Hardened Leliana lets her partner threaten and intimidate her. There aren't a lot of happy reasons why she'd put up with that.

Well, it was still labelled as an 'active relationship' in one of Darrah's tweets. So I'd say Leliana is still holding out for the Warden if romanced, even though he/she is currently AWOL.
So yes, no matter what you do, Leliana is without the Warden.
Why does there need to be a reason? Perhaps it's simply "she's not interested?"
I would have thought that she's simply not interested was a reason (probably a pretty good one when you think about it)

I've never been mean or rude to Leli with my canon Warden.
Not intentionally, at least. That 'the Blight is the Maker's punishment. Will you defy him?' line. I was curious... She's got a hair trigger, that one. Not surprising considering she's a fiery redhead, but... ouch.
In my case, my Warden refused her initial request to join in the tavern because it all sounded like silly human nonsense to her, and got kinda pissed off and snapped at her a bit during her conversation about elves.
Ends up she actually appreciated the latter though, so I guess she never really was mean beyond their first encounter. To the point of offense, anywho.
To be fair, Snook, Leliana does speak a lot of nonsense in DAO. All that talk about shoes...

My Warden liked shoes too though - which is kind of confusing now seeing as she was Dalish and we've now discovered that they don't wear shoes at all. Zounds.

...on that note, I've always had a headcanon that I Am The One is actually Leliana's ballad that some of the epilogues speak of her putting together after the events of DA:O.

Leliana is better off alone than to be in any type of abusive relationship I feel. I could never will myself to be mean towards her, it's like kicking a puppy, a special musical puppy.
