In a number of fantasies and historical romances, when someone from a lower class background has an unknown father, the father will be something more dramatic than another servant. This trope even made it into Catwoman one time; I recall a storyline where we learn that Selina's father is not some regular blue-collar drunk, but Carmine "The Roman" Falcone, head of the Falcone crime family.

For all we know, Leliana’s father could turn out to be Gaspard.

My own preference is that she’s the child of two servants and that her mother left her because she didn’t want to raise a child, and she knew Lady Cecile would provide for her.

Well, it kind of IS too late. They can't put another romance in the game within 3 months until release. I mean, let's face it, while romance may not be the most important part of the game it has a pretty big influence on everything, and is quite complex in terms of dialogue, animation, cutscenes, and so forth.

 

Not that I wouldn't want it, though. Delay the game if you must, BioWare

Yes, popular characters from previous games will be brought into new games. Because of the false consensus effect though, people will believe that a specific developer liked the character, not that many people did.

I suspect that the original wording is correct. If she's straight, people will be unhappy. If she's bisexual, people will be unhappy.

Though if she were a lesbian, I agree with Eirene that would be hellish in terms of backlash.

1. People just don't want to understand that companies want (and need) to make money and that one of the best ways to do that is to bring back the most popular characters.

 

2. I sincerely doubt that Cassandra is going to be a lesbian, considering we already have Sera filling that niche.

Now now, let's not be selfish! We have Sera to keep us company, Leliana to pine over and the other ladies to haunt our dreams if need be. Other people need someone to fill the void too.

My guess is that Cassandra will be straight and Vivienne a bisexual L.I. Or maybe that will be reversed and Cassandra will be bi and Vivienne straight. In either case, I'd be surprised if the party members weren't equally divided in a way that any gender/sexual preference combo has at least two potential options.

My gut tells me that Cass is straight and Viv is bi, but Bioware likes to defy expectations, so maybe it's the other way around. What I mean is that since Viv is Orlesian, it would be easy to assume that she would be bi. Orlesians are not known to be shy about that. But I agree that we'll probably get a couple of options per orientation. It wouldn't be fair otherwise. One thing is certain: hearts will be broken. Ours or the characters' (or both!) remains to be seen.
