In the states a game can be super violent and get M (17+) ratings. It's once nudity get's involved then AO (18+) becomes a possibility. I have never seen an AO game in person.

We don't have an m17 rating here.

IIrc, they banned Mortal Kombat

they did but that was ages ago. You can get MK now since they brought in the 18+ rating.

Leliana isn't a delicate little flower herself, though. I'm sure this isn't her first rodeo. She's endured torture from her former life with Marjolaine. Methinks she'll be fine.

Either way it makes for a good story.

Yeah well...

I only installed the female part of that mod  B)

But that just makes the "walk through the fire naked" part of the Urn temple look silly.

You mean that one time she got betrayed by her love, arrested for crime she didnt commit, tortured and raped? Yeah, such a good story indeed. So fascinating seeing her crying lying on the ground...
Geez. Of course she can survive it. Does ot make it okay? No

No, it certainly doesn't. A lot of it come down to the parents. I'm amazed how ignorant some parents are about the stuff they get their kids. I remember a story on Not Always Right about a woman buying Princess Mononoke for her 5 year-old kid. Thankfully the cashier told her just what kind of movie she was getting. A Disney flick it is not!

well good on the cashier for doing that, but most would be more interested in making the sale.

It still hurts, you know?
It is still a shock, you know?
You still held a living being, struggling to get free, and cut a part of its body including not just flesh but also bones, you know?

Pfft, like I had that sort of comprehension when I was four.

But it's all worth it for underwear-less sex with Leliana*

*or just wait and install the mod before that scene

It invokes powerful feelings in the player, so yes, it is a good story.

It's the fridge horror potential that is worrying.

Who rapes someone and keeps their full armor on?  Sure it might have been implied but I didn't really get that impression at all the first time I played Leliana's song.

The blood on the floor between her legs was from her stab wound

As far as I know it was heavily implied or even proven by devs or codex

And people shouldnt feel okay about the story then. The story might be good, strong but these moments have to make people feel crushed, terrified, even sick and not willing to ever see it again

So you enjoy a person getting tortured because it makes you feel better?
...
Wow, thats some fucked up ****

I don't entirely disagree.

I find your reaction a bit shallow and hyperbolic, but I acknowledge that 'Leliana being hurt makes me feel emotional distress... which I find enjoyable' doesn't make sense. There's almost a perversity to it.

I could say that because I want to feel deeply, what matters is the emotional intensity, not whether it feels good or bad. I don't think that's true though. If we did see Leliana half-naked, brutally beaten and mutilated, my reaction would be far more intense... Does that mean I would enjoy that scene more?

No, not at all.

What is the line there? When does good emotional distress cross into 'BioWare, WTF are you doing?'

I wonder to what extent Leliana's popularity needs her suffering. If she were a cute, girly chantry sister who was once a bard, would that be enough? Or, does Marjoline using her, betraying her, and Leliana having to flee to Ferelden make the character more appealing?

So when people feel sadness, anger, shock or any other "negative" feeling from a certain scene in a video game, movie, book, tv show or the like, they are horrible people for enjoying said scene since it managed to touch them enough to evoke a strong response from them?

Careful with your implications there, sweetheart, I may take that as a personal attack. I actually rescue lizards and wildlife now, so whatever.

It's made pretty explicit when Raleigh says "Orlesian harlot, if you wanted any more of my men, you need only have asked!"

Easy to solve:  don't take men with you.

Honestly? Feeling sad is not enjoyment. If a scene makes you negative emotions you dont enjoy it
Such scenes are designed to make people feel bad, and naturally living beings prefer to avoid strong negative feelings
But if such scenes cause pleasure and satisfaction... its worrying

They dont enjoy it if they feel negative emotions. Its the opposite
