1.) Redcliffe... get our ally against the immediate problem: Loghain.
2.) Redcliffe castle... oh wait, he needs mythical dust to revive him? Never mind, let's build our army.
3.) *origin-relevant location... start with familiar territory.
4a.) Brecilian Forest.
4b.) Circle of Magi.
6.) Orzammar.
7.) Haven ... okay, so maybe the mythical dust was real. Support or not, though, we've still got our army.
And I typically pick up Shale after Redcliffe castle, getting Zevran on the way there.
* If none apply (HN, CE...), go to the elves in the Brecilian Forest, with the intent of stocking up on elfroot so your herbalists (Morrigan has it by default, iirc) can make you a glut of health poultices for the road.

Lothering
Dalish
Haven or Circle - changes based on mood
Orzammar
Redcliffe - last to wrap up with the arl quickly and killing Isolade because I never go back to the circle
I don't even go into the chantry in lothering anymore since I don't want to talk to Ser Donnall who is of no use to me and always sends me to the worst place to go first... I mean really... THE WORST PLACE because you don't even get an army and can't revive the arl, have to still go to have AND have to go to the circle if you don't want to kill the shrew or her demon possessed kid. And who wants to leave there to go to the fade to save the shrew? My maker... NO WAY!

Orzammar first.. I generally like roleplaying that the dwarves know more about darkspawn than anyone. Plus, the vision after Lothering shows the archdemon in the Deep Roads. Oh, and I meet Bodahn. So yeah, dwarves it is.
Redcliffe or Circle, depending on whether I side with Templars or not (I find it easier to justify siding with Templars, if I see what a mess the Circle is at first)
Dalish Camp last.. at least with my own Dalish characters, they're kind of weary of that forest until they get some closure with Tamlen.
lothering
dalish (there is only one tricky combat actually, when you emerge from a water into a wolves den)
dlcs
circle (stat boost)
orzammar
redcliffe
haven

Enjoy your triple lifetime ban and day in court for this scandalous, rogish behaviour.
Mine tends to go:
- Lothering
- Personality location (this is either the origin homeland (eg: going to find the Dalish) or wherever my character would go 1st (Arl huh? They're important. To Redcliffe!)
- Locations of my main party members (so I can get decent stats into them early)
- Rest in the order of easyness
I think one time I played it realistically, going to places as I encountered them (eg: Lothering -> Brecillian -> Denerim -> Warden's Keep etc)
Some copy/pasta (yum!) from the other recent discussion on this topic (because this one is too lazy to type it out again and yet post, I must
):
I don't have a set path, but I usually do something like
- Kinloch Hold (since it's pretty close to Lothering and I'd rather not deal with Alistair's daddy thing right off the bat and I want to have the mages all lined up for the next arc AND the Fade stat boosts I'm an awful metagame-y person yes I am)
- Redcliffe (Again because of location/travel. Sometimes I swap Redcliffe and the Circle.)
- Honnleath (again with the proximity)
- Sacred Ashes (stupid running from one end of the map to the other and back again that makes no sense) with
- Warden's Keep (somewhere in the middle of all the SA running around)
- RTO (on the way to the werewolves, and with just Alistair and Dog in the party)
- Brecilian Forest
- Orzammar (sooooo far away)
- Denerim/Landsmeet/endgame (once again with the ridiculous mappy back and forth)
Last time out, though, I did
- Kinloch Hold (annulment)
- Warden's Keep (Redcliffe avoidance)
- Redcliffe (lots of bad stuff happened)
- Honnleath
- Sacred Ashes (all the ridiculous running from one end of the map to the other!)
- RTO (just Alistair and Dog in the party because that's how I roll)
- Orzammar (always sooooo far away)
- Brecilian Forest
- endless endgame blah blah blah
Where I go first depends a lot on what origin I'm playing... my Tabris Wardens always make straight for Denerim after Lothering. My Mahariel headed for the Dalish. I play mages a lot, so going to Kinloch Hold right away makes sense for most of them. Only poor Cousland has nowhere special to go. *sad face*
Lothering
Orzammar
Circle
Sacred Ashes
Redcliffe
Dalish
It really depends on what background my champion got and how I want his personality to be.
My lastest I decided to play as a Elf mage who was rather selfish and very proud of being mage. So my quest order was the following:
Lothering.
Redcliffe: I decided to abandon the Village since my champion only saw it as waste of time
Mage tower:
Redcliffe Castle: Now that the damage on the village have been done and the road is cleared for me.
Brecillian Forest
Orzammar
Sacred Ash
Denerim.
*This is without taking all the dlc content into account. ![]()
** My questline changes as i've said earlier depending on how I want to play it out. this also include on who I side with in the quests.
Always DLC first to enjoy the nice XP pool before starting.
I tend to get The Circle out of the way first because its my least favorite and don't want to dread that the whole game ![]()
Then from there, it's usually The Dalish (Unless I play as a Dalish, then it's there first), Orzammar, then deal with Redcliff so I can literally head straight to Denerim to slap around Howe. Snivelling little turd that he is
I have several Wardens, but the order of the main quests is pretty much the same with all them. ![]()
1. Lothering
2. Shale DLC
3. Redcliffe (save the village, and deal with the undead, charmed guards in the castle)
4. Circle of Magi
5. Redcliffe Castle
6. Dalish Camp
7. Orzammar
8. The Sacred Ashes
9. Denerim
I complete other DLC's before doing Landsmeet, which is similar to how I play DA2 - play Legacy and MotA right before the final quest in Act 3.
Lothering
Circle of magi (for attribute points and Wynne)
Redcliffe
Sacred Ashes
Dalish
Orzammar
Landsmeet
End blight.
Normally i do all the sidequests i can get after Lothering before heading to the circle and the rest i just do inbetween the other mainquests as they fit.
After Lothering, my favourite choices are:
Circle of magi (Atribute points and an spirit healer)
Warden's Keep and recruit Shale
The Dalish elves
Orzammar
Return to Ostagar
Redcliffe
The sacred ashes
The Landsmeet.
Circle: almost always the first, because it is by far the easiest to do right out of Lothering. Mages are irresistibly drawn by the Staff of the Magister Lord and the Cinderfelses.
Honnleath, RtO and Keep, because the Warden's power post-Circle is still somewhat limited.
Mages hike to the Dalish next, for Dreamsever and the Black Hands.
The rest in any order, except for Redcliffe.
General mopping up, to be completely ready for the endgame when going to Redcliffe. Chantry robes get unmothballed.
Redcliffe is always last, because it is the most difficult and because it flows naturally towards the Landsmeet (can go directly to the Denerim estate in the final convo).
