I find your reaction a bit shallow and hyperbolic, but I acknowledge that 'Leliana being hurt makes me feel emotional distress... which I find enjoyable' doesn't make sense. There's almost a perversity to it.
I could say that because I want to feel deeply, what matters is the emotional intensity, not whether it feels good or bad. I don't think that's true though. If we did see Leliana half-naked, brutally beaten and mutilated, my reaction would be far more intense... Does that mean I would enjoy that scene more?

I wonder to what extent Leliana's popularity needs her suffering. If she were a cute, girly chantry sister who was once a bard, would that be enough? Or, does Marjoline using her, betraying her, and Leliana having to flee to Ferelden make the character more appealing?
