I should point out that it seemed to be implied that Leliana had been sent in to assassinate Alexius. While torture is still evil regardless, his motivation for doing so didn't come out of nowhere.

In case this hasn't been mentioned yet, Elite Pinecone linked to a Cameron Lee interview in another thread. The relevant bit:

 

"[...] when you’re fighting with Alexius and Felix, not all the players are going to see that, because going into that area is the result of a branching choice in the game. So you may have picked another area and you wouldn’t be going into that castle at all, you’d be going somewhere else entirely."

 

So it looks like it's quite possible to avoid sending any adviser into danger here.

I think the Alexius' quest is optional. Don't know about Redcliffe/the hinterlands as a whole.

I'm not going to skip something just because Leliana might get hurt. She probably got hurt when those werewolves pinned her down and tore at her in DA:O, but I still sent her on ahead to flush out the next group.

It wasn't that bad.

In the Dalish questline where you had to solve the werewolf curse, you ended up in a temple with stealth werewolves. They started out invisible, would attack in packs, and had the pin-down attack that spiders have - no way to defend against it, you lose control of the character, and they get to ravage you.

Wynne and Morrigan couldn't survive it and my PC did more damage, so Leliana had to be bait.

Those werewolves were bad, but they still weren't as bad as that Queen Spider in the Deep Roads.

 

A jimmy gets rustled just thinking about it. Thank the Maker my Warden was durable for a Rogue.

Now that I think about it, I wonder how that worked out in game?

"Hey sweetie, let me help you up. After you passed out from massive blood loss, we were easily able to take out the rest of the pack. I'm running a *little low* on injury kits. I hope you don't mind, but we're going to have to wait awhile to fix that Crushed Arm and Damaged Skull. How many fingers am I hold up? No.. not four, but that's close! Anyways, Wynne says you're ready to go. Just run ahead to the next end of the next room - we'll be right behind you!"

Now that I think about it, that explains her behavior later in the dungeon.

All things considering, she must have a rather forgiving nature as this didn't harm our romance at all.

I hate the Deep Roads on principle. Spiders that leap from the shadows every five steps certainly didn't help.

Even more than she was before! I just hope her spirit isn't completely crushed in exchange for the new levels of badassery.

Can you blame her? They stuck her in the torture chamber! And I don't think she was being so much pro-circle as 'kill all mages' at that particular moment. Leli is sweet but when she gets mad... run. Fast.

Yeah it's more like "kill this Tevinter psycho that is keeping his son "alive" as a monster".

Watching characters get overwhelmed and shredded or chewed by dragons (well, the ones I like anyway, get chewed Alistair) always makes me die inside.

 

I ain't letting anything chew Leliana in DA:I, unless it's my returning warden.

 

Also, she was a total BAMF in the demo, I may have had my temperature rise.

The guide book for this thing is going to be like one of those pick your own adventure game books. If you choose option A, go to page 56, if you pick option B, go to page 67, etc. The choices you make seem to have more far reaching implications than in DAO.
