Yup! But instead of getting stuck in your teeth, he stuck his teeth in you!

Ooooh! I remember that conversation again!

Once that dog bit her ankles or something and then kicked it into the distance.

"Oh, Bon-Bon was a terror. He would hide, you know, when he saw you coming. And then he would attack your ankles. Razor-sharp teeth in the ankles ... very painful. He attacked me once. Latched onto my leg. I thought it was a diseased rat and kicked! Bon-Bon flew across the room and over the banister. He survived, but he never came near me after that."

I do recall laughing raucously after this dialogue.

I really hope we see some of these Orlesian toy dogs btw. It would be a nice touch like the Pekingese in Jade Empire.

The casual way she says 'he survived' really makes that line.

It would remind me of my old head canon where Leliana bought some Orlesian poodle and Barkspawn attempted to mate with it.

...don't ask.

Did you know that Poodles actually originated in Germany?

Oh and Toy poodles weren't a  thing until the 18th century and the Brits made those. :P

Making me believe Poodles came from France all this time.

People you've conquered are exotic. People who've successfully rebelled are savages.

Not in Orlais, apparently. Maric oddly enough, is somewhat popular.

Leliana: Teyrn Loghain, you must have great stories about King Maric.

Loghain: Oh? Are you looking for a new slant on the ones they tell in Orlais?

Leliana: No, no! (Sigh) Does everything have to be about nationality with you? Why must every moment of life have to be a matter of politics? Do you think they do not admire Maric in Orlais? Because they do. There is nothing like a dashing rebel prince to capture the imagination, you know.

Loghain: Even when he rebels against you?

Leliana: Especially then. It makes him roguish. Much more romantic. And if he must face overwhelming numbers of Chevaliers with only a few untrained farmers? Then he's even more valiant.

Loghain: Leliana, this runs counter to all sense and accountability.

Leliana: People aren't sensible creatures all the time. And stories are accountable to no one. Have you never loved a tall tale, simply because it made your heart race?

Loghain: Hmph.

Leliana: You can "Hmph," all you like. You know I'm right.

Me too, and I spent most of my life in Germany.

I think its more of a thing that France wanted to claim them as their own sort of deal.

I'm pretty fond of poodles myself. They're really smart and super cute when groomed with lion cuts... But if Bioware was being accurate about it BonBon most likely wasn't a poodle... poodles are rarely mean spirited anyway.

As far as German breeds go, I'm partial to the Leonberger myself. Probably my favourite dog breed of all time.

He was like a mabari in a way... :S

How a dog is raised tends to influence its behavior. I can see the pampered pet of a noble lady becoming aggressive.

Oh easily. But breeds do tend to have personalities and poodles usually don't fall under that not to mention they were standard size water retrievers back in the day and weren't associated with royalty.

I imagine him to be a Bichon-Frise or Pekignese, something known to be a bit more territorial and popular among the French Courts.

BonBon totally had small dog syndrome though.

After Schmooples, Leliana is no longer allowed to name pets. The Maker wills it!

What if Leliana really is a reincarnation of Andraste and Schmooples is actually The Maker in disguise?

Let Alistair name it. Barkspawn remains the greatest dog name.

Then the maker is worth 20 silver apparantly, and that Idle dwarf is a prophet.

For some reason I can't stop picturing Schmooples whispering to the inquisitor at night to tempt them to put their staf in the burning bush nearby.

"Psst! Inquisitor! Put that wooden stick in the fire!"

"Oh my god! Its talking!"
