what I quickly read on the D.A wiki (working my way through The Calling at the mo), but it sounds very possible to me that he'll be the last rogue companion. Mainly due to his involvement with the mages and Leliana.

As stated earlier, just because he has magic, doesn't mean he NEEDS to be a mage-class (in regards to Fenris). We have yet to see a mage/rogue combo, so that'd be interesting.

Also, with regards to the 'it wouldn't make sense to introduce him if you havn't read the book', well, I disagree. I assume the iea was that you wouldn't know his histor/background? Did we know any of the other companions? Take Fenris (again). Crazy elf warrior rocks on up, glows blue, shoes his hand through a guys chest, and asks you to help him. I don't remember him stopping to tell you how he got to Kirkwall or how he has magic.

Plus, Cole's fanart makes him look appealing lol

Completely on the same page with you, there was even concept art showing this elf a few times but i doubt they'd put two rogue female elves in one party

I'm almost certain that this is an early concept of Sera. Rhodes did a concept of an elf that looks extremely similar to this one waaaaay back when, it's on his blog. I'm guessing that the team didn't have a concrete idea of what her character would be, and this was more of a placeholder than anything while they were getting layouts done.
