Yeah me too... as if they know how anyone should react after being tortured...

"This person, who I think I knew 10 years ago but probably didn't fully know, and has suffered through major loss and trauma the past decade, not to mention she was just freed from captivity and torture, doesn't seem at all like she was 10 years ago, and it's not right."

It makes no bloody sense to me. It's like people forget she's supposed to be a person with human emotions.

But... that's not even a realization. Anyone can commit atrocities against others, and there were a fair few mages who weren't possessed in Broken Circle either.

But in this case Leliana is still literally bearing scars from the experience.  She has just been badly traumatized.

Also that line "I want the world back" implies there's something even bigger on her mind.  Something involving magic (likely the Breach itself)  has hurt her deeply.

Torture, loss, and possibly the end of the world has a way of affecting you. Heck, even Varric still hasn't gotten over the Qunari attack on Kirkwall based on comments about his relationship with the Iron Bull.

Also sounds like he's not over the "interview at knifepoint" with Cassandra either

Not to mention the torturer's line 'you've got no one to protect now' heavily implies that the Divine died. She saw her as a friend. Poor Leliana.

There is that as well. Man, now I'm almost disappointed there didn't seem to be an option to hug Leliana when freeing her.

Also during the boss fight with Alexius he taunts, "Where are your assassins this time?" Since he refers to more than one assassin, it is is possible that Leliana tried to infilitrate Redcliffe with others who were killed. She may have lost friends at Redcliffe as well, or at least people under her command.

XD yeah my warden would chase my Quizzy all over the place. Especially since Quizzy sent Leli there. I don't think it'd end well for Quiz. XD

There's also her missing Warden, no longer there to kill evil exes.

What an arsehole for rubbing that in, torture dude.

And he poked his thumb in her eye when he grabbed her face. Jackass.

Err, I don't think you quite understand the larger picture here.

Mages are human.
Leliana knows how horrible humans can be.
Laliana knows how horrible mages can be.

Not to mention that we know she's gone up against mages while working as an agent for the Divine.

This specific encounter may change her attitude toward magic users, but it's not because she's learned something she didn't know already. It's because suffering physical and psychological trauma often makes you hostile/fearful/uncomfortable with things you associate with that trauma.

You got me tearful now over Leliana.

I think that's what we pay them for.

Hearing about something and having to experience it first hand are two different things.

Most of the citizens in Andrastian nations have no first hand experience with Tevinter. They either know it as that place that the Chantry preaches against or from old tales and legends about atrocities that magisters committed when the still ruled most of Thedas.

For Leliana these are no longer tales and Chantry semons. She experienced first hand what Tevinter is capable of. It also explains why Dorian would take such interest in her well being. He's aware of what she feels and thinks after this, and wants to show her that not every Tevinter mage is as corrupt as Alexius.

I should point out that it seemed to be implied that Leliana had been sent in to assassinate Alexius. While torture is still evil regardless, his motivation for doing so didn't come out of nowhere.

I've always wanted to tell an underling to assassinate someone and bring me their head as proof.

...I don't think Leliana would appreciate that though.

Considering what that demo implied Alexius may have done, or at least had a hand in, assassination is letting him off easy.

He seemed to feel like he'd failed to stop it more than anything; it seems highly likely that this scenario could be resolved without violence. Which I may try to do with Josephine.

I'm going to send Cullen, there is no discussion and diplomacy with a crazy man who tries to keep his son "alive" through necromancy.

I hope it can.

But more importantly, I'm eager to know all the options concerning this particular scenario: Was infiltration the only option? What if we sent, say, Cole in there instead of Leliana? What if we had a different party setup?

Needles to say, I look forward to exploring all the options that this particular scenario presents us with.

Helloooooooooooooooooooo, replay value! Not to mention that this is just one instance, imagine how many other opportunities to screw up we will have!

Leliana also expresses suprise at seeing the Inquisitor while being rescued.

She may have thought the Inquisitor was dead as well.
