With the orlesian civil war , The mage-templar war etc, you'd think there wouldn't be droves of men/women available for the inquisition's forces so where the hell has the Inquisition gotten it's army from, do you think?
Who is supplying the Inquisition with soldiers?

My guess would be wherever they can get them, the companions seem like a hodgepodge so why wouldn't the army itself be also made up of people who want to help the cause of the Inquisition? Picked up through helping them through a system of you scratch my back I scratch yours, saving villages/cities, hired hands, people who follow the same ethics as the Inquisitor.

Initially - very few. Splinter group of a torn apart group (Chantry/Templar/Circle/Mage/Other)
Eventually - probably EVERYONE. Leaders from all over, either in cooperation with you, or at your service.
For all we know, the Inquisition may be the foundation of a new Thedas main nation/organization/rule/empire.

saving villages/cities, hired hands
i think so as well.
A spear is superior to a sword. Its reach, simplicity in use and training, manufacturing. So yes i believe even common folk from a next village can join us in this conflict.
Mercs. Such old organisation as Inquisition have some resources i believe, so i expect mercs as well, although you can't expect them to die for some goal or idea, they still should be good enough.

I read speculation that the group of soldiers with Cassandra and Leliana at the end of DA2 form the basis of the Inquisition. Throw in the Chantry loyal Templars and Mages who have nothing to do, Sera's contacts, Iron Bull's mercenaries, city elves offered the chance for a better life by joining, and when the Orlesian civil war is settled a legion of Chevaliers from whoever you supported.

I feel a big part of the game will be deciding how you'll be bolstering your forces across the game world, and in what way. Maybe some tough choices regarding it. By the end, you'll have some sort of real army.
I can't wait for main quests that may involve dealing with Orlais' Game, btw ![]()

I'm thinking it'd be cool if a large chunk of the army consisted of ex slaves, Circle mages wishing for freedom, those kinds of people. I have been watching a lot of Game of Thrones.... ![]()

Yeah, Cassandra and potentially Leliana being part of the Inquisition really implies that the original supplier of the Inquisition is what is left of the Chantry's forces. Neither of those women are ones I see abandoning Justinia, especially now of all times.
After that, as others said you'll probably get soldiers from the factions you help.

I imagine we're recruiting our own.
Hopefully the peasants and soldiers of the world realize how petty and pointless the other conflicts plaguing their land really are and decide to stop fighting for such meaningless causes, and come rally behind our banner.
If not, their leaders' heads on pikes should prove to be motivation enough.

You mean things like equal treatment and rights? Those kinds of 'petty and pointless' or 'meaningless' conflicts?

Compared to stopping an invasion of cosmic horrors from beyond the veil of time and space?
Yes. I consider all conflicts meaningless when measured against that.

My army would consist of lots of Templars, knights, chevaliers, chantry agents and loyalist mages.

Veterans, mercenaries, Seekers, ex-Templars, mages, dispossessed peasants, city elves, and such.
More importantly, what is supplying the Inquisition with money and food?
#22

It's a Mercenary force I'd assume, initially supplied soldiers likely either come from the Chantry or some other Institution and additional support and manpower is likely acquired through out the game.

The Inquisitor visited Kamino before the game starts and made a deal with the cloners to provide him with soldiers. It will explain why most soldiers will look like each other.
